Congrats to all my new classmates! 😀 I just got my site assignment letter today - Chicago. Woo! Makes me hate the USPS, though. Letter was dated 12/18, postmarked 12/18, and not delivered until 12/24. *eyeroll* Ah well, wasn't a bad Christmas present this morning!
Ha, you even turned it in yourself. And you just got the site assignment. I mailed it a couple days after you and got my site assignment close to a week ago. It's a combo of UIC and USPS.

OK, so the office doesn't reopen until January 2nd...I usually next day mail things to them to ensure someone signs off on it/doesn't get lost in the mail...but I can't really send my preference card tomorrow, even if I send it regular snail mail...it'll get there to an empty office...suggestions? Next day mail it Jan 2nd?

any recent peoria interviewees get a status change/acceptance letter? I interviewed there on 12/11 and they said they might review our files for the december meeting. I'm trying to figure out whether or not I should start worrying. THANKS!

Next day mail it Jan 2nd?

Or send it tomorrow regular mail. Either way. The Chicago campus isn't full yet, and someone earlier in this thread indicated that Dr. Girotti (or another dean) said it won't be for awhile.

Yeah, that's ridiculous. Dropped it off on 12/10 and they didn't get around to it until 12/18. Oh well, it all worked out. 🙂

how can we be certain when exactly the office is open during the holidays? Not open until Jan 2nd?

hey LBJ23

I interviewed in Peoria on 12/11 too =)

i was wondering the same thing, if we were reviewed or not...

It looks like most of the status changes were from people that interviewed the first week of dec......

Is yours at decision pending? <----- mine is

I interviewed on 12/5, and I received the "a final decision has been made" message on 12/21. I can't wait for my acceptance letter!! I'm guessing you 12/11 interviewees will be reviewed after new years, so I wouldn't worry too much, unless some 12/11 dude comes on here and says his status has changed...

I was in the PM session and they didn't give us a definite answer on our files being reviewed this month. I've been freaking out wondering whether or not we reached the committe for the dec. meeting! I'm still decision pending as well! Thanks for responding back dreamer84 🙂. I'm hoping we hear some good news next month :luck:.

There's a pretty big difference between interviewing at the Chicago campus and the Peoria campus, though. All files are reviewed in Chicago, so it's possible a file from Chicago on 12/13 would get reviewed and a file from Peoria on 12/11 would not.

anyone know when the office is open for sure? is it on their website (holiday schedule)?

If you are interviewing late at UIC (March) should you assume you are doing so for a waitlist spot or will there still be seats open. Just wondering if anyone knows anything or has previous experience with this. Thanks.

From what I've heard, there are still spots in the spring, but all the Chicago spots are usually filled by the end of January

March is pretty darn late, and I bet the admissions will have tightened up significantly by then, but last year they made the point that those who interviewed at that time were still interviewing for acceptances.

Though League was right--you're two and a half long shots from getting the Chicago campus.

I am sure that the office is closed...no one is picking up/I get the voicemail every time I call. Plus, I asked two people in the office the week before it closed and they said they'll be back on the 2nd...I'm still apprehensive about sending my stuff out..I'd hate to let it sit about the empty office! Any thought s on this? It says I need it to them by Jan 7th...does that just mean to the office..or processed by Jan 7th?!

Just send the letter and follow-up on January 2nd/3rd.

I interviewed 12/11 and my status changed to final decision maade on 12/22.

chickenlittle84,
did u have your interview in Chicago or Peoria on 12/11?

thanks!

so here's a question. i obviously want chicago as my first choice, but how should i rate my choices for the remaining 3 campuses? what do you guys like most about peoria, rockford, and urbana-champagne? i didn't like peoria that much, aside from the essentially free housing cost. can you have fun in rockford and urbana-champagne?

Rockford isn't a big leap from the northwest suburbs or even Chicago. Peoria is pretty remote and not exactly known for it's buzzing nightlife. Urbana-Champaign is where the "main" U of I undergrad campus is located; there's certain to be lots to do there. 🙂

i'm in and will likely be matriculating! hello to my future classmates!

My two cents from earlier in the thread. My guess is that the Chicago campus has yet to fill, however, so I wouldn't fret too much.

Here's the schpiel on the non-Chicago campuses that I learned when interviewing in Rockford at the end of last February (because I was interviewing at one and because it was so late in the year they really gave us an idea of what they were).

Champaign--First off, everybody in the non-Chicago campuses spends their first year here and then 50ish go to Rockford and 50ish go to Peoria for M2,3,4. The remainder in UIUC is pretty small--like 25 people I think. One unique thing about the Champaign program is it's where the MD/PhD students go, so I think that makes up a big contingent. There are still plain MD students there.

Rockford--Small class, small campus. The people I met there were very nice and enthusiastic about the campus. They have some student-house next to campus meant for studying and hanging out that was undergoing some renovations at the time so it was supposedly going to be sweet this year. Classes only run from 8-12 so I think that's the biggest difference--it's more studying on your own than Peoria.

Peoria- I haven't seen the campus or met the people. There's two things I know about this campus. Its classes run like all day from 8-5, and its match results are almost always the highest as far as matching first choice percentage of any campus (including Chicago).

Some additions:

Champaign: Like Zip said, it's got the huge undergrad population and a HELL of a college bar scene, growing football team, and traditionally decent basketball team.

Rockford: Not as accessible to Chicago as was implied above. Still driveable but I'm skeptical these students go to Chicago more than once or twice a semester.

...My personal preferences would be Chicago, Rockford, Peoria, Champaign...I'd see the ugrad campus of champaign as a distraction and wouldn't want to take class from 8-5 my 2nd year like in Peoria. I also have family in the Chicago suburbs.

my preference will be chicago, urbana (i think i'll enjoy partying up until my 60's), rockford, peoria.

Zipmedic, did you turn in the preference card and other docs yourself? I'm thinking about doing that myself? Did the office staff seem totally ok with the applicant just dropping it off? Thanks!

i interviewed on 12/19...anyone's status change yet from "evaluation not complete"?

im getting concerned it hasnt changed, even though they said we'd only hear back at the end of January

That's totally irrational. Relax.

The office staff was very pleasant. The woman behind the desk congratulated me on my acceptance and asked me to wait so she could open it & verify everything was inside. Once that was done, I was on my way. A very nice visit. 🙂

Happy New Year everyone!

Does anybody know when the January adcom meeting will be? My status just changed from "Evaluation not complete" to "Decision Pending" and I'm getting excited!!!

I interviewed 12/19 in Chicago, and absolutely loved the school. 🙂

anyone know how years 1 and 2 at UIC are graded? Is it P/F, Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail, or letter graded?

Helpful as usual phoenix. Thank you for the link 🙂

hi everyone i have an interview on January 18th at UIC....does anyone know when that'll be reviewed by the committee? I'm not sure if anyone will know or not but if anyone does....will i find out about my status before February starts?

The admissions committee typically meets on the third Thursday of each month which, in your case, is the day before your interview. 🙁 It looks like you may not hear anything until possibly early March. Of course, we may all be surprised and you could be reviewed at a special meeting, or they could postpone the meeting on the 17th. In any event, good luck!

There's 5 Thursdays in January so I'm not so sure it will be the 17th.

tnx for the help!! i appreciate the input, i guess i'll just have to wait and see what they say on interview day! they do tell us when we'll be reviewed on interview day right?

Quick question for any accepted (or current students):

When I submitted my application, I gave them three course descriptions of classes that I thought would count as my psych/sociology courses. My understanding is that someone was to check what I took to see if they were acceptable, and if I needed to take the courses before I matriculate, they would let me know.

I didn't receive any information in my acceptance packet. Will I get something in the future concerning these pre-reqs or should I assume I'm alright?

Which is probably why I said it could be different.

Just giving some form of reason to your words of encouragement other than your "Oh! You never know, though!" For example, last year in March 2007 there were 5 Thursdays, and they reviewed on the 22nd.

Is this at UIC or in Rockford? The RMED interviews are the 17th and 18th. At the very least, you'll find out at your interview when the committee meets!

I also have my interview on the 17th 😉 :luck:

I haven't really been accepted but from what i've heard, if they think your pre-reqs are fine then you wont hear anything about it. If they DONT, then i think you are supposed to either get a call or an email from them regarding the matter. THen its a matter of convincing them on the phone that what you think is right, or may be talk to your professor and get some sort of letter from him. I already did that for one of my classes. So if it comes up..i can just give them the letter. Hopefully you'll be fine though..best of luck to you!

I have an interview in Feb and I was wondering if you guys found anything on the website that helped out. The four different campuses having different websites is kind of confusing. Should we know details about each for the interview or just about the campus you are interviewing at? Any other help would be appreciated. Good luck to everyone!

I interviewed at Rockford on Dec 5 and was accepted 3 weeks later. It was my first group interview, which was a little weird because I didn't feel like it flowed as well as one-on-one conversations, but in the end everything turned out ok. I didn't prepare for this interview any differently than for other ones...just look at the website for the site where you're interviewing and try to find out a little about it. However, I wasn't asked anything about the school during my interview except that if I got accepted, would I choose the Rockford campus and also, why do I want to go to Illinois if I'm from MA. But nothing about why I want to go to UIC or what makes it different or appealing to me. The questions were pretty regular and low stress - why I want to be a doctor, problems with healthcare, future problems in medicine, what qualities the doctor needs to have, etc. Nothing to stress about, you'll do fine.

eagle34,

are you, by any chance, of ukrainian descent?
