Hi,

I have a few Cs on my transcript, and will be staying at my soon to be alma mater for a masters degree before applying to med. I have the option to take ugrad classes while completing my masters, and would like some opinions on whether or not to. It would raise my cGPA from 3.08 to 3.42, though i havent calculated how they would affect my sGPA. The main issue is that the masters coursework is all upper level biochem/cellular biology (so when i pull A's it would look good) and 2 of the courses I messed up in are genetics and cell bio in ugrad. Any advice would be great. Also 38 on the MCAT if that means anything for my question. Thank you!

i'm pretty sure from what others have said, they have to be all undergrad retakes.....

Masters is just icing on the cake if i'm not mistaken

just my 2 cents

Thanks for the reply!

So the higher level courses like Advanced Molecular Biology (ugh) are part of the curriculum that I have to complete to get the masters, which I will be starting in September. If I have time to retake the other courses during my masters, should I (in your opinion)?

if it doesn't hurt your undergrad gpa, i don't see why not

ok thank you for the advice. In terms of GPA calculations, how will it be counted, as post bacc or as just part of my cumulative or what? They will be the same courses I didnt do well in, retaken at the same university.

The MCAT of 38 definitely means something!!! If you can indeed get your GPA up to 3.4 or higher, you'll be quite competitive.

That said, keep in mind that retakes only eliminate the lower grades from AACOMAS purposes; MD schools will count all grades. The MS genetics and MoBio aren't weighted any more just because they're MS classes. An A in a re-take Bio 1 and an A in genetics 600 will still be worth an A.

Suggest take whatever boosts your GPA the nest.
