i have already applied for fasfa 2007-2008 and i wait to apply for the next one 2008-2009; i think the federal loan is the best option; they have some very good points that privat loans don't have; the rate is lower, there are
they are waiting 6 mos after you finish and only than you'll pay the rates, you can choose not to pay interest during the school and there is a small part of the loan, subsidized loan for which you don't pay interest(about $8,000 per semester)
regarding housing, UIC is located in the south part of the city which is not, let's say, a wonderful neighborhood; you should consider the housing that UIC offers or you can look for rentals in the north side of the city; the down side is that you'll increase your commute time and time is really important; you can also consider staying in Downtown area which is pretty close to UIC and is a nice area😉

Hello to all, The above is very good info by starry. Thanks to her. I would also look into a company called apartment people, who provide service of showing you apartments. If anyone knows about how UIC housing is for students that are in graduate programs, because other dorms might be too croweded and may be hard to find study time there, please let me know. Otherwise, I guess it might be better to stay in an aprtment with a roomate? What do you think about this starry?, because you know a lot about this.

As for loans, I spoke to our class' financial aid advisor. As for FAFSA, They informed me that if you qualify for grants, you dont have to pay these back. If you qualify for subsidize loans then you dont pay any interest or owe any money until 6 month after graduation. And finally if you get Un-subsidize loans the current interest rate is 6.8%, which in my opinion is a killer.

here are 2 websites related to student loans from citibank and chase...i guess all banks have something similar...so the 6.8% is pretty common....but you can check it out in more detail👍

as far as i remember from Jill, she said that those that opt for in campus housing won't be in the same dorms as regular dds students(the 4 year program), but in the graduate section; i think she said " less parties and noise"😉

sorry dentalbug, i don't have a clue about which is better in campus housing or sharing apt...even in my univ years i stayed home😀..few parties for me😎

oh, and when i applied for fafsa they told me that i don't qualify for a grant, so only loans for us....

that's a question for Jill, i guess😉...all i can say is that the closer you're from downtown the harder is to find a parking spot...chicago is pretty crowded😎..same on all "the lake view" areas...we paid $100/mos for a parking place because it's not funny not to have a parking place when is snowing and the temp is below 0 degree(F not C)....welcome to the 'windy city'😀

i wrote Jill an email asking her about the check and she answered quickly; if i remember correctly, they cashed the money only 5 or 6 weeks later...so, don't worry..maybe it takes more time right now with all the decisions they have to take these days....
oh, and i sent the check with delivery confim. , so i knew when the check arrived at UIC...just wanted to be sure that everything is ok with the check, that's why i wrote the email to Jill....

i think that if something were wrong Jill would have called you, so probably everything is fine , but she's busy....try and call her around 4-4.30 pm or 9-915am, maybe you have more luck😉...

seeing this i don't think it's a good neighborhood, but still it's pretty close to the UIC..so you should be saving time...careful not to travel at night, probably...take care the post says "utilities not included", chicago can be quite cold in the winter..bottom line ask the landlord about the heating, if it is on electric or gas...$1,000 is quite a sum and with heating and electric bill...talk to the landlord and try to find some more..maybe aprox the electric bill or gas bill from the last tenants....

• FAFSA on the Web and Renewal FAFSA on the Web applications must be submitted by midnight Central Daylight time, June 30, 2008.
• Corrections on the Web forms must be submitted by midnight Central Daylight time, September 15, 2008.

i don't think so.... manish, why don't you call Jill and ask her about your status? i remember from the last year thread about UIC that it was a way ( calling Jill) of finding they were in...try and call her, see what she has to say....

the 4 year marksheet is the transcript/s, so if you have them translated as well, then it should be ok🙂 i sent them the Romanian certification of the documents and these days the English certified translation should reach them...but Jill didn't say anything yet, so i guess they are not there yet

i got into uic.
i was a reapplicant, and was interviewed in august.
they have made their decision on 26th of this month. i got a call on 27th.
you can call jill and know your status
