UCR medical school myth?

Ive heard about UCR wanting to create its own med school for over a year probably now...but i dont know of any actual dates or plans - is it actually ever gonna happen in the near future? or do you people think its just a myth that wont happen for a while..?

I was under the impression that it IS happening. The Regents approved it and supposedly it'll take until 2012 to complete. In the mean time, applicants to the program are restricted to UCR alumni who will use UCLA facilities and upon completion of the MD program, earn a diploma from UCLA med.

Which is probably the best deal possible for premeds... I'd had gone to UCR just for that, but it is still lacking in location and resources =/

Yeah and UC Merced is supposed get theirs open by 2016.

really? so is it 2012? Im just so curious because im gonna be applying to med schools either in 2-3 yrs - so if its not happening fast id miss out on this extra option for a california med school haha 🙄

UCR SOM looks promising. It's about time that someone looked into opening up a new medschool and the extra spots should keep a few more of our fellow Californians from having to freeze their butts off in the midwest and east.

its not a myth, the pre med advisor at my school quit this year (she had only been there for a year!!) so she fill a job at UCR and eventually the future med school.

im just upset cuz its right before apps and all that crazy stuff!!!
