Do you guys recommend taking math 32A if i already have AP credit for 31A/B? How do you recommend i fulfill the math prereq? Im thinking 3C, stats 10, and 32A but im not so sure about that last one becuase i heard it's really hard.

Also, how would i satisfy english? Im thinking Eng 4W, 100W, and Some other one non-W class.

Are there easier alternatives to these two plans? Should i take eng/math during my senior year?

I'm pretty sure your advisor can help you better

this is not a UCLA students forum

Supposedly, the 3-series math is easier than the the others - I just took 3B & C (had AP credit for 31A) & Stats 10 to fulfill the requirement. Your AP credit should count toward the math requirement for med schools so you should be fine by taking 3C & Stats - but check with your advisor.

For English - I fulfilled the requirement with English Composition 3 (was required?), English 85 (History of the American Novel, Professor Mott) and a W class.

As far as when to take them - I smattered my English throughout my years. I took my Math classes during my frosh year and then stats senior year. But I'm a nontrad so the schools are seeing my entire transcript. I would definitely show a nice mix of coursework throughout all years. And take some fun classes (History of American Motion Picture, Screenwriting, Language Invention, Seminars are great!) GL :luck:

Many med schools --- including UCLA --- do not accept AP credit and require a full year of math. I agree that the 3 series is way easier.

I would take 32A and 33A and Stats 13...Actually, that's what I did! I've heard horror stories about 32B, and most people skip it anyways. I took the classes over three years ago (freshman year), but it didn't seem that bad. The worst part is that none of the professors speak English. The best part is that because they don't speak English, class was a waste of time, so I never went. The 3 series is supposed to be easier than the 30 series because it's mostly for life science majors, but I don't think there's much difference. If you're strong in math, go for the 30 series. If you like having class at 8am, go for the 3 series. You can also take the classes during summer - there are usually english speaking professors (from what I found) who are usually pretty chill. Btw, isn't 3C the same as 32A?

For the writing requirement, I would take Scand 50W (I think that's the number). It's supposed to be pretty easy. I took a classics class called English Vocabulary...I'm not sure if it will fulfill English requirements because it's not a W class, but I thought it was interesting. I saved two of my English classes for Senior year (and English 3 during Freshman year). If you're a science major, it's kind of nice to have one non-science class...although if you have to write a lot of research papers in your science classes, don't take English at the same time - too much writing.

Regarding the one year requirements, 1 year of english is required by a large majority of the schools, but math is required by only a few schools I applied to. Check MSAR if you're deciding whether or not to take a year of math.

You're right - I had forgotten that and for a moment panicked that I wasnt going to meet the requirements - then I realized I'm fine w/ my 3b, 3c & stats 10....phew....

So, No, correcting myself - AP units may not count so cover your bases and take 3 quarters of math. Stats 10 with Hansen was awesome - he's a cool guy & the class is *easy* as long as you do the work.
