UCSF Reloaded-- Anyone excited? Part 2

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I vote that April 19th marks the deliniation between mid- and late-April. So come on UCSF... where are those letters? 🙄

I think "late April" might be like "letters will be mailed around the 15th of the month"... 🙄

Have you guys been sending in stuff to update your apps? I sent a letter in the beginning of March with an update before I got the HP, but I'm wondering if I should do something else.

I sent in a letter of update in January after my Dec interview. I've been contemplating sending them a letter of intent, but I'm not sure if it would make any diff at this point.

Congrats on UCI, Xtremeangel. Well done!

I've heard that UCSF is one of the schools that you don't want to provide updates unless you really have something to say. I guess some schools like it when you send out periodic feelers, but UCSF isn't one of them.

I'd send an update if you have news, but wouldn't send an update if it consisted of "still volunteering...". I've been wracking my brain trying to think of a good update but am drawing blanks...

Hey Guys, my father wants to visit me in Davis during the 2nd look weekend for UCSF. He wanted to know if he could go along. Do you think this would be wierd, or would he have anything to do?

Comments Appreciated, thanks

Just thought I'd throw in my $.02

I interviewed pretty late in February and was concerned that this would put me at a disadvantage for getting an acceptance from UCSF. About 3 weeks after my interview, I created and mailed a strong letter of interest. I had no new updates but wanted to express that after all 11 of my interviews were completed - I knew for SURE that UCSF was the only place that felt like "home" 🙂. Didn't phrase it exactly that way - more of a thank you note to Dean Wofsy with added info about why my strengths match their program goals, etc. - you know the fine line between "selling and begging".

I'm not sure if it helped or hurt to be honest - but I got an acceptance afterwards, so who knows.......

I did the same and I was HP'd - guessing you would have been accepted anyway.

I think it sounds great. I take my dad a lot of places, hehe. And if you need a ride to Davis, I can do that too, since I'll be going home near Sacto too 🙂.

I'd think it a bit weird if someone brought their parents to a second look. Or to interviews. Or on dates. I'd try to reschedule his trip.

I actually had the exact same question and decided to call the admissions office, and they told me that YES it would be weird, and ppl that bring their parent(s) are DEFINITELY in the minority. (I had this idea it was like undergrad where everyone brings their parents ) Anyways, good information to know 😎

well, i just got my rejection letter today, post HP.

kinda blows. i thought they would at least put me on the waiting list after getting HPed. oh wells. i guess they were doing me a favor by ending my wait/pain sooner.

bye bye SF 🙁

Thanx for the responses.

Ill call up my dad and try to reschedule.

Im looking forward to meeting you guys! Future friends, classmates and collegues.

well, i just got my rejection letter today, post HP.

So sorry to hear that diatom. Not the news any of us wanted to hear "late-April".

Good luck at Drexel or SUNY.

Sorry to hear about the rejection, diatom. I figure you're right about better knowing now. At least you don't have to do the hail-mary/nail-biting thing for the rest of the summer.

Onward and upward...

That means it is probably LATE-april NOW!!!!

The rest of us should be hearing soon, hopefully with a better outcome!:scared:

so sorry diatom, but at least you have other options! =( good luck to you!

it's "late april" already? yikes...my heart just skipped a beat...😱

Sorry to hear that diatom, I'm on HP as well and I know the pain of waiting has been killer. On the bright side, if you interviewed at UCSF you probably have a lot of other wonderful acceptance offers on your platter. Good luck to you wherever you decide to go.🙂

P.S. Karakiz, given what notdeadyet said, I dunno that I'd send them a "I'm still doing what I was doing before" update...Although I did in early March b/c I was hoping it wouldn't hurt. However, if you've recently done something amazing that they don't know about, I'd definitely send one. Also, I think letters of intent (UR my #1) or even interest (UR one of my top choices and I'm still interested although I've been accepted elsewhere) are never a bad idea (except in the case of UC Davis--they're sooo far behind). I sent a letter of interest to UCI (b/c I was saving the letter of intent for UCSF) and got accepted about a month after it arrived. I had been waitlisted for 6 months prior to sending the letter so I think it really helped.

i agree. a letter definitely won't hurt as long as you have concert material.

i sent a 3 page, singled spaced letter to dr. wofsy about how i love ucsf and think i will fit well etc. i still didn't get in, but at least i feel better now knowing that i put in effort instead of regretting later and wondering what would have happened if i had sent in an intent letter.

Just wanted to check in and wish everyone good luck...waiting is forever...I hope the end of April (whenever that is) brings good news for you all 🙂

First, diatom, sorry to hear 🙁 Good luck to you wherever you end up!

Re updates, yeah I think you guys are right about having something substantial to say. The letter I sent was half interest half update, and the only thing I've done since then is write a fat, miserable grant. I guess I'll just sit tight for now, because, honestly, I don't think I can bring myself to write one more schmoozy letter anyway.

PG, did you make your decision yet?

Yeah...I think its gonna be UCSF. I was just at a research conf in LA (I just could not see myself living in the SoCal Area...too big for me. Although I love Westwood, I really started to see myself as a student more at UCSF after I visited again (post-acceptance). I'm going to Revisit Weekend...so hopefully that will seal the deal.

Good Luck :luck: Itrain and everyone else awaiting news 🙂

WooHoo!!! ~8 days left until HP decisions arrive...assuming arrival on the last day in April... (I'm a nervous wreck!) Hang in there guys, we're almost there!!!😀

At this point I just want a decision, good or bad. Gluck Everyone.:luck:

Sorry to hear that diatom! I am glad to hear that you have several other offers to help ease the pain tho. 4 acceptances is impressive. =)

I don't think I'm going to send a letter of intent in. I'm just going to wait and see how it plays out. I'm not sure it would make a difference, and I don't really have anything to add... so here's to waiting for more news.. GL everyone!!

