does anyone know what is goin on with ucla in terms of interview invites. have they sent out a lot of invites yet or are they still early in their invite season?

I submitted 2* 9/14 (letters were in before that) and have yet to hear back

🙁

Submited secondary 9/09/07 and just received an interview today!!

Complete: 08/13/2007
Interview: 10/11/2007

I'm sure it'll come... just be patient! :luck:

Hey, Super Congrats on the UCLA interview. Did you find out by email or status page?

Also, have you received/gone to any other UC interviews?

i got a ucla invite...but it came via email. It asks for dates that you're available/unavailable, and so i'm waiting for a date to be confirmed

hey RPedigo
did they request your transcripts at this time?

bruin

i was so dissapointed ... i interviewed in teh past week ... and seriously it was the worst interview i have been to ...

basically ... its an interview and lunch ... THATS it ... you learn nothing about the school, cirriculum etc ... there is no oreintation no handouts no nothing .

ucla is one of my top choices if not my top choice .... i cant believe it was such a dissapointment .... luckily i know its a great school ... thats the only thing that still makes me want to go

I'm confused; your MDapps says you just got the invite 5 days ago.

Yeah, I sent out my transcript to them and my picture as well already.

Ack - I submitted 9/3.

That makes me feel better!

Many congratulations to you both!!!

Thanks 🙂

I was at brewco today (westwood brewing company for those of you who don't know) hanging out with some med students, and an mstp applicant was there with her host checking it out. She was cute too.

My molecular biology professor mentioned that he was starting to interview MD/PhD students today I think (Im an undergrad at UCLA) ...

Submitted: 9/28.
LORs Received: 9/27
Interview Offered: 10/18

Now if only the would accept me! Good luck guys!

When are you supposed to send the transcript? After interview is granted?

Hey guys, I'm an MS3 at UCLA and former UCLA undergrad. I'm willing to field any questions about the school.

kuhlguy, I agree with you. The interview day is terrible --- the worst one I attended, by far. I left feeling very unimpressed with the school. However, if you are accepted and attend the second-look weekend, the school does a spectacular job. 🙂 Don't let UCLA's interview day color your impression of the school.

SO if we go to UCLA, can we just drop off the picture at the admission office? It's kind of stupid to mail it when I can just walk over there and hand it to them....

does someone have the initial letter that appears telling you that you've been invited to interview? I don't have that anymore, and so the only thing i thought we needed to do was to submit transcripts....

was a photo required as well?

thanks

dammmit! give me an invite UCLA!!!!! i would literally trade in 5 of my invites (including 2 UCs) to have one of your stupid, horribly planned, non-tour, non-curriculum info INTERVIEWS!

jus gimme one dammit!

phew, thats the thoughts that go through my head. i'm actually much calmer on the outside.

I called today and got the "we have 5,000 files to review and we just started interviewing, you still have plenty of opportunity" line. Why can't schools be more up front about your status and whether it's been reviewed. Why the secrecy

If you guys have any questions about UCLA that you didn't get answered at the interview, please feel free to contact me or UCLAstudent. UCLA is by far the best place to study medicine. Awesome curriculum, student life, the new state of the art Reagan Hospital, Los Angeles--you can't ask for more. I'll be more than happy to answer any questions.

hey guys...sorry to nag...but was a photo requested in the interview invite letter that popped up on the status page?

pls. let me know
thanks

the only good thing about UCLA: A LOT of cute KOREAN girls

Other than that, UC Davis Med >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> UCLA Med

I would like to know on what basis people are making the statement that UCLA is a great school? No, I'm not here to diss the school (I'm a Bruin myself, after all). UCLA was definitely a top choice before, but the strange thing is, the more 4th year UCLA med students I've talked to, the more UCLA doctors I've talked to, the less appealing UCLA seems to me. A lot of my professors are telling me to head over to USC or Irvine. Some doctors that I have met (not UCLA, but they trained with UCLA med students when they were residents) told me that UCLA didn't prepare the med students well enough for residency. So, could anybody share something good about my school, so we can have more Bruin love😍

What exactly do you mean by Bruin Love?

