I must utter this exact statement at least daily to someone who asks where I'm going to med school.
Congrats on UCI though!

I vote that April 19th marks the deliniation between mid- and late-April. So come on UCSF... where are those letters? 🙄
I think "late April" might be like "letters will be mailed around the 15th of the month"... 🙄
Have you guys been sending in stuff to update your apps? I sent a letter in the beginning of March with an update before I got the HP, but I'm wondering if I should do something else.
I've heard that UCSF is one of the schools that you don't want to provide updates unless you really have something to say. I guess some schools like it when you send out periodic feelers, but UCSF isn't one of them.Have you guys been sending in stuff to update your apps? I'd send an update if you have news, but wouldn't send an update if it consisted of "still volunteering...". I've been wracking my brain trying to think of a good update but am drawing blanks...
Just thought I'd throw in my $.02
I interviewed pretty late in February and was concerned that this would put me at a disadvantage for getting an acceptance from UCSF. About 3 weeks after my interview, I created and mailed a strong letter of interest. I had no new updates but wanted to express that after all 11 of my interviews were completed - I knew for SURE that UCSF was the only place that felt like "home" 🙂. Didn't phrase it exactly that way - more of a thank you note to Dean Wofsy with added info about why my strengths match their program goals, etc. - you know the fine line between "selling and begging".
I'm not sure if it helped or hurt to be honest - but I got an acceptance afterwards, so who knows.......
Hey Guys, my father wants to visit me in Davis during the 2nd look weekend for UCSF. He wanted to know if he could go along. Do you think this would be wierd, or would he have anything to do?
Comments Appreciated, thanks
I'd think it a bit weird if someone brought their parents to a second look. Or to interviews. Or on dates. I'd try to reschedule his trip.Hey Guys, my father wants to visit me in Davis during the 2nd look weekend for UCSF. He wanted to know if he could go along. well, i just got my rejection letter today, post HP.
Sorry to hear about the rejection, diatom. I figure you're right about better knowing now. At least you don't have to do the hail-mary/nail-biting thing for the rest of the summer.well, i just got my rejection letter today, post HP.

kinda blows. i thought they would at least put me on the waiting list after getting HPed. oh wells. i guess they were doing me a favor by ending my wait/pain sooner.
bye bye SF 🙁

First, diatom, sorry to hear 🙁 Good luck to you wherever you end up!
Re updates, yeah I think you guys are right about having something substantial to say. The letter I sent was half interest half update, and the only thing I've done since then is write a fat, miserable grant. I guess I'll just sit tight for now, because, honestly, I don't think I can bring myself to write one more schmoozy letter anyway.
PG, did you make your decision yet?
Sorry to hear that diatom, I'm on HP as well and I know the pain of waiting has been killer. On the bright side, if you interviewed at UCSF you probably have a lot of other wonderful acceptance offers on your platter. Good luck to you wherever you decide to go.🙂
P.S. Karakiz, given what notdeadyet said, I dunno that I'd send them a "I'm still doing what I was doing before" update...Although I did in early March b/c I was hoping it wouldn't hurt. However, if you've recently done something amazing that they don't know about, I'd definitely send one. Also, I think letters of intent (UR my #1) or even interest (UR one of my top choices and I'm still interested although I've been accepted elsewhere) are never a bad idea (except in the case of UC Davis--they're sooo far behind). I sent a letter of interest to UCI (b/c I was saving the letter of intent for UCSF) and got accepted about a month after it arrived. I had been waitlisted for 6 months prior to sending the letter so I think it really helped.
I called the admissions office after reading Diatom's post last week. I found out that a "sizeable mailing" was sent out late last week to those who'd received the HP letter, but not ALL updates were sent.
This probably only increases the mailbox anxiety now. Good luck everyone!![]()

Has anybody heard anything new? Still no news in SoCal.![]()

Hey gang, your all probably gonna think I'm 2 skips past delerious for writing this, and you're probably all correct (more like 50 skips), but regardless I thought we could all use some comic relief while we wait.
Anyway, I can never ever remember my dreams, but 2 days in a row before I got my rejection from Harvard I dreamt that I had been rejected (I know...big surprise, but false hope is a wretched creature anyway). Then, a few days before I came off the waitlist @ UCI I dreamt that UCI had accepted me.
So here's the deal, last night I dreamt that UCSF waitlisted me...😕
Anyone care to wager that my freaky dreams will be 3 for 3? I'll throw $20 bucks in the communal hat.![]()
P.S. No news in So Cal today
WOW! Sounds freaky, but true. Perhaps you can dream about me so I dont have to wait to find out my fate![]()
BTW-my dream last night was about getting stabbed by someone with a sword.........maybe I shouldnt go out tonight![]()

UCSF 2nd look weekend is only really on Saturday, correct? Sunday the students are planning an activity, but....
Anyway, I lost some of the paperwork, what do we need? Can we wear shorts and a T shirt, do we need to wear a tie and slacks?

I received a rather sweet email from UCSF today about the status of my app for the PRIME program. The nut of it was that final decisions are being made on PRIME on May 11th and if I'm not accepted to UCSF by then, I won't get in to PRIME (but it really was a very sweetly worded, supportive email. Kudos).
So I called Admissions and was told that they are hoping to send out word to HP waitlisters next week. I tried to pin her to a day, but she held firm at "next week".
Hopefully, we SF types can give you news when we start receiving stuff. Good luck waiting, everyone...
Actually, it's supposed to be stunning weather this weekend. Sunny skies and no rain. High's in the low to mid 70's. But we get betrayed a lot by weather here.Felicia Tripp sent out an email saying that the dress for the weekend is casual. I dont know what the weather is like in SF right now, but I'm thinking that its probably too cold for shorts and a Tshirt.
Isn't second look only for those who are accepted? Are any HPers going to revisit weekend, or is that just too awkward and inappropriate?
Well, if you get in off the waitlist before May 11th (big longshot) you still have a chance. But for the vast majority of us, no.NDY: that sucks about Prime. I have not received that email but I too was hoping for Prime. So basically, if you get in off the waitlist you cannot do prime? That is really unfortunate. sigh.
