UCSF Application 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey everybody, just got my acceptance letter from UCSF. It's dated March 9, I received it today March 11. I live in Oakland (Bay Area Calif). So keep your eyes on the mail! (Like I have to tell you that 🙂 Good luck to everyone! 😀

Congratulations, AntiviralsRule!

I am just wondering, what kind of envelope did you receive your acceptance letter in?

All the envelopes will be the same. Just a regular postal envelope. Everyone will get the small envelope, regardless of acceptances/rejections/waitlists. Congrats to those who have gotten in thus far. 🙂

Kudos!!!:clap: Congrats to you guys!!! Can't wait to hear more acceptances!

Wow, congrats! Glad to see acceptances finally rolling in .... ! Now the agonizing wait of several days due to living on the other side of the country..... 😳

Wow Congratulations everyone!!!!! When was your interview dates??

I interviewed on 2/11 with a bunch of other local applicants. I feel so numb right now. Although I'm excited and relieved, I am still nervous for the rest of you. I can tell there are some amazing people on this forum, and I hope I get to meet you all! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Congratulations, AntiviralsRule!

It was a regular-sized envelope, like you'd get for a bill. This was SO much better than a bill. 🙄

Since based on FB and SDN seems like a few people already got accepted, I started a class acceptance thread in the pharmacy forum:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=708855

Now you guys can start mingling and planning get together celebrations once everyone gets in past April 1st!

Congrats guys. I'm really happy for you guys. Hopefully I can be happy for myself too. Anyone have interviews on 2/19 get acceptance? I'm from the bay and I'm hoping I just get a letter tomorrow. Again, congrats to all who got their acceptances.

Congratulations everyone so far. If my letter is in the mail then I should get it sometime in April over here in NJ.

I also was interviewed on 1/29 and received an offer letter today. I'm so excited ! I'm new to this forum.

Welcome to the SDN world! Congratulations on your acceptance! Is UCSF your # 1 choice?

I'm from the bay area, and I interviewed on 1/29. I haven't received anything yet.. :scared:

nothing for me today either. i'm from southern california and I interviewed on 2/19

hmm nothing for me either :/ hopefully tomorrow?

Yay, first future P1 here, how awesome, can't wait to meet all the P1s next year !

You should start thinking about setting up a Bay Area get together after 1st so youo can meet/friend all your future classmates. I set up the first one last year and it was a lot of fun, plus it gave us a reason to get together and spend time all summer long waaay before school even started. 🙂

Cheb, do you remember if the acceptances were sent out only once weekly around the Thursday time period, or was it in addition to other dates last year?

Don't worry. Remember what the thank you letter said ? Officially all of the applicants who came for the interview will know the results by April 1. On the interview day, Joel also mentioned that some could receive the acceptance letters early, some by April. So just relax and wait until April. You would be fine.

I think my life revolves around waiting for my mail right now.... People asked me if I wanted to do stuff after work, and my response is, "oh, uh, I got some stuff I got to do at home... sorry!" aka, I need to sit at home and stalk my mailman.

While waiting for the mail today, I went through the whole thread and counted who had interviews. Total of 44 people who are waiting for results now ... (excluded people who received rejections pre/post interview and people who received acceptances). About 50 people on SDN who interviewed? Which means if the number interviewed are around 250 (I know Joel said less, but I don't think it was less by a significant number - or at least, that's my assumption), about 20% of those interviewed have posted at least once on this thread.

Just thought it was interesting.

The weather is so nice and I could not go anywhere till the mailman comes...and I am still waiting right now. Thanks for the counting & msg.
I don't feel so bad with the numbers you got 🙂

I received my acceptance yesterday. It was postmarked 3/10, and I live in Florida. I interviewed 2/6 at noon.

I have a feeling I will be rejected. 🙁

same here...i had a dream where i received an acceptance letter from ucsf and later on I found out it was by my mistake..i woke up felt so painful haha.

Common, guys, don't let the sad depressing thoughts creep in, especially since they may be completely unjustified. 🙂

A bulk of people from my class were accepted on third friday-saturday of march, including myself, so just wait for this week and maybe you'll hear something. 🙂

thanks for the positivity cheb! ack what an anxious time!!

