Hi all,

Just a heads-up for UCSD applicants-

They are currently mailing out acceptance notices to selected candidates, as one arrived earlier today. Definitely keep an eye out for your mail! Perhaps UCSF will be sending theirs soon? 😕

Good luck to everyone and congratulations to those with acceptances! 😀

Are you serious? I thought they wouldn't be sending out notifications until mid March...I am so excited. You must be so happy. Congratulations!!!!!!! Thanks for the heads up I will keep a close eye on the mail. Oh no...I am leaving for vacation this week. I won't be in the country until the 10th of March. If in case I am accepted how long will I have to notify UCSD that I would like to accept their offer? One last question that I am dying to know the answer to...was the envelope small or large? Thanks for taking the time to answer. Once again CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! 🙂

I, too, thought that notifications won't arrive until late March! I literally was trembling when I saw the envelope on my table. They only give you two weeks from the date of the offer letter to provide a response or they automatically offer it to the next candidate - so definitely look out for that mail! They want you to fax/email as well as send a hardcopy of your response. Yes, I am extremely excited as UCSD is my top choice. However, I'm still considering UCSF (if I receive an offer) but am definitely leaning towards UCSD as it's an excellent school in a great location and I look forward to being part of their promising new program. As for the envelope - a large manila is a good sign... I wish you the best of :luck: on your acceptance! 😀

Hello there cjsdca 🙂

I am sooooooo excited right now!!!!!! I received my acceptance letter from there today in the mail. UCSD is definetly my top choice and I am very honored to have been accepted. No doubt about it, I am accepting their offer. I also interviewed at UCSF but would much rather go to San Diego. There campus has a good feel to it, lots to offer, an exciting new program and a beautiful city that I can explore. I noticed that you already live down there. If you don't mind me asking, how do you like it? I am glad to know that someone who did their undergraduate work there would be happy to return for another four years.

Hey pharmDove!

A big CONGRATULATIONS to you!!!!!!! Isn't it such a big relief? That absolutely is great news! Yes, you will definitely love SD and will become accustomed quickly. The faculty and students are great - and classes are fairly small so we can all easily and comfortably interact. I'm also excited about the new building and library extension! I definitely had a great experience at UCSD for undergrad, but I feel that the grad/professional schools are much more worthwhile. I completed an MS in Bio there and both research and medical programs are top-notch, so I am definitely confident that the the School of Pharmacy is high-caliber as well. I'm also anticipating the new MBA program that will hopefully soon be available to Pharm D students. Plus, the surrounding pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare industries are huge around campus, and they are all anticipating to hire interested grads from UCSD (so early networking is great). Lastly, the school's affluent, ideal location allows it to have the perfect climate at most times of the year. On some clear days at the medical/pharmacy school, you can even smell the refreshing scent of the ocean in the air. The only problem is that living expenses are currently very high (now at the same level as SF), so I hope I could still afford to still live here after school 😱 ! Other than that, there's absolutely plenty to do and see in SD.

wow ... so if you don't get your mail earlier this week, you are pretty much rejected??

Congratulations on your acceptances!

faradayampere - From my understanding of UCSF (not sure about UCSD), some applicants received acceptance letters early on. Last year, there were some rejection letters sent out early as well. The rest were notified in late march/early april.

Thanks for the info shal...

I guess for those of us who haven't heard... we will be hanging out around our mailbox. =P (as if we weren't already.. haha)

I spoke with the SPPS admissions office at UCSD and they told me that they're still sending out acceptances. Apparently, they're sending out these notices in batches - and the next batch will be mailed out this coming week and so on. This is definitely great news so keep on the lookout! Good luck! 😀

AHHHHHH!!! A HUUUUUUGE package from UCSD arrived today!!! I can't believe it!!! I was trembling and couldn't even pay attention to what was being said in my physiology discussion as a result!!! I know the pros and cons to both UCSD and USC (both are my top choices, each are #1 in my book for various reasons) but all day long I was debating which one to go to (even though I've daydreamed about UCSD for what seems to be like an eon!!!!!). Ahhhh, such a hard decision!! However, after weighing the pros and cons *given my specific interests,*I've decided to be a part of UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences c/o 2009 (plus, oneday_9 said on the phone that if I didn't go, he'd beat the **** out of me and also said I'd be a *****! 😀 )

Mostly, it was because UCSD's emphasis on pharmacogenomics and the abundance of biotech companies fit my professional goals perfectly in addition to the class size being significantly smaller (60 vs. 190). A minor part was because the living area around USC wasn't the greatest in comparison. At any rate, I am rather nervous about the intensive curriculum at UCSD though…any current UCSD students out there? does it feel too overwhelming at times?

Now severing ties with USC SOP will be hard to do, as it is also a hard school to give up. Since my acceptance, I've developed a pretty good relationship with them, especially the Dean of Admissions, via email. They are very nice people, so to those who are going to USC, you will be treated well 🙂

So...for those on the waiting list, you will be moving up 🙂! To the rest of the people applying, best of luck! This has been a great journey so far but in reality, the real journey hasn't even begun yet. Special thanks to Lexian and Oneday_9 (these UCSF men are FABULOUS! Ladies, they’re also single and hot! 🙂 ) I look forward to working closely with the rest of the 59 students in UCSD Skaggs SPPS c/o 2009!!

We are pretty sexy, I agree. Congrats on UCSD!

Hey there! Your sister is an undergrad at UCSD? I know quite a few people who go there for undergrad (none that I am very close with, tho), so wouldn't it be funny if I already know her?

Anyway, it was a hard decision to make. Now it'll be even harder for me to email the AdCom and Jim Granderson about it, or maybe not, according to oneday_9, "they'll forget you in 2 seconds" hahahaha. One thing I'm not going to like about SD is the quarter system and going to school from Sept - June! I love my semester system up here in Berkeley (in addition to the beautiful Bay Area, very sad to see it go) and I enjoy my Aug - May schedule very much (this actually means I get a 4-month summer vacation this summer, heh, so I think I'll go study in England or something). Anyway, be sure to tell me about your experience @ USC (we can exchange contact info like email and such via PM 😉 )!! Best of luck to ya, ilovepharmacy! 👍

Hi Everyone!
I just decided this past weekend that I for sure want to go to UCSD -- I was also in a rut trying to choose between that and USC and UCSF... but I think UCSD is going to be absolutely wonderful! I think San Diego has some of the nicest and most relaxed people in the world... I visit there pretty often, and the lifestyle is sooooo refreshing, especially after you've lived in Los Angeles for a while. 😉 So yes, I can't wait to meet all you other 59 classmembers out there! Woohoo, go Class of 2009! Congrats and Good Luck!

Congrats to you for 1) your acceptances, and 2) enduring the painful task of selecting a school! It's definitely hard to choose between all those great schools, as I have the same issue with choosing between UCSD and UCSF. GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!! It's so hard! I know where I'm leaning but part of me still deeply considers the other.... I just need to finalize my decision! I think I need to sleep this over - if that's even possible at this point.... 😴

I was just curious what aspects you're considering that's still kind of in the grey area and therefore still deciding? 🙂 i just talked to a UCSD PHarm student on the phone tonight and it went SUPER well!!! prior to the phone call, i was like 99% sure UCSD (part of me is still USC) but after the phone call, bam, the student (now my friend 🙂 ) addressed all my concerns and made me feel at ease 🙂 I mean, this girl was a complete stranger (even tho she was my friend's friend) but we INSTANTANEOUSLY clicked and talked on the phone for an hour, including about boys/boyfriends 😉 When a pharmacy student was so willing to talk to a prospective student for an hour on the phone on a school night despite her busy schedule, that really says something to me--a lot. I asked her a ton of questions and I'll be sure to post those up one of these days so the info is made available to others. If you have any specific questions, feel free to let me know and I'll email her to ask her. Hope you go to UCSD 🙂

Hey doesn't listen to her, she doesn't know what she's talking about. lol

Talk to me, and I'll break it down to you about why UCSF is the best choice.

I received my UCSD acceptance last week along with UOP's acceptance. I will decline them both. I hope this will ease the situation a bit for those who are still waiting from these two schools. Best wishes to those who will be attending UCSD this fall.
