thts great news can u let us know the procedure , the paper work etc.

did u have to show the entire amount the first and second yr tuition and living expenses in liquid assets?
did u get ur bank loan approved already?

Yes Ann, You have to show the entire amount for two years and the living expenses for yourself and all the dependents. It has to be in liquid assets.
I took a loan from a canadian bank and the rest I had my savings.

I got the I20 within a week after sending the finance statement.

Hi,
WELCOME TO UCSF. So, coming to the working hrs. U have to be there in the school from 8 am to 5 pm, except on few days where u start the school as 9 am. So, from which, r u planing to commute. I know lot of people who commute from Fremont, Dalycity and so on. I think u need to think a lot before making decisions to move in and around Bay area. So I wish you all the best.

Hi international

Thanx for the info... actually i had some confusion , i remember someone telling that for two days a week u have classes till 7 in the evening... i guess it must be for some other school. So i wanted to ask u what were the exact timings... I live in Bay area, Santa Clara , so i was thinking about the commute....

Thanx

Hi,
UCSF has totally changed its educational system by converting in to Pass/No pass. I think it is wonderful and not many exams and no more long working hours either. So people are totally relaxed and i am sure u will love the program.
Get ready for the good and enjoyable days.

hey international,
i have talked to a few poeple abt housing , i have heard different opinions abt school housing and off campus housing.
which do u think is better - acc to convinience and also expenses?
also whn is the right time to hunt for apt, if it is offcampus and wht r the best places to stay?

Hi International,
I have a question for you. Which cell phone service is best suited for SF in terms of connectivity. I have a T-mobile and I had problems with it when I was there for the inteview....the signal was poor. One of my friends told me that Verizon is the best for CA. Is it true?

Ramya

Hi,
Regarding housing, some of my classmates stay oncampus and some stay offcampus and some commute from Bay area. I heard that they are starting a new campus housing and I dont know any details about it. But it is littlE far, but you will have shuttle service through out the day. I dont know whether is is furnished or not.

Coming to staying off campus, u can find some thing very near, but u might need to arrange everything from the scrap including the signing a lease. But u can find some thing very near to the school so that u can feel more comfortable, I suppose. Coming to, when to start searching, I dont think it will be hard to find a housing if u r planning to share an apartment with some of ur class mates or if u want stay alone. U can search online in Craigslist or some thing like that. Or u can come one week in advance and see a house or u can come 15 days before the start of the school and u can find one.

I will update here, if there any are vacancies available near the school, so that you guys can call them and find out. I cannot promise on this, but i will try my best

Alll the best

International

Hi,
I am not sure about the T-Mobile, but i have AT&T-Cingular, and i didnt find any problem in the school except in some class rooms, where i dont think others are getting any signal either. I think you can change the service provider, if u dont find a good reception. But if ur service lease is getting over, i will suggest you to move to Cingular. I dont have much idea on Verizon.

All the best

Thanks for the information, International.

UCSF School Of Dentistry Associate Dean Charles Alexander Awarded Campus Martin Luther King Award For Promoting Ethnic Diversity
2/8/2005
Charles Alexander, Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the UCSF School of Dentistry, was selected as one of three recipients of the 2005 Martin Luther King Jr. Award for his efforts in making UCSF a more ethnically diverse institution. The award winners will be honored Tuesday, Jan. 25, at a ceremony on the UCSF campus as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Week at UCSF.

Also being honored on that day will be: Carmen Portillo, associate professor in the School of Nursing’s Department of Community Health Systems, and Katherine Lupton, a fourth-year medical student.

“I was so pleased to hear that Dr. Alexander was recognized for this well-deserved honor,” said School of Dentistry Dean Charles Bertolami. “His longstanding efforts to make UCSF a more widely representative institution will go a long way to benefiting not just the profession of dentistry and the UCSF campus, but the health care field overall. Dr. Alexander has found new and innovative strategies to enable our school to fulfill its pledge of offering opportunities to all the citizens in California. He remains committed to the goals of public service, diversity and equal opportunity, and is leading the way in finding new solutions to these old problems,” Dean Bertolami added.

(I could not add the link to this post....)

Good luck with your loans and other formalities....
Best wishes,

Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum and wanted some info from the experienced people 🙂

I heard/read that USC is a tough program compared to UCSF but the clinical practice there is better than UCSF? is this true?
USC is a Problem Based Learnign with little classroom teaching... also there is lots n lots of lab work which kills - one of my seniors told me this.

How is the UCSF program compared to this?

Guys who are already in the program could comment on what there experience is at UCSF - classroom teaching for already Dentists.. is it a good learning or waste of time?

If I am in the bay area what options should I consider given that I am accepted at both the schools?

Appreciate you help

Hi all,

I recieved an e-mail from Wanda asking us to get extracted teeth for Pre-Clinical Endo. Can anyone guide me how can I go about collecting the teeth??

Thanks,