After speaking with the office of admissions today, it seems that after all the interviews are complete, each file gets reviewed by the committee randomly. So someone who interviews in Feb might be assessed before the Jan interviewee. This process can take up to a week. They said this gives the admissions a good amount of time to thoroughly review each applicant. I think that this is a really good thing since each admitted applicant has been carefully and thoughtfully selected.

This information calmed my nerves a bit and hopefully it does for yours as well. Good luck everyone 🙂

So they will look at overall application and not just post-interview? It seems that the interview would have been the determinant factor after the selected few were invited for an interview.

Yeah, this makes sense, especially taking into account the rejections we've heard about (re: oral/written communication).

Anyway, nothing today! Hopefully, we'll all hear back positive things this week~~.

I was interviewed in 1/29. Besides the acceptance letter in snail mail, today I also received an email from the Admissions Office confirming the acceptance. So hopefully you will receive something by email too. Good luck, everyone !

They told me that several people review your file, post-interview, so that's why it can take up to a week. I bet the interview makes a big impact on your overall application but interviewers grade applicants differently. Maybe this makes the playing field more even/fair? Seems like a good thing to me

Hi, I haven't posted on here before but I just thought I would confirm- the Admissions Committee had a big meeting last Friday where lots of our fates were decided...

Also, I too stalk my maillady. On Sunday, I was supposed to go study at school with my coworker at noon. The maillady came at 11:50 though and parked outside my house. I seriously waited for like 45 minutes while she delivered mail to my entire neighborhood only to get nothing! 🙂

How did you know they had a big meeting? Insider news? So more letters this week? Can't wait! Stop stalking the mail lady 😡. Haha, jk. I have been checking the mailbox ten times a day cause the mail man comes so late in the afternoon.

NO mail yesterday...! I guess wait until next week!!

I volunteer where one of the admissions committee members works (like 10 people removed so I don't know her personally) but it was mentioned that she was out on Friday for a Ad Com meeting. I assure you my concentration was shot for the rest of my session! I was like "EEEKKKK. They could be deciding on my file RIGHT NOW!" 😱

I thought their adcom meets Monday/Tuesday usually. Letters get sent out Wednesday, and arrive Thursday/Friday/Saturday, or that's what I gather from previous years. Does that mean we might get letters today if they met Friday?

Very doubtful.... meeting on Friday would mean they would probably print and mail on Monday/Tuesday, so IF in fact they did meet and decide on Friday, then most likely you'll hear back on Tuesday/Wednesday in the CA area.

Ahhh! I know! It's KILLING me. I figure it would take 4-5 days so I'm most anxious about the mail on Mondays  Us silly out of staters... this is why I'd prefer email, hehe. Everyone gets a notice at once, regardless of how awesome or crappy their local postal system is.

I know!!!!! we out of staters have to wait while CA people get their mail in like 1-2 days... my interview invite letter was printed 22nd, postmarked 23rd and got them after christmas around 27 or 28th I believe...

BTW, just so no one freaks out, it's sort of a tradition that the P1 class invades the incoming classes FB group because:

  • generally P1s are super close to P2s since we'll be your mentors
  • we'll be spending a ton of time together at all the activities and events
  • we are super excited that you are here
So, a bunch of us already joined your FB group, even some P3s, so if you see a bunch of people there - don't freak out, it's just us. 🙂

Does UCSF send out decisions by the application they get to first after the interview, or do they send them out by region? I had one of the first interview dates, and am from the bay area, and I still have not received any mail. It seems like many of the people who were accepted from the bay area received an acceptance, so I guess I'm expecting depressing news in the mail.

😕 😕 I count only 4 acceptances (might be 5, I skimmed very quickly) and one of them from Florida. That's out of 50 people who interviewed on this thread, meaning MOST people have not heard. From what Chebs said, MOST of the acceptances have not been sent out yet.... just relax!

Joel emphasized that interview dates and when you will receive your letter is all RANDOM! So don't give up hope yet. :xf:
