In state student at Uconn, got into both uconn and columbia, but split between the locations and price differences. Any advice on how to navigate this? Is there really weight when it comes to having a dental degree from an ivy anymore?

Uconn is a fantastic school with a great reputation, is pass/fail, and is a fraction of the price of columbia. Not even close, go Uconn. I would take in state at Uconn over any of the ivies.

Yeah, UConn no question. it offers everything Columbia could offer you but also has a smaller class size, is significantly cheaper, cost of living is way cheaper, is a true pass/fail no rank. Has equally good residency placements if not better. Just as good clinically, if not better.

there is really no reason to choose another school over UConn, especially if it’s your state school.

Do Ivies have any clout at residency programs? I'm interested in endo or ortho
No. Not over UConn. Look where UConn places their students - they should’ve sent you a little sheet in a packet when you interviewed it has placement data from the past 5 years or so.

there is virtually no reason why anyone should choose Columbia over UConn.

This one was easier than some of the NYU vs X threads, UCONN all the way lol, just from a purely financial standpoint. We need a sticky thread emphasizing that the idea of an Ivy DDS giving you some secret advantage over any other school just isn’t true or worth the extra cost.
