I'm OOS for all of these schools (but hopefully gain in-state at UCSF and OSU after first year). No scholarships offered at any of the schools.

I'm from the northeast, but I'm not sure where I want to settle in the future. At this point, I have aspirations of specializing, but that may change.

Any advice on which program you think would be the best choice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Penn for specialization, otherwise whatever one feels best between OSU and UCSF.

I loved UCSF when I interviewed there. The Independent study time makes students seem a lot less stressed and I would go there if I got in. I don't know much about Ohio state but UPENN is expensive. I think UCSF would give the most for your $ and still have great opportunities for specializing. Just my opinion. Good luck with your decision!

Penn for specializing ANY day. Nothing beats going to an IVY league school if you want to specialize or are even thinking about it!

Go to UCSF, pay instate after a year and enjoy the sun while you're at it

Yes there can be fog, but NOT most of the months. But I rather see fog every once in a while in SF, rather than SMOG 24/7 in southern California

^this guys speaks the truth.

Go to Penn if you want to specialize, plain and simple. The other two are great options if you want to stay general.

no matter how passionate you are, things change when you want to decide on residency after the first semester/quarter of dental school. Sometimes it has nothing to do with the grades (smartest student in my class became a general dentist)

1.) (tie) UCSF - cheap enough that if you want to do general dentistry your loans dont hold you that back compared to privates, prestigious enough that with hard work you can make a residency

if you're from the West Coast and hate snow, go here

1.) (tie) OSU - cheap enough that if you want to do general dentistry your loans dont hold you that back compared to privates, compared to the other two on the list not as prestigious enough, but with hard work and persistence you can definitely make a residency

if you're from the East Coast/Midwest and love snow/unpredictable weather, go here

2.) Penn - definitely a good residency placement rate but a good number of students still become general dentists which leaves them with a lot of loans to pay off stuck with a general dentists salary (could always move to a very rural area/marry rich/FQHC to ease this problem)

Before you can specialize, you have to survive dental school. It is four grueling years. Pick the school that you would be happiest at and preferably cheapest. Get awesome grades and specializing shouldn't be too hard. Getting awesome grades will be hard.
