UCLA math requirements

Hi, does anyone know anything about the mathematics requirement for UCLA. It looks like they want statistics and calculus.
Well, I have calculus, linear algebra and advanced integral and differential equations, which are definetly more advanced than statistics. Do I still have to take that statistics class?
Does anyone know anything about this?

Yes you have to take statistics......take it at the JC level...much easier and still applicable.
Luckily, when I went to UCLA, I took it at SMC and it worked out great!

As far as I know, at least one quarter/semester of statistics is REQUIRED. There may be chance to waive this requirement, but I guess you'll just have to call them up about it.

Many intro statistics classes are really easy, and I think you will be able to incorporate one of them into your course list for this coming school year.

I actually called about this a few weeks back.

The lady I spoke with informed me that my Calc II class, along with my Population genetics class should be sufficient. You might want to call up to check on your individual case.

Either way, she told me that a requirement like that would not affect your admission or rejection; however, if you were admitted, you would have to show that you are going to take stats, or make your argument as to why you don't need to take it.

I'll call them to see what am I to do.
It would seem unreasonable if they would not substitute the advance mathematics classes I took for the stat requirement. Plus the first year of bio is all stats anyway.
I have not seen this at any other school, I guess they just want to be unique. 🙂

Stats is required for a reason. You need to know this stuff when they start talking about clinical trials, research papers, p values, chi square, and z scores. I don't even think they have a bio stats class anymore with the new curriculum. We have a research paper or journal article every week to go over in pbl, w/o stats you'd be lost.

since you're a bruin (south side!), you'll know what im talking about when i say that i've heard that LS4 and 32A or better deal with it.
that said, i wonder if APstatistics-gained units cover this just in case im wrong- anyone know?

If you're lucky to be an undergrad at UCLA, take Biostat 100A, a pretty darn easy course. I'm taking it over this summer w/ Sayre, and anyone who gets above average gets an A

I'm very interested in UCLA..but I have AP credit for Chem and I know they don't accept that. Is it shady (ha!) to sign up to take Chem at a CC next spring/summer,? If I got accepted, I'd take the class, but if not, then I wouldn't have wasted my time and money...
