UCSF post-interview news

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So March 15 is tomorrow...not that anyone waiting to hear from UCSF isn't well aware of that. If you hear any good news from this round of acceptances, please be sure to let us know when it arrived so we know to check and see if our mailboxes hold similar good news...or if it is yet another month of waiting.

waiting since the first week of december, if i hear something...i will definitely let you know. although, i think i will be hearing from ucsf the very beginning of april.

Anyone here a non-CA resident? We can stress together. Good luck to everyone! I will be eagerly watching this thread for news.

Hi guys, I called UCSF and they said that they put acceptances in the mail today. I thought others would like to know this. So start checking your mailboxes tomorrow. Goodluck everyone!

You just beat me to calling, good to know they went out today though, I hope we all get what we are hoping for 🙂

Thanks btowngirl! Let us know when you hear. I'm on the East Coast so it may take a few days to reach me, whenever they send the decision letter. Although, I have a feeling it will be in April for me, not this month.

:luck:

Is the beginning of April more waitlists/rejections or more acceptances?

waitlists/rejections

wow, the wait must be driving you guys crazy. I bet you're wishing that they'd just send an email, so that the compulsive mail-checking is just limited to one day...good luck to all!

WORD.

And speaking of which, any news on the UCSF front?

How long did it take to receive an acceptance for those in southern california?

so i hate my mail service. it is now 6:20pm and i still havent received today's mail. what a f*cking b*tch this wait is!

Is anyone else besides the like 4 or 5 of us here waiting as desperately as we are?

i interviewed on 3/7 - any hope that I might hear back with this round of acceptances? 😳

I am painfully waiting too. 🙂

Good luck, Mateodaspy.

For you, it's probably not an issue of if you get in, but when. Obviously, you're an amazing applicant, but I think that you will more likely be accepted next month rather than this one.

But hey--you never know. Would you come to UCSF over some of the East Coast powerhouses that have accepted you?

G'luck! :luck:

i'm in the same boat... i interviewed 3/8. i'm not expecting to hear anything until right before the may 15 deadline.

No good news for anyone then?

Every time you guys bump this thread up to the top, I jump out of my seat and think: "Yes! Someone got in!!"

Stop fooling me, guys! I'm going to have a heart attack soon if you keep this up

Ain't no comparison between Boston/Baltimore and SF!

It would be a really tough decision if I got into UCSF.... I've always wanted to live on the West coast -- then again, pretty much anything's a step up coming from TX 🙂

SF is a tight city.

I lived in Texas once for about 3 months (in a city called Plainview, some 40 mi north of Lubbock). Yikes. :scared:

But Houston can't be all that bad?

G'luck! :luck: :luck: :luck:

Awesome--Congratulations Milano!!! That's great news!! 😀

Did it come in a large or small envelope?

Best,

Anyone on the east coast get there mail from UCSF. Newbie here..looking for a little love from UCSF right about now. Mr. Pena told me the letters were released Tuesday...??Also, any of you deciding between UCSF and east coast schools, like Harvard and Duke.

Thanks guys, you are so awesome! It came in a large envelope.

I got the large envelope from UCSF yesterday (Friday)....I'm on the east coast (Cambridge, MA). I interviewed near the very end of January, so the wait was about 7 weeks.

Also, aeneid -- Though SF is AWESOME (both the school and the city), I'm a life-long east coaster with a lot of family around here, and I think I'm pretty much set with going to Harvard. Being out of state in Cali, the cost between attending the two wouldn't be too different (tuition might be slightly higher at Harvard, but I think cost of living in SF vs Boston would be about the same, and I'd spend a lot more on travel between there and the east coast). I was waitlisted at Duke but took myself off of the list. The only school that left that I want to hear back from before deciding 100% on Harvard is Penn...

Congrat on UCSF...Location can be a strong determining factor. I've been lucky to live in different places in my life. I wonder, besides the location of your family, what other factors are most relevant for you. Do you have any thoughts about the differences in the school?

All the best

just got put in the high priority category aka hold until at least may15. well, at least i dont have to worry about being completely rejected for awhile. i dont know what this means really, or what to think of it. 😕

The high priority list carries a very good chance of getting accepted sometime in the early summer. We take a good handful off the waitlist and the high priority get first dibs. Best of luck.

i am not on the high priority waitlist. i am in the high priority category, basically like hold or deferred decision.

based on the PMs i have recently received, i can tell there is a lot of curiosity/anxiety about my recent post. i understand this completely. here is my info and the details of receiving the high priority category notification letter:

interviewed: early dec.
received: a thin envelope today in the mail dated march 21.
location: i live very close to san francisco and ALWAYS receive my mail from ucsf exactly one day after it was mailed/dated.
residency: california

i think this answers most of the questions.

edit: i love ucsf. i already sent them a letter of intent. does anyone know if they allow you to send in more material if in this category?

I interviewed on March 7th -- did anyone with a late interview hear back yet? (late=February or later)

Right. You are waiting and your name is on a list of people who have have priority. The decision to accept you or not is deferred until those that have gotten acceptance letters make their decisions. Sounds like a waitlist to me 🙂 Those on the high priority list have great chances historically. A lot of my classmates got in as high priority.

i sure hope you are right!

bump.

what is the latest interview date that has heard back from ucsf?

I interviewd on 2/7 and got the "high priority" letter yesterday. The letter was dated 3/21/05 and I am out of state in NY. I too don't like the extra waiting, but I guess I have no control over it. Also being out of state I don't have much hope of being accepted, but I can keep my fingers crossed.

what up people,
any recent news from these guys? i'm still waiting post-interview for 3+ months lol

Does anyone know how many more rounds of acceptances will be sent out before may 15? Is there just the April 15 decisions or will they be meeting a couple of times?

April 15th is the last day for initial acceptance offers to be mailed out from what I heard from the admissions office...

can totally sympathize here: interviewed 1/3 and still nothing. i assume this is a rejection coming

Does anyone have any more insight into the whole high priority ranking thing? Are we already re-ranked? Are they gonna do it in a few weeks?

Are people pulled off the alternate list in order of ranking or is it more subjective than that?

Hi everybody,

So, I called the admissions office yesterday and the nice lady told me that initial offers of acceptance will go out next week and also around the 15th of April. At least all of us hopefuls have two rounds of compulsive mail-checking this month!

She said that almost everyone will hear about some decision (high priority, accept, reject) by the first of May. But, after surfing old SDN threads (I love how I have the time for all this useless research but I apparently don't have the time to open my neurobio text), I found out that at least one person got a first-round acceptance after the 15th of May. However, that was also two years ago, so maybe their system is different now.

CaMD, As far as ranking of the high priority people, I believe people are notified of their ranking after the 15th of May...however when the adcom actually creates the ranking is a total mystery to me.

The waiting definitely is nerve-racking so if anyone hears, let us know!

Thanks and :luck: to everyone!

cuddlydoc, thanks for passing along the information! So, if I understand you correctly, there will be two rounds of letters this coming week? The first, early next week (i.e. Monday, April 11th), and then again at the end of the week (Friday, April 15th)? I was just confused there for a second since April 15th is Friday of next week.

Thanks,
Crimson

Hey Crimson,

Yeah, I was confused about that too...She said "next week and around the 15th of April". Maybe she meant early next week (around Monday April 11th) and then early the following week (as in, after Friday April 15th, so maybe the following Monday?). All I know is that she claimed that there will be at least two rounds of acceptances coming up this month. I hope this clarifies something at least! 🙂

Thanks again Cuddlydoc--2 rounds of acceptance are certainly better than one! Here's to good news for all of us over the next two weeks.

Good luck! :luck:
