UCLA letters sent out--Check Status Page

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
bummmmpppppppp

anyone else super nervous about what the coming days may or may not bring us?

P.S. sorry i always break the rules and don't just "bump"

yup...pretty nervous. but i only interviewed a month ago so i am worried i might miss out on this round...some of you guys have been waiting forever.

are they supposedly sending stuff tomorrow?
I REALLY hope it does not follow last years trend. I am super nervous and would give *almost* anything to get in here!
😱

Well, if I understand correctly, in the last and only time UCLA sent out letters, they did not fill up their seats (even though the all letters were acceptances). So by AAMC rules, I suspect they have to send out at least a bare minimum of acceptances this round to fill up their seats. So there is hope that one of those few could have your name on it. :luck:

so my neurotic self read through most of last year's thread about the same topic and it seems that although they thought that UCLA had to fill the class up as well by the "deadline" the second batch of letters sent out 3/21/07 was actually all unranked waitlist spots, and the 3/22/07 batch of letters was mixed rejections and acceptances (but the first batch seemed to be all acceptances). but i think the ones sent out 4/9/07 and after had more acceptances. that again is from the small population of SDN frequenters, and may not be a true reflection of what will happen in the coming weeks; there is also the possibility that this year may be different. but i just dont want to be miscontrued or have my hopes up that the next batch will have acceptances for the reason they "have" to fill up their minimum based on AAMC. im starting to feel like i hope im not in this potential batch coming out march 15-ish. 🙁

Do you guys think the April decisions are mainly people that interviewed late? Do they really not tell some of the people that interviewed in the fall their final decision until April?! How would you go to second look if they told you so late? Is there any AAMC rule that schools have to give everyone decisions by?

Well thanks for sparking the neurotic side of me. I just looked at the UCLA thread from 2 years ago and saw this trend:
3/3 --> waitlist/unranked
3/7 --> waitlist/hold (supposedly aka rejection?)
3/13 --> at least 1 acceptance (didn't look beyond that)

I wouldn't be surprised if it stuck with the trend and that this upcoming batch will be bad news. My reasoning is mainly because it buys them time to gather a few more solid acceptances, and then the april group has more interviews to pull from and gauge solid acceptances. Honestly, they should tell us on the phone that we won't know until April 30th or something and surprise us with earlier news. Don't they know that we can't control our feelings? (even though doctors should be able to...)

It's good to know I'm not alone! Talk to you all tomorrow as we fight the suspense.

P.S. Zephyr--I didn't look at the people who got April acceptances (either a year ago or 2 years). Maybe someone wants to look, otherwise it'll be a good distraction for days to come. 🙂

when i looked at 2007, it seemed that there was a lot of april and may acceptances, and that of those people there was mixed population of people that interviewed both before december as well as after.

My neurotic side just got sparked now. 😳
I am thinking its gotta be mixed...they have only sent 1 batch of post-interview news this season, and 2 years ago, by now they had sent multiple batches. This could just be my overly optimistic side taking over though.

Good luck and hopefully we get status changes tomorrow with good news to follow!:luck:

That's so annoying that they take so long to tell people. Their second look is April 18, so a bunch of people just don't get to go. That's so sucky 🙁

I don't know if decisions will be released on March 15th (or around then). I called UCLA's admissions office today and the man who answered said he doesn't know why people think decisions will be released on that date. He implied that decisions won't be released around that date. Maybe he only mans the phones and actually doesn't know...

On another note, he also mentioned that since each application has to go through three committees, it can take a while. If you interviewed earlier and didn't hear back from UCLA during the first round of acceptances, it's possible that your application didn't go through all three yet.

This doesn't surprise me. The pattern for me with UCLA has thus far invariably been:

1.) me getting excited that some date for decisions being sent that someone on SDN was told over the phone by the admissions office is approaching.
2.) UCLA not sending my decision (or anyone else's for that matter) on that date.
3.) me getting angry/disappointed.

I am personally not expecting anything to be sent tomorrow.

I forgot to add that I had interviewed in mid-February. The person I spoke with said my application was with the committee, no decision had been made yet (not a hold) and I will hear by late March. Hope that time frame helps people! :luck:

A bit confused. I was under the impression that all schools have to notify/ or at least notify enough ppl to fill their seats by March 30th? Does UCLA notify ppl in April? ( not including ppl off of waitlist etc)

anyone planning on calling today? i was thinking about it, maybe under the guise of "did you get my loi? oh yeah and when can i expect to hear something?"

so might it be safe to assume that this year they have grouped these three batches into one? so waitlists, rejections AND acceptances will be sent?

Anyone else notice the new accepted student checklist links on the bottom of the UCLA admissions homepage today? The links for the UCLA and DREW students are active while the UCR and UCLA PRIME are "coming soon." If you try the link, it just takes you to the status check page, but if those links are new, perhaps they are getting ready a bit for more acceptances? Just my hopeful speculation that the silence I've had for over 3 months post interview may soon be over. :luck: to everyone waiting!

hey all,

called yesterday and i can pretty much echo what the other posters have been saying. the lady was very nice about the "status check" but said that today wasn't anything special and that they will be mailing out all decisions throughout the end of the cycle, depending on when a decision is reached on your file.

she did say "all decisions" but i wanted to probe further and asked if there were still acceptances to give out and she said there were, but then i think she was getting annoyed so i just dropped it lol.

anyone else call today/this week?

i called today, all they told me was that my file is out with committee, so even if decisions are mailed today, i doubt i will be included. here's to more waiting.

