ucla interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i was complete at ucla in mid october and had to call in last week to clear up a potential LOR mishap and was told that my application had been taken out of the office--aka being reviewed--and that i would hear back within 1-6 weeks...

donno if that helps--but it might provide some frame of reference--especially for later applicants like me =)

can someone who knows whats going on right now at ucla tell me if i'm right. i believe that my app was rejected for interview when it was reviewed by the committee.

i submitted pretty early (complete by the end of july) and I have not recieved an invite yet. I've called ucla a couple times and they keep telling me that my app is currently away with the committee and being reviewed... but they've been saying this for over a month now. I'm thinking the committee does have it and actually has reviewed me by now and since I dont have a interview status change, then they must have rejected me for interview right? What confuses me is that the staff has looked me up a few times with my AMCAS ID and their system shows no response for me. It jus shows that I'm still away with the committee. This is confusing. I guess I just wanna know what the response to my app was. Does anyone know if I'm right in my assumption or does anyone have some insight?

sorry, im not usually neurotic, its just that ucla is my #1 choice. thanks.

With stats like yours, it's hard to think of a good reason why you wouldn't get interview invitations so fast. Good job on your MCAT! 🙂

Thanks! I really appreciate it. Best of luck on your application cycle 🙂

Often times, if you are borderline, they'll interview other candidates first and then extend an interview out to the borderline candidates if there are spots left. That's why if two people are complete on, say, November 21st someone might get an interview invitation two days later, and the other one might receive theirs three months later. Just hold out-- there are quite a few more invites left for UCLA to give out. It probably has nothing to do with you, just how the admissions committee thinks you'll fit in specifically at UCLA. Good luck!

Perhaps this is the case with me - I've been complete since September 3. I've called and asked if waiting this long is normal, and they said yes. I haven't had them check to see whether or not my file has been reviewed.

That's good, 'cause I'm totally fitting that scenario you just gave. Please don't laugh. :/

Finally, an invitation from a CA school! Complete 7/30, invite 11/29. A total of 4 months of waiting. Good luck to those who are also waiting.

finally a CA school!, i was complete at UCLA 9/7/07, and got the invite a couple days ago 12/20/07. have faith guys, it will come!

on a second note, is the transcript sent to the admissions office, and is it supposed to be official? and earlier in this thread someone said to send a picture but i cant find anything in the interview invite that says send a picture....

Pretty sure they need to be official, and my letter (from the status page) also said to send in a picture.
I heard they wont send final decisions until they have received transcripts

Why does the interview invite letter disappear after you submit your available dates? I find this highly annoying. I'm one of those obsessive people who like to read letters over and over, just in case she missed something....

Would anyone mind posting what the interview invitation said? I don't remember if I was supposed to send the transcript+picture to the office or if I can just bring them with me to the interview. 🙁

Hope this helps:

We are pleased to inform you that the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA Selection Committee after reviewing your impressive credentials and accomplishments would like to invite you for an interview. The interview is an important and integral part of our selection process. It will afford us an opportunity to learn more about you and your ability to be part of the class of 2012. Interviews are conducted by a faculty member of the Admissions Committee and, if possible, a student member. The interview is but one critical part of the evaluation. Decisions on admission are made by the Admissions Committee after full review of all information submitted on the applicant.
The day of your visit, you will have an interview, a tour of the school, lunch with one of our medical students and opportunities to hear about the school and meet with students and some of our faculty. You will need to plan to be with us for at least half the day. Interviews are conducted Monday through Friday.
Please complete the interview request form indicating your availability. Once we have established a mutually acceptable date and time, we will be unable to reschedule. In addition, please send us a photograph and your school transcripts as soon as possible. Once we have scheduled your interview, we will send you a confirmation email along with directions to UCLA as well as information regarding accommodations and parking. The email address we have on file for you is _______ If this is incorrect, please update your contact information now before you proceed with completing this form at
Sincerely,

Neil H. Parker, M.D.
Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs

I am obsessive about reading letters over and over, so I printed this AND saved an electronic copy 😎

yes ladydoc! you were very smart to do this!! and it is extremely helpful---

i just realized that i will be unavailable for a date that i didnt list when i sent back that e-form--when they say they are unable to schedule once a mutually accepted date has been made does that mean once they send back a date?? is there any way to get back in touch with admissions to notify them of my unavailability?

that would just suck too much if they picked the one day i couldnt make it...and yes im prob being a lil paranoid..but any info will help! thanks!

I would contact them before they get back to you on a date. It took them about 9 days to get back to me after I sent in my availability. Good:luck:!

Sweet Jesus, mother of God!!!!😱

Congrats! When is the earliest you can schedule your interview for? Did you send a letter of interest or something of that nature?

I interviewed mid-November....do you guys know how long it takes to hear back?
I'm guessing 2 months??

Thanks for the congrats! I just submitted the request form today so not sure when the earliest date is. I'm hoping there's something open before March though. And yeah, I did send them a letter of interest, but it was a while ago so I just assumed they didn't care haha :hardy:

BTW, does anyone know how many interviewees they accept (both right away and off the waitlist)?

Hey guys. For those of you who've already interviewed, can you bring your sealed official transcript and a picture directly to the interview or do you have to send them in? It seems like they'll go to the same place anyway.

Also, for anyone who drove, which parking lot did you use?

Thanks!

You can use one of the following five parking lots: 6, 8, 9, hospital parking, or the parking lot right across from Young Hall/Chemistry building (don't remember if it's 2 or 3). They are all very close to med school. Hospital parking is probably the closest.

i received my interview invite for ucla on 12/21 but still havent been scheduled for an interview =( ..i finally called today--i think at the suggestion of wednesdaysarmy and was told that because many faculty were away for the holidays they havent submitted their dates and so the admin will get back to me asap....

anyone else have luck scheduling around this time??

I also got the invite on 12/21 and yet to hear from them. I want to know soon so I can plan my trip to LA!

hey does anyone know how many people get into UCLA post-interview? can't find the info in MSAR and i don't have a US news subscription...

hey! i cancelled a bunch of upcoming interviews so called the office to update them on my availability and was able to schedule an interview on the phone for early feb (kinda a ways out from our invite on 12/21) but at least it got scheduled =)

glucK

I've been complete since August and randomly got an invite from them today. Is the best way to schedule an interview by phone? Is early Feb. the first they have available? The interview letter doesn't give that much info.

About 300. A former student/adcom member told me this.

Hmm i think they interview around 700...can someone confirm this?

does anyone know when their interview season ends?

Admissions site also says they interview through April. I know that they still make decisions on interviewed candidates through mid-April, so that makes sense.

thanks!

I'm pretty sure you can bring your pic...
as for the transcript, i wouldn't risk it since schools prefer these things to come directly from the undergrad institution

parking lot--i found the hospital parking structure easiest. it was around $8, which is cheap when you compare it to the application process expenses so far haha
