UCLA letters sent out--Check Status Page

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
just called the admissions office...they say my application is currently 'out with the committee,' and then I should hear 'within a week.' If I interviewed all the way back in November, is it really possible that they still haven't made a decision on me, or are they just saying that so they can wait til later to send my wl/rejection? UCLA, you are driving me crazy!!

i just called as well. they said my application is out with the committee, and i should receive a letter within 1-2 weeks. She said the admissions committee is running behind schedule. This is insane! i interviewed 4 months ago, currently living on the east coast, so the letter is going to take even longer getting here!

ahh...sudden panic. 😱 i was just thinking about how pleasant my day at ucla was and how it would be nice to hear something soon. anyone who was accepted know which committe they interviewed for?

how is possible to know which committee you're in?

maybe those of us that interviewed in november and haven't heard back are in the same committee? anyone have a white, female, general surgeon (graduate of UCLA SOM) interview them?

This is what they told me Friday--and now I have a status change. Hopefully you find out soon. Im utterly confused by the UCLA admissions process and have learned what patience really means...😳

yeah, i called on friday, and they also told me my file was with the committee, and it would be about a week before it was back in the office. seriously...probably good news for all who have status changes today. let us know when the mail comes tomorrow!

My status page says "decision letter sent 3/14"... It should be in my mail within the next hour or so... Being at work is KILLING me right now!!!!

EEEEEESH!

Hey everyone, I was interviewed in late feb, and I was told by a few of the student tour guides that the class was only 1/6th of the way full. I thought that meant my chances were good, but looking over these messages it seems that it's just taking admissions a while to process things. Do you think my chances of getting in are slim?

That is what mine says too, and they for sure sent mine on Friday! I am pretty sure, that means that they sent yours on Friday too and it should be there today!!! Let us know!

I'm beginning to think it doesn't even matter when you interview anymore, especially when you've got people who have been waiting since November, while people who interviewed in March get in a week later, like this case:

To answer people's questions:
The date on my letter was March 14, I interviewed March 7, I'm in-state (LA area), and no status change.

gahhhh, no status page change for me...and they said i should get it this week! im a nervous wreck waiting through this whole process, and its finals week too!

Taking a break from freaking out to reply -

FWIW, I interviewed late Feb.

Back to freaking out until I get home!!!!!! EEEEEEESHHHHH!!!

Haha. Now that's discipline. If I were you, I'd drop whatever I was doing and drive home to greet the mailman.

is there anyone who got an acceptance letter who still hasn't gotten a status page?

also, has UCLA even sent out ANY rejections/waiting lists yet? that seems strange, especially since it's almost the end of march.

just called again, and confirmed that my file already has a decision, and that i should get a letter this week. i asked and they said acceptances, waitlists, and rejections are going out all throughout this week and the next. do you think if i asked over the phone they would tell me the decision?

my interviewer told me which one i was in. apparently each one goes by a certain letter. i was interviewed by a family practice physician...

Congratulations!
Is the online change dated the 14th or today?

Thanks, I hope we'll be classmates 🙂.

My online status change is dated the 14th. The letter (normal sized envelope, not a large packet or anything) was also postmarked on the 14th.

no status change for me either. I called and should be hearing by the end of March too. :scared:

Does anyone know more about there being different committees? My guess is that there's a "for sure" committee, a "yeah they could be docs" committee, and a "backup" committee....those with acceptances so far being part of the "for sure" committee. This sounds VERY WEIRD so any other thoughts are for sure welcome.

Btw, where are you ohsekw? Either your work owns you, you're already at a bar, or you're chilling on a couch with ice cream. We're rooting for the second option...unless ice cream is a good way to celebrate! :luck:

no status change here either and I interviewed in mid December. I'm starting to get nervous that Im rejected... I hope I hear soon!!! My interviewer was an older neurologist and wrote down every single word I said, meaning if I spoke faster than he could write, he made me slow down, which was really unnatural and so I have no idea if my interview went well or not. Anyone else have the same interviewer? Ahhh... Im praying to David Geffen tonight!

I interviewed with an older neurologist as well, although I don't remember anything about him trying to write down every single word I said. I too have no idea if the interview went well or not...tried as I might, it never really turned into a conversation, it was basically him firing off questions from that questionnaire thingy he seemed to have. Maybe we had the same interviewer...did your guy go to UCLA for med school in the 50s?

