if the last move was 5/31, does that mean they are going to send out letters each week from here on out? i stopped by the admissions office recently and wasn't able to get much information. i'm waitlisted ucla, columbia, penn state, no acceptances. getting a little worried. thanks

So I called the admissions office today. I spoke with Lili... I asked her if the class was full and whether she expected "movement" off the waitlist. She said that June is a big month for people being pulled off the list, and to expect a lot of movement this month.

Then I gave her my AAMC # and asked where I was on the "unranked" waitlist. She put me on hold. Then she said there are about 10 people ahead of me and that my chances are exceptional for acceptance....


Hahhh I wish!!! You know there is no way they would make our life easy like that!

Although my life seems to be hanging on this one decision, I have been able to step back and see the big picture this past week. "What's another year?" I ask myself. It will mean finishing residency at 34 instead of 33. Although those are prime child bearing years, I refuse to let the stress of this impending decision consume me.

I hope everyone can also take a step back. Everything will work out!!!! Good luck to all of you

Yah, the difference of one year isn't that great. That's not what I'm concerned about though. What will tick me off much more is having to waste another 5 Grand on this process and go through another stressful year of applications, interviews, waitlists, etc. The only silver lining I can see is that I will be much more "experienced" in the process so I could avoid the mistakes or know what to do differently to increase my chances. However, with all this stress, you probably don't lose just one year, but maybe 4 or 5 years from your lifespan 😱 .

Man, don't you guys just take undergrad applications for granted. As long as you aren't ******ed, you'll get into a UC.

I would assume a little more than a week after the last batch of letters that got sent out on 5/31? Don't they wait to see how many people among those 5/31 people reject the offer and then look at the waitlist again?

UCLA accepts people throughout the summer. One of my classmates found out a few days before school started! 😱

She didn't say anything about exactly when the next batch would be sent... but she made it sound like they will be letting people in all through June.

From last years thread it definately looks like people are accepted though July as well.

If I remember correctly, hardly any people on the forum for last year's UCLA waitlist got off. Maybe 4-5 people tops? I'm just happy there is more movement in the first few weeks of this summer compared to the WHOLE summer for last year. 😀 Maybe it's because UCLA has no preseason rank for their football team and people are flaking to go to schools like USC? GO BEARS!!! (Cal at #7!)

Thats a good point. Its so hard to know how representative SDN is of the entire class, thought. I also noticed a few people posted getting off the waitlist this year on the UCLA class of 2010, but they were nowhere to be found on the UCLA waitlist (2006 ed.).

I am hoping that the "one third of the matriculated class comes from the waitlist" holds true. I have heard or read this many times. There is apparently a lot of turn over b/c UCLA's financial aid packages are not as attractive as other top tier schools. I have to have hope!!!!!

Eep! I'm really hoping this is not the case for me, because the school that's accepted me (davis) seems to start a month earlier than everyone else. And once I've started school there, I don't think I'm even allowed to just drop out and scoot my butt down to LA. (Am I?) Do you think that's why the schools know where we've been offered acceptance? So they know they have to accept some people (i.e. me) sooner than later, if they plan to accept them at all?

Wow 😱 . I didn't read the "I wish!!!!" part of that post. Good thing someone replied to it because I was planning on calling them tomorrow to ask for my rank. LOL. I was wondering why they gave you such an easy time where as if I call, all they would say is, "I don't know anything, I just know that people have been moved off the waitlist." Sigh... Thanks for the update. I have to find out what's really going on in that admissions committee by piecing together the bits of info they leak out here and there for the past few years and hoping it resembles this year!!! So sad is my life when all I do is wait for that Final Decision Letter: date to change. :-(

hey everyone,

I called the admissions office this Wednesday and they told me that there has been significant waitlist movement and they expect more throughout the summer, but the committee has already met and offered spots to those they felt were qualified. I guess we will have to wait and see if those offered spots decide to take them before anymore spots will be available. I wish everyone else on the waitlist goodluck and hopefully we'll see some more movement in the next few weeks.

"Significant movement" is a lot better than "insignificant". Even though we may not have been in the first batch, at least that batch has a lot of people that potentially may withdraw. That's definitely better than hoping that some of a few # of people that got bumped off will drop.

i wrote two letters since i got onto the waitlist. i spoke with some of the administrative staff when i dropped them off, and i was told that doing so was an extremely good idea, since it shows your continued interest and also when files are discussed, those with new additions get noticed.

hey is a status change always a good thing? i thought i saw a post with someone saying they saw a status change but it was a hold list notification. wasn't sure if that person had been moved off the waitlist or had just not received any final notification at that time. thanks.

In my waitlist letter I wrote that UCLA my was my top choice, how I was disappointed at being waitlisted, why UCLA was a great option for me, and why I was confident I would succeed. Worked for me, but I never sent in a letter after the original I want to be put on the waitlist letter.
