Hey all,

I wanted to know your opinions on these 2 schools- upenn and ucla. I am deciding between the 2 of them and am sooo happy that this is my "difficult decision." I am from LA, but went to college in the midwest. I loved upenn and it seems like it will be a very fun atmosphere for 4 years. But, I also know that I will prob be in LA once I have a practice. Money aside ( this ISN'T a factor for me..it just isn't for financial reasons), which do you think would offer a more well-rounded experience in terms of academics and social life? How important is it to go to school in the state that you will one day open a practice? Is UCLA all work and no play? What are penn's drawbacks ( please don't say money, if you do it wont help me).
Please let me know what ya'll think! Thanks.

I didnt appy to UPenn and im regretting it now, but ive heard really good things about it. Ive heard mixed things baout uCLA, lacking in patients, etc. Go where you got a good vibe and you felt comfortable.

from talking to some dental students, i think you will have a greater advantage of going to a school near where you want to practice. You have a greater opportunity to network with dentists or specialists in your area. You also get a feel of the politics and basically a heads up of the dental community in general. Im having trouble deciding between UPENN and my state school (which is much less known) just because i know i will be able to network easier and have a better feel of my future plans by getting involved as a dental student within my own state. Thats just my take on things. Go with your gut, you dont lose either way.

that's a hard choice, i interviewed at penn and I liked it alot, but at the same time i interviewed at pitt and i think i liked it even more, i would base your choice on location because both programs are relatively the same, and it were me I would take sunny california anyday

You will not be lacking in patients at UCLA.

ucla hands down

The reason i heard the patient thing is bc UCLA is in such a nice area, eg westwood, so where are the people who need help? Ihavent been there yet, so im not purely sure =)

nah, its not true...i volunteer in the dental clinic and as far as i can tell there are PLENTY of patients...the lobby of the clinic is always full

Lots of patients here at Penn. PM if you have any specific questions about the school.