I had that same interviewer 2 weeks ago. It was so difficult! He went through their questionnaire question by question and made me answer everyone while he wrote down word for word. He also made me state over and over again that I was positive I wanted to be a doctor and that nothing could change my mind. It was the oddest interview I've ever had. God I hope it went well though! Please let me know if anybody interviewed with this guy AND got accepted! I hope he doesn't hurt my chances of getting in!

My student tour/lunch guy mentioned that there is a 'disadvantaged committee'... but the whole good/bad/ugly committee sounds a bit strange. How would one committee be able to compare the 'iffy' students to the students they already accepted?

Congratulations again to all of you who were recently accepted!!! If you are choosing between schools and have any questions, do not hesitate to PM me so that I can tell you about the wonderful DGSOM at UCLA.

i had an older interviewer as well-- i don't remember if he was a neuorologist. but he did use that questionnaire, spoke slowly, and wrote everything i said down. those were not his initials. anyway, mid-nov interview, still no word. i'm expecting a rejection but maybe the committee just hasn't met yet!

Yes, I had him, but he seemed like a really nice laid-back guy.
No decision as of yet from DGSOM at UCLA directly, but I'm holding an acceptance to the UCR/UCLA Thomas Haider program which gives me the clinicals at the DGSOM and also the same degree.

ahhh, this is nerve wrecking.

did anyone get interviewed by an asian dermatologist? i forget her name but i know she was an md/phd and super nice? anyoneeeee?

I think the theory was that if we all had the same interviewer, all decisions for us should come out at the same time since they would be in the same subcommittee.

ah, yes.

anyone else have "j.k" as their interviewer besides me and s3park?

anyone think they might group applicants by their undergrad school to have a better way to compare interviewees? it would make it much easier to compare various factors like GPA, extracurricular opportunities, etc.

sorry for the multiple posts

i had nn as my interviewer! I interviewed waaaaay back in early nov... It's kind of funny because my friend had him, too. I don't think he liked him much as an interviewer.. he was waitlisted until June/July...

haha let's all compare when decisions come out!

nope and nope. 👎

i said in a recent update letter that a letter of rec from my pi is coming soon in the mail. maybe they're holding off on a decision before it comes? i kinda regret saying that because i just want to know right now!! GAH

ah, yes.

I did 🙂

I interviewed fairly recently though, so I haven't heard anything. I too, am very hopeful.

Congrats! Now go quit your day job 😛

nawla18--thanks for your input. Given recent posts, interviewers must have something to do with it. Aside from that, it's quite a mystery!

looks like jk's crew is still out. 3 for 3

yep...don't know how much this would help, but creating a list of the different interviewers might provide us with some insight into UCLA's mysterious process. Feel free to add your name to the list with the initials of your interviewer. This might also help calm some of us who haven't heard anything yet.

for those of you that have already gotten acceptance, congrats! feel free to also add your name so we can see which subcommittees have already met.

Interviewer: J.K.
neurofreak, interviewed early feb, no status change

Interviewed mid Feb by pediatric nephrologist. Accepted by mail (small envelope) yesterday.

Congrats to everyone who received acceptances yesterday! Nov interviewee here, so probably assumed wl/rej. Does anyone know how many people ucla takes off the waitlist? The lady i spoke with in the office yesterday mentioned that they only extend 121 offers initially (the class size), and don't offer more acceptances than spots like most schools do.

Good luck to everyone waiting for letters.

Was there a status change for you? I was interviewed by the same lady mid-jan.

interviewer: n.n. - older neurologist
interviewed late november

Im starting to freak out a little: did anyone else get a status change yesterday? I hope im not the first rejection/WL....

😳

Don't worry LadyDoc, if anything I'm going to be the first R/WL, my stats aren't as stellar as all of you people so far and I'm definitely an over-represented minority.

As to the rest of you, my interviewer was also N.N., an older, jewish neurologist who I found to be quite affable and nice. However, he did scribble down everything I said and at times would ask me to stop and repeat myself.

It seems like we all are still under review in his committee so here's to hoping we get decisions by this week.

Thanks, blargh and adoredoctor. I like to refer to the day job as the "S___ O___ Medical Scholarship" (named after yours truly). It is the only non-loan source of funding I am going to get!

Doesn't sound like anyone else has had my interviewer - initials EF.

congrats ohsekw! are you going to recruitment day?