I called the admissions office after reading Diatom's post last week. I found out that a "sizeable mailing" was sent out late last week to those who'd received the HP letter, but not ALL updates were sent.

This probably only increases the mailbox anxiety now. Good luck everyone! :luck:

I hope today is the day!!! Come on USPS bring us some love from SF!! :luck: :luck: EVERYBODY!!! :luck: :luck:

What do we think the most sizeable group is? Rejections? Waitlist? I'm guessing it's not additional acceptances 🙄

Did they ever tell anyone ~ how many people were on HP to begin with?

My mailbox anxiety was heightened with diatom's post, but it's even worse now! Aaaah! I hope these "mailings" are good news for us HP'ers! :luck: :luck: :luck:

nothin in the mail today. maybe tomorrow. :luck: :luck: everyone :luck: :luck:

Has anybody heard anything new? Still no news in SoCal. :luck: :luck:

Hey gang, your all probably gonna think I'm 2 skips past delerious for writing this, and you're probably all correct (more like 50 skips), but regardless I thought we could all use some comic relief while we wait.

Anyway, I can never ever remember my dreams, but 2 days in a row before I got my rejection from Harvard I dreamt that I had been rejected (I know...big surprise, but false hope is a wretched creature anyway :d). Then, a few days before I came off the waitlist @ UCI I dreamt that UCI had accepted me.

So here's the deal, last night I dreamt that UCSF waitlisted me...😕

Anyone care to wager that my freaky dreams will be 3 for 3? I'll throw $20 bucks in the communal hat.

P.S. No news in So Cal today

WOW! Sounds freaky, but true. Perhaps you can dream about me so I dont have to wait to find out my fate:laugh:

BTW-my dream last night was about getting stabbed by someone with a sword.........maybe I shouldnt go out tonight:scared: :scared:

Whoa! Stabbed with a sword!!!? Good God!!! I guess there are more nightmarish things to dream about than being waitlisted @ UCSF...LOL!!! Thanx though, you're freakier dream has made me feel much better about mine (j/k).😀 I'll let U know how it turns out.

P.S. I'll do my best to channel my inner oracle on your behalf tonight.😀 Here's to hoping for sweet dreams...that we both get accepted straight off of HP (making my original freaky waitlist dream wrong).:luck: 😀 :luck:

does anybody know when the next batch of decisions will be sent? :luck: :luck: goodluck to everyone still hanging in there on the HP :luck: :luck:

DoctorPlastic has been watching too much Highlander...

And I wish the rest of you luck and better dreams.

UCSF 2nd look weekend is only really on Saturday, correct? Sunday the students are planning an activity, but....

Anyway, I lost some of the paperwork, what do we need? Can we wear shorts and a T shirt, do we need to wear a tie and slacks?

-Nolan-

I received a rather sweet email from UCSF today about the status of my app for the PRIME program. The nut of it was that final decisions are being made on PRIME on May 11th and if I'm not accepted to UCSF by then, I won't get in to PRIME (but it really was a very sweetly worded, supportive email. Kudos).

So I called Admissions and was told that they are hoping to send out word to HP waitlisters next week. I tried to pin her to a day, but she held firm at "next week".

Hopefully, we SF types can give you news when we start receiving stuff. Good luck waiting, everyone...

Excellent!! At least we'll finally know🙂 :luck: :luck: Good luck everyone on the HP list!!! :luck: :luck:

Felicia Tripp sent out an email saying that the dress for the weekend is casual. I dont know what the weather is like in SF right now, but I'm thinking that its probably too cold for shorts and a Tshirt.

Thanx for the info NDY...I've got my fingers crossed.:luck:

Actually, it's supposed to be stunning weather this weekend. Sunny skies and no rain. High's in the low to mid 70's. But we get betrayed a lot by weather here.

Definitely don't dress too heavy. Should be lovely... Hope 2nd lookers have a wonderful weekend....

No news yet in the south.

NDY: that sucks about Prime. I have not received that email but I too was hoping for Prime. So basically, if you get in off the waitlist you cannot do prime? That is really unfortunate. sigh.

Are any HPers going to revisit weekend, or is that just too awkward and inappropriate?

Well, if you get in off the waitlist before May 11th (big longshot) you still have a chance. But for the vast majority of us, no.

It's too bad, but I'm okay with it. Since I wasn't accepted to UCSF after they looked over my application initially, getting in at all is a real hail mary. I'm ruling out any and all scholarships/special programs.

Yea as far as I kno, but I was just curious if anyone asked if HPers could go...or if it would even be appropriate to try.
I know at some other med schools they let ppl on the high part of the waitlist attend, but seeing as how our High Priority doesn't really mean much, I dunno....just hoping=)

Well, apparently at least some of the decisions were mailed out yesterday. I have been put on the second half of the list of 100 alternates. A sad day. It'll be tough to leave our home of thirteen years, but I was delighted that UCSF decided to let me get this far. It was an unexpected treat.

I hope to hear great news from the rest of you. And even if you don't, I hope you walk away with a positive impression of San Francisco and maybe we'll cross paths down the road.

I'm really bummed. I was pulling for you big time. Is being on the second half a done deal or do they ever get that far?

Thanks for everything you've put into this thread and all the San Francisco info you've passed along.