Bruin love=UCLA love

Search SDN for threads from last year comparing UCLA and UCSF. There is plenty of good info there. Someone who got into both schools was trying to decide where to go...

UCLA didn't prepare the med students well enough for residency.
Pass/Fail schools don't produce quality doctors. Plus, UCLA don't produce good CLINICIANS, only outstansing researchers!

UCLA has great med students, and great doctors work there. Their med school has so many opportunities for med students to get clinical experience, to serve at risk populations, etc. And the med students are fun--they don't just study all day (some of them do) but most of them have social lives.

This makes no sense. Wow, those poor, unfortunate people who go to P/F schools like UCLA. Glad to hear I'm destined for a life of mediocrity.

Couldn't agree with you more. I'm so happy with my decision to attend UCLA! The opportunities are endless. One of the selling points for me was that it is TRULY pass/fail school --- none of that high pass/intermediate pass/low pass stuff. This fosters a friendly, cooperative environment. My classmates all get along very well! We study together, hang out together, volunteer at health fairs together ... etc. Also, the faculty members are AMAZING. As for clinical skills, you start getting exposure in the first block of MS1! You'll learn to take histories on standardized patients and how to do a complete physical exam throughout first year. You'll also be assigned a preceptor for the year --- on your preceptor days, you'll get to interview and examine real patients, practice presenting the patient to your preceptor (a good skill to master for MS3), and be mentored. You can also shadow in basically any specialty at UCLA to your heart's content. In my first year, I shadowed in endocrinology, medical genetics, obstetrics, family practice, and the PICU. There are also TONS of opportunities to work with the underserved, especially since it's LA --- the student-run homeless clinic is every week and there are several health fairs throughout the year for which you can volunteer. Many of my classmates have gone on medical mission trips abroad, as well.

Oh, another thing that often gets overlooked --- it's a bonus that UCLA is affiliated with an undergrad school! It makes the campus much more lively and affords you many more social opportunities. You can be involved in IM sports (in fact, you can form med school IM sports teams and compete with the undergrads), attend concerts/theater at UCLA (which is excellent), go to Bruin football and basketball games, use the Wooden center (the school's gym), etc.

Anyway, hopefully this wasn't too much rambling. I'm post-call and am probably not thinking clearly. Please let me know if you have any questions. I love my school and feel so fortunate to be learning from the best of the best! 😍

I just want to echo this sentiment. Everything UCLAstudent is saying is absolutely true. As far as clinical, there are programs in place where clinical experiences abound pretty much every Wednesday and Saturday and some Tuesdays in your first year ranging from student-run homeless clinics (and when I mean student-run I mean student-run) and the nationally acclaimed Mobile Clinic every Wednesday. Plus if I am not mistaken UCSF is also a P/F school in first two years just like UCLA so for those who think P/F is bad I guess you shouldnt apply to 2 of the top med schools in the country.

Yeah, all we need now are some interviews....

silverlining if i remember you were on the waitlist last cycle. I hope you go far beyond that this year. You deserve it!!!

I appreciate the kind wishes, but I'm a first-time applicant 🙂

okay, im about to sound very neurotic.

I was complete 7/30, and still have not recieved an interview invite. Does anyone know if this means they passed me up on the first review of my app??

Yes, you need to send in a photo as well as your transcripts.

siliverlining maybe i remember your name for proofing your ps then. sorry.

no problem. I hope you get an interview. UCLA is an excellent place to learn medicine. Once again, any questions about UCLA, the med school, Los Angeles, etc. feel free to pm me. I answer your questions with passion. Haha.

best medical school ever. my quality of life, extremely high, classmates are amazing, faculty is absurd, 3rd best hospital in the US, worlds most advanced hospital about to open, affiliated with numerous hosptials for rotations, endless oppurtunities for fun, research, shadowing, volunteering and learning. we are spoiled. go bruins

Anyone hear anything from them recently?

An "interview" row on the table for the UCLA status check was recently added. Not sure if its anything significant.

i had to call in to clarify something about my letters today and was told that my file had been taken out of the office--aka it was in the hands of the reviewers --and that i should expect a verdict in 1-6 weeks. my secondary was complete mid oct...

hope that helps?!
