fleisch said:Hey there Class of '10!!!🙂
My name is Lauren and I am in the class of '09 here at UCLA!!
We just started our 2nd year of classes (YES, we have school over the entire summer, so be grateful you dont start till September!!)...I am bummed because I didn't get a Lil Sib (it was actually my fault cause I couldnt make it to the meeting where we got to pick you all!)...but I just wanted to say hello to you all, and that you all should be LIVING UP your free summer! Yes, UCLA is frikin tough school, and YES, you will study more this year than you ever have in your entire life! But, on the other hand, you will still have time for your outside life (family, wives/husbands, friends, bars, sports, etc!!). So please don't think you are about to enter the end of your life! Cause you arent...!
Can't wait to meet you all! The best advice I have for right now is to relax, get your things organized (teeth collecting, Financial Aid forms (aren't those past due?? Haha!), get a PLANNER!, find a place to live (ahhaah that might be an important priority)), and just have some fun!
Best of luck and see you all at Orientation! Don't worry...there won't be any hazing!!🙂 hahahah!
~Lauren~👍 😀
dat_student said:I think that is it. You may not be able to connect your laptop to their network if you don't have XP pro. It depends on how their network is set up. I am guessing... I can't think of any other reasons.

tofufob said:...This is the last summer you'll have, yet, you happily devote much of your time thinking about UCLA...
tofufob said:dat_student,
i've been noticing the kinds of things you say on the thread. i just gotta say, you are such a character.
You are always thinking about school! This is the last summer you'll have, yet, you happily devote much of your time thinking about UCLA. Wether its housing, financial aid, computer specs, student class, it just seems like you try so hard to get to know about every aspect of the school. You are definitely..MOST DEFINITELY what we call an overachiever.
Anyway, thanx for all the info you shared. Keep up the good work.

But did everyone sign up for the ASDA/ADA membership? I don't really know anything about, except that the paper says about 100% of students join.

mkdhappy said:LO! i was hoping for some enlightening answer from you. 😉 BTW, thanks for the answer to my question regarding health clearance appts. I had mine done today.
...each student i encounter i kept on thinking if they were one of you guys. 😀 I didn't ask, cuz they seem all silent. 😳
i joined too. Just b/c $65 (or watever...lol) seems a small amount compared to our entire cost. I'm sure it'll become handy on paper one day. 🙂
***i was walking to D-school from Ashe Center...and i so HoPe i get parking lot 9!!!! When would we know about parking assignments...anyone know??? Thanks! =)
winlin said:So I've been deadset on buying a thinkpad and not another dell, so I decided to call and see if these specs are really requirements or just recommendations.
I talked to Mary Tawfall, one of the tech advisors, and she told me that all that is really required is a fast enough processor, decent amount RAM, and large enough hard drive space (for saving a lot of images). She even said that most new laptops off the shelf should be fine. They also would like a 4 year warranty, but I think even that is up to us.
I asked specifically about the expansion slots and she said not to worry about those. But she did say that XP Professional is required and that if you come loaded with the home edition they will make you upgrade it.
Hopefully this helps out some of you who are still shopping around.
If you guys still have questions for her, her number is 310-206-3591.
Mrxle3 said:Hello! Did you sign up for parking? Are you not living at Weyburn? Luckily, the housing is just a short walk away from the school, and I plan on just walking to school every morning. Sure beats that huge pricetag on the parking permit!
dat_student said:The more I think about it the more I don't want to install XP Pro. 😡 I'll have to call her tomorrow.
L8DYV said:why???????
L8DYV said:yeah but aren't they gonna charge us for parking at the apt. complex?
howui3 said:i live in Santa Monica and have been going to the beach pretty regularly, and the water is not at all cold - no need for a wetsuit.
in fact it's been HOT for the past few weeks, so it feels nice going to the beach and getting in the water.
MolarMamma said:Hi guys, long time no see...hope you guys are having a great summer!
I just got back from Vegas and man was it hot (113 degrees)...but i had a blast!
I was just wondering if you guys knew if the Weyburn two bedrrom apartments have carpet in the bedrooms. I want to start preparing to move in and this would help.
Thanx so much!

Oh by the way, I have bunch of these teeth collecting jars, if anyone want to buy them. Also, I have a bottle of fresh formaldehyde, and a bottle of, ugh hum, used formaldehyde (do you need a preservative to preserve a preservative?). If you need them, I can let them go for 1/2 of the original price, whatever that price may be. The only down side is you have to pick them up from me at UCLA. I'm not going to mail these items and then pay for shipping. Wouldn't be worthwhile by then. Send me a private message for a response.
Not that your question is geared toward DS2's, but I'll be at Weyburn on Aug 1st, July 31st, today, tomorrow, day after tomorrow, and whatever. Maybe I should start enjoying my summer. Boo-hoo.KAP said:is anyone going to be in weyburn aug 1st?
Alright. No one offered me anything yet. If you change you mind, that's cool too.dat_student said:JK5177 is a super awesome person. If you need "formaldehyde" you should definitely get it from him.
JK5177, I'll be in LA on Aug 11th. I'll purchase your formaldehyde if not sold by then . 🙂
You know what, gather those teeth anyway, even if they are autoclaved, and keep them in a jar that says they are autoclaved. The thing with those teeth collection is that you don't know what you will be doing with them. In restorative dentistry, we started mounting them toward the spring quarter I believe, and all we did was drill on them. I heard later in endo, we will use them to practice root canals. Someone the other day posted to buy maxillary incisors for $50. My point is that you don't know when they will come in handy, the best way to prepare is to collect a boatload of them at whatever condition they are in, and then if you can't use them for an important procedure, you can still use them for a less-important procedure. Collect them all!winlin said:I contacted a perio doc about collecting some teeth, and he told me that it's OSHA regulation for them to autoclave the teeth. The labels we are suppose to put out say "do not autoclave". I was wondering if anyone knows if it matters if the dentist goes ahead and autoclaves the teeth. It's just to make sure it's sterile right?
