  1. Pre-Dental
Accepted at both recently, trying to narrow down. Curious to hear current student experiences in regards to : class dynamic, city life, helpfulness and quality of faculty, course structure, and most importantly clinical experience and overall confidence of skills gained in 4th year. Would love to hear thoughts from people who currently go to either school or have graduated from UDM or BU. Thanks.

UDM.

The only thing BU has over Detroit is the city. Everything else UDM is probably 44.67% better

how so? I've heard that the UDM clinical experience is better, but is it that much better than schools like BU?

Bu accepts 80 advanced standing students. So that makes around 400 3rd and 4th years in the clinic. The clinic has 80 chairs. I see issues with those numbers.

if you go to UDM i suggest not living in detroit but in one of the suburbs (I went to University of Michigan undergrad so I have some familiarity of michigan)

I think both are great schools! Do you want to specialize?

What were your stats?

fair enough, but after 1-2 years of experience in private practice, the boosted clinical experience from detroit won't really matter. Everyone is going to be levelled out depending on what you do for the first few years after graduation. My main concern is if BU is lacking any fundamental things that would actually set me back. Living in Boston is probably going to be cooler than Detroit, but if the Detroit experience is WAY better along with enough things to do in the city, and a great class dynamic, I might pick it over boston. Otherwise I'm not sure

Boston is a cool city. I wasn't a fan of the area where the school was, it seemed a bit cramped. Then again I come from a small city in south Florida. Your BU experience will be fine, but IMO I would pick UDM on the basis of what info I have seen floating around regarding BU

appreciate the feedback, thank you!
Any former students from either school who come across this thread, let me know about your experiences if you can!

they are both pretty expensive, with living in boston being a bit more expensive. But not that much more overall cost, that's why I'm looking for other information.

If you wanna do research/specialize Boston has all the resources. If you wanna do General dentistry and have a complex patient pool, UDM. Both have pretty much the exact class size. Boston is a little less but the difference is negligible. BU is a top NIH research and has all the specialities, while UDM has the complex patients and slightly lower cost of living. So I just think you need to probe deeper into your interests if cost and basic features are all same.