You know, somehow I just do not believe that decision letters are sent out throughout the cycle with no specific dates of release, when it seems like they're in batches. I favor the idea of a "special day" when statuses are changed and letters are mailed (same day as status change or within a few days). And I hope that day comes again very soon!

Goodluck everyone.

Unfortunately, I got the same response. I think the people answering the phones need to pick a story and stick with it. Why do they keep giving us different answers about when letters will be sent? And why is the pattern so different from the previous years? It's like they got really lazy and decided sending decisions once a week is far too taxing, so once a month it is, if that. Wow, not bitter at all... 😎

Could somebody give me the number for the admissions office? I can't find it on their website...

i totally hear you...their responses should at least be consistent.

if anyone gets a status change today, please let us all know.

and :luck: to everyone waiting! i hope we can all be :biglove:BRUINS 😍 next year

Amen. Seriously, this inconsistent, disorganized UCLA process is really turning me off. However, that being said I'd still go in a heartbeat if I got in :meanie:

As said before, I called just a while ago and they told me the samething about my file being in committee and expecting a response in the next 1-2 weeks. So I'm not sure what that indicates at all but I'm hoping I get a response soon, whether good or bad.

Good Luck to everyone!

I got the same response 2.5 weeks ago! So tired of waiting. Interviewed in Nov.

Seriously, I don't understand why they can't tell us exactly what's going on. Either they are totally clueless of the admissions decision process timeline or they are just f-ing with all of us, which is not a good idea since we're all neurotic to begin with in the first place.

UCLA!!! WHERE ART THOU!?

Bruincat, are you a UCLA student? Maybe you can gather up some other DGSOM applicants at UCLA, storm the admissions office and demand some answers! 😀

Lol. Actually I'm not but I'm definitely been a Bruin in spirit since as early as I can remember. However, if you do storm the admissions office, I'll be with you in spirit!

how come this thread doesn't have the "stars" like some other threads do?

im a ucla student, ill storm with you! i kind of wanted to call them, but i dont know now...it seems they are geting annoying at all of us? eh, ill wait until monday.

okay, so i gave in and called right now. the conversation went something like this:
M: hi, i was just calling to find out about my application, my amcas is this, do you know if a decision had been made on my file?
A: when did you interview?
M: in January
A: alright let me pull up your file and give you an idea if your application has finished going through committees. yes, you should be getting something nextweek.

😱😕:scared:
dang, i hope this isnt that batch of rejections!!!!!

so might it be safe to assume that this year they have grouped these three batches into one? so waitlists, rejections AND acceptances will be sent?

I realllllllyyyyyy want to agree, but I'm still doubting it.

Xerxes--you win haha. Looks like some info next week, but even then it won't be for everyone.

Look at all this action today! and 4* stars. We deserve acceptances given all this involvement. 😉

aaaand thank you to all who called today. My proposal: call, give them a made-up amcas ID, and see if you still get a "1-2 weeks" comment. well, j/k, I doubt they're that bad hah

I called: December interviewee here.

THey said I am STILL out to committee, and I should hear in 1-2 weeks.

Just FYI- I called three times before, since mid-January and have been told I am out to commitee and should hear in 1-2 weeks. Not sure if this means I am passed up, or my committee is slow.

I am still confused, does that mean there are multiple committees and some are slower than others? And do our interviewers really need to be there?

luck to all!:luck::luck:

yikes...at this rate, i probably won't get a decision until july!

oopmaloompa: did your status page change today?

oh well, on the bright side, at least this thread has some stars now. let's get it up to 5 stars everyone!

:luck: to all!

😍GO BRUINS 😍

no, no status change. so maybe she lied to me about getting something next week? how crappy. either way, a decision has been made for sure, so i guess its out of my hands? i really need to stop checking this thread like every 5 minutes!😛 good luck to you neurofreak!

i think we're being too hard on the admissions office. Once a file is in committee, how soon a decision will be reached isnt really up to them but the committee members. As far as i know ucla doesnt provide the committees with a deadline as to how soon they have to come to a decision on each file. So you cant really blame them for giving vague responses since they really have no idea, except what they "think" is the time frame for a committee to come to a decision. But knowing how busy those doctors at ucla are, especially now that they're getting ready to move in to the new hospital, its perfectly normal for them to lag a little bit. Picking incoming med students shouldnt be their top priority anyway.

you make very good points. I'm sure the majority of us will agree that they were very kind at the interview and, compared to other schools, do answer the phone often, etc.

I think what's the most frustrating is that we would expect that when it's March, they would have a set agenda for the next month or at least weeks and be able to give us a definitive date. But, you remind me that there are a lot of people involved in the decision-making process, most of whom reasonably have us as a low priority. So, in the end, it doesn't matter what day we find out so long as it's before the end of April (beyond that makes me cringe haha). I already know that I'll be ready to pounce and stand by the mailbox when the day comes, and that will trump any other responsibilities I would have that day.

I don't know how those of you feel after repeatedly being given such vague info. Try doing what I do--don't call for a status check, just call for general info. It adds to the suspense but there's less risk of disappointment.

By the way, I am aware that it's Friday night and I'm posting. That's because I'm "studying" while you're all enjoy the evening! There. I admit it.

bumppp

lets keep this thread alive throughout the weekend

I really want UCLA, I hope they want me back.

Im going to try and stop thinking about it, and I have promised myself I will only check my status page once a day. =)

😳

Sucks that UCLA plays hard to get. Soon a sweet load of acceptances will flow out.

Good luck to everyone!

That's so sweet of you. =)
Even though UCLA is taking their sweet time, I still love them. Hopefully we both have happy letters in the coming weeks!
