UCSF post-interview news

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just got my 'High Priority category' letter. I interviewed March 8 and it was dated April 5.... didn't take long to make that decision, huh?
Does anyone have any more information about sending updates/additional LOR/LOI? Also, do they actually accept people out of this category before May 15, or is everyone just waitlisted or rejected?

hey fellow high priority lister. I am in the same boat and considering sending a LOI, but I don't really know how much affect they can have at UCSF since admissions is done there mainly threw a formula. Argh and being out-of-state I might as well give up

Yup!!! May 7-8. Hope to see you there!

I got my acceptance letter today -- interviewed on 3/7, letter postmarked 4/13. Good luck to all those waiting -- hope to see you all at the second look in May!

Has anyone from the high priority pool heard any news recently? I thought they were going to give us a status update last week but I didn't get anything.

I was on the high priority list and got rejected a week ago. I am from out of state.

I'm sorry to hear that jjmack. Don't know if it's really consolation but remember that even getting an interview at UCSF, especially out of state, was no small feat.

True, but it would have been fun to go to school there.

True 'nuff.

So that's it? No one else has heard anything?

my friend got a rejection letter last week after being on high priority list

i got a rejection letter last week too. i'm a ca resident.

I got a letter today saying that I am selected as an alternate and am on the top half of the waitlist ( out of 100 alternates) The letter was Post Marked May 10.

\
They also included a form that says I need to send a transcript from every institution listed on my AMCAS. I though I was done writing 6 dollar checks. Here we go again

I got several PM's with the same questions about my waitlist letter saying basically

"Where do you live? Also, did the letter say anything else of value, such has how many actually end of getting in, etc?"

I live just south of San Francisco in Millbrae. The letter said that movement in past years has been different and so they could not say if it is likely Ill be accepted. They also said that they cannot tell me any more in terms of my relative spot in the top 50, which is strange becasue at my interview day they told me each applicant is given a weighted score. Silly UCSF, theres no need to be coy.

got the same thing today. in Palo alto

yup me too, Lafayette, CA my brother called me, how agonizing, I hope since it's not May 15th yet, a whole bunch of people will withdrawl tomorrow and we will be bumped up. Does anyone know what the stats were like for last year's alternate list

I don't know specific stats...but it seems like everyone I know who went to SF got in off the waitlist. I'm busy trying to convince my friends to choose HMS over SF this year. jk. I heard from the revisit weekend most of the people were deciding between SF and some awesome schools and only about half of them seemed intent on SF. Who knows tho. That stem cell stuff could also attract a lot of people. Anyway good luck to you all...I never thought I'd come this close.

I was at the revisit weekend, and just about everyone that I met had already decided to attend UCSF. A small minority (maybe 1/5 of the attendees) were still trying to decide.

oh i guess someone was just trying to make me feel better about my chances.

well good luck to everyone on the alternate list, I predict the first acceptance from the alternate list will occur May 22nd. it would be nice if I could find out early, so maybe i can plan on backpacking in europe with a peaceful state of mind this summer

So if SF enrolls 140 students and their class is full right now(pre may 15th deadline), how many total does that mean they have already accepted? I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much.

Sorry, I mean to send any discouraging comments. I'm sure UCSF will take some people from the waitlist (I mean doesn't every school take people off the waitlist). Just don't give up hopes until it's totally over. And if you make it, definitely come.

has anyone gotten anything other than the "top-half" of alternate list letter?

If the alternate list is ranked, how come they can't tell us anything more than top or bottom half?

I was told that the first acceptances off the waitlist will go out at the end of this upcoming week or right after memorial day.

Have you, or anyone else, heard of people getting in straight from High Priority (in other words, by bypassing the top-half/bottom-half alternate list letter?

Yeah but it happened about a month ago. It happened to my friend and he was told they did that because he was at the very top of the waitlist and they wanted him to be able to make the choice before the 15th. They also wanted him to go to second look.

did they really send out "bottom half" letters?

i doubt it. I think there are probably just folks that have heard nothing.

I was just wondering what your scores were and experiences were that got you waitlisted? Hope Im not being intrusive! Thanks

Well I just got a waitlist letter dated 1/11 so keep your eyes open.

I feel absolutely crushed. I REEALLLYY wanted UCSF. I *KNOW* that a waitlist is not a rejection but it certainly feels like it. They looked at my file and said, "hmm, not good enough for us." I also know that one cannot get one's heart set on a school that happens to be in the top 10 when one is a quite good but not fantastic applicant. I tried so hard to tell myself that they weren't my first choice and I thought I had myself convinced until I got the thin little envelope this morning. Now I'm sitting here at work trying not to cry.

Part of my problem with the waitlist thing is that I am coordinating locations with my fiance, so I can't really sit around waiting for an acceptance letter to come the week before school starts. Basically if I don't get off the list in May or at the latest early June then that's the end of the line. And I'm not sure I can write an LOI until he knows where all his job offers stand so I might not even have that card to play.

I'm so depressed. 🙁 🙁 🙁

has anyone heard anything about movement from the waitlist

I got an acceptance packet on saturday, the 28th. I was on the top half of the list. 🙂

Congrats!!!
did they call you before hand?

No phone call. Good luck to you! 🙂

Yes , they did. I friend of mine received it ... but he is in UCD already so it was not a problem!

Does anyone know anything about when they will send another round of acceptances? Or has anyone heard anything in the last week?

Isn't waiting grand....hehe

I called UCSF a few days ago and they told me that this week they were going to send out some more letters. Also, they said that they sent out about 15 acceptances so the first 15 students on top of the list are already taken care of, if that is what they wanted.

thanks, good luck to you and everyone...

Hey, have you seen any answer to the specific logistics at UCSF ( daily routine, labs, etc)? I am trying to have a feel for life at UCSF as an M1.

Well, I guess that rules out the possibility that I was in the top 15. 🙂
I hope a lot of them said "no thanks." I wonder how long they're given to decide.

(I also called last week and was told they'd mail more out at the end of last week or beginning of this week.)

Just called today, they said that there has been some movement since they are still hearing back from people who got accepted in May. They said that any acceptances they will send by mail throughout June. they will call people on the alternate list after July 4th to see if they are still interested

I just got in off the waitlist. No phone call. They said I was top half.

Hey, congratulation on the letter. It is great to hear that they got a musician there. What are your thoughts about the acceptance? I am very non traditional ( I would not know where to start), so I am happy to see that they are acceping people with non ordinary background. Take care.

congrats, hopefully I will get some good news too and see you in the fall

Thanks LUMD.
I am very happy and somewhat surprised to be honest. I don't know how to word this better than to say that getting an acceptance really makes me respect a school. I have a unique background for a med school applicant. I've done virtually no EC's related to medicine, and no research, at all, ever. I toured with a rock band for the past four years. So, I don't know, I'll stop there, hooray for UCSF. It seems to me they went against their reputation🙂

Ross,
I am reading both threads and I was wondering if you actually talked to some students at both schools. Againg, you are in a win-win situation since both UCSF and USC are good schools. It may be worth trying to find out who are some of the incoming students but it is a bit of a long stretch.

Any news? Im guessing the class is pretty much filled
