It is, actually (and the only acceptance thus far...RELIEF). My sister lives about 20 minutes or so from downtown Chicago, so the Chicago track is my preference. If you do wind up in Chi town, I'll definitely see you there, however, I imagine Tufts is your first choice? Congrats on your acceptance!

Thanks! I have a couple of top choices, such as Tufts and Georgetown, so we'll see when I finally hear back from them. But I heard very good things about UIC Chicago campus and my best friend is going to be working in Chicago so my possibility of ending up there is definitely above average,

Hey everyone,

I FINALLY got the status change page to schedule an interview and I am so excited! This is one of my top choices since my boyfriend is a M2 in Peoria. Strange thing to note is that on the page it shows no openings for interviews. I just called the office and the woman on the phone asked if I could call back tomorrow morning to schedule. Anyone had this problem or know why the interview page would show no available interview slots? Thanks!

When I scheduled an interview online, it was only a few slots available...someone else posted here that they had the same problem, but I dont know what they did...But if they told you to schedule an interview, I'm sure they'll fit you in somewhere. They don't just give out interviews if they don't have any more slots.

That's strange 'cos I also had the status page change this morning. There were some interview slots open then. However, I couldn't schedule it online. But I called the admissions office sometime around 1pm and scheduled my interview for early March. Good luck.

i am absolutely fuming right now, i got home after work and my site preference response letter had arrived in the mail. I open it to see that I have been assigned to ROCKFORD!!! WTF?!!?! i've lived in chicago, within the city limits mind you, not the suburbs for my entire life, and they want to send me to Rockford now? Is it that the Chicago campus has already filled up or do they think that i actually want to go to Rockford? I'm not hating on Rockford or anything, I'm sure some people would be happy to go there, but there is absolutely no way that I will go there, or Peoria for that matter. Does anyone know if there is a way to dispute this? My life is in Chicago, this is my home, this is terrible news, i really wanted to go to UIC, now i just feel sick.

barto - i feel your pain.

i just got placed in peoria even though chicago was my first choice. I too have lived in chicago my whole life and I am not going to move!! When i got my placement today, at first i was in shock, then i was really sad, and now im just bitter...

anyone know if it is possible to appeal the decision??

Until now I was debating between Rush and UIC... and now UIC just made that decision for me.

barto, when were you accepted and when did you send it your preference card?

I did not receive my first location choice either.

...Im still waiting to see if I get an interview.. my status has been changed for about 3 weeks now to "Applicant in Process" blah!

I got my placement today too.. looks like I snatched up one of the last Chicago campus spots...for those who got other choices, I wouldn't worry just yet more Chicago spots are sure to open up as people start to withdraw.

I unfortunately got my preference response today. Yeah, UPR...not my first choice.

Does anyone know the stats of ppl getting a site switch with a good argument? I've heard it's been done before...and I thought seeing that it's so early in the season...there's hope.

Eagle and Fashionista-- what the heck?! i thought Chicago didn't fill until like Feb?! I even turned it in in person as soon as the office reopened on Jan 2nd!!

barto, when were you accepted and when did you send it your preference card?

interview 12/5, accepted 12/27, sent preference card 12/28, received notice of rockford 1/7

im calling tomorrow and seeing what i can do about this, but i have a feeling they get these complaints all the time, and they may just say tough luck. anyhow, if i cant get the chicago campus, i cant go to uic, forunately i have other choices, but UIC was my top choice by far. this is really depressing

I have the same stats as you Barto...If you come up with a good argument you might be able to snag a spot. Apparently writing a four page letter didn't work. haha. So perhaps a phone call would be more...direct?! I'm trying that too.

As hard as it is, I wouldn't stress too much. Spots will definitely open up as people accept offers higher on their lists. They'll go back and fill the newly open Chicago spots in chronological order by receipt of the preference cards. Since someone in this acceptance group still got a Chicago spot, it looks like the rest of you will be in prime position to snag one when they open. 🙂

This may have been asked, and of course I'm sorry for that, but I thought it doesnt hurt to try because this is my main concern. 🙄

Could someone tell me if they know about the sociology/anthropology pre-req? They want 2 psychology and 1 of "another behavioral science such as sociology or anthropology."

So does that one req have to be one of those two specific classes? I have 6 psychology classes because I love it and a few of them, my advisor told me, should be considered as good to go, but I think that they tell you exactly what they want as the req, meaning either sociology or anthropology, because when I called a loooong time ago someone said they are strict on it being one of those two now. But then my advisor said no no it'll be fine, and of course UIC knows better then my advisor, but she was pretty certain.

In that case, if I am fortunate enough to be accepted, I guess it would be "on the condition that this is filled...." and I'd have to take it. Or I could just take it now starting next week in Jan, but I don't even know if I am in there yet.

🙁

you guys are freaking me out! i sent back my card on the 26th of december ranking chicago first. i still haven't gotten my preference back yet. me=scared

ok. i just called the admissions office to ask another question. the lady on the phone said that if you don't get your first choice, you have to write a letter to the admissions committee stating your reasons for a switch. they don't make any decisions about that until may 15th. they don't guarantee anything of course, and decisions are NOT based on when you were accepted.

Interesting. This is exactly the opposite of what they told me when I was in limbo and called nervously. Thanks for checking!

I think what they're saying is that once you've been assigned to a campus, subsequent decisions of who to switch where are not made based on acceptance dates, but rather what you write in your letter. I've heard that elsewhere as well.

Initial campus assignments are made based on acceptance date.

Right, that's not what I was told. After a brief search, though, it appears this is the prevailing opinion (not by acceptance date).

Well, perhaps you looked like you were going to tear your hair out and they figured you'd get the Chicago campus anyway, so why not tell you something soothing you'd like to hear? 😛

yeah i called too. also noteworthy is that you will not know if you have been switched until AFTER you commit to UIC. meaning that you will have to commit to UIC before you know if you've been switched from rockford or peoria to chicago.

ahhhhhhhh the chicago slots are already filled up???????

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

😡

well i guess i'll have to also get on that waiting list and make my argument for trying to get into chicago campus! *sigh* i wish i had gotten an earlier interview but something is better than nothing so i'm not complaining...

now all i can do is hope....

No one said they're filled up yet. Where are you getting that from? Did you call?

im SURE this is out here somewhere, but the status check thread didnt have quite what i was looking for---whats the best number to call to make sure they received my app?

Um, I just called and the woman said Chicago is filled. 🙁
Main # to call is 312-996-5635

this sucks... i got rockford. chicago was my first choice, second was champagne, and i got my third choice. well at least i didn't get peoria, i would have died with those 8-5 classes.

so here is a question for everyone. Hopefully someone knows the answer. So now that chicago spots are full. Say someone drop out form uic because they got accepted at another school that was a higher choice, now if they picked chicago....does that spot stay open for anyone who wants to declare they want chicago campus? or is it only open to those who have already chosen chicago campus and its their first choice?

see above. basically chicago is full. if people drop out in the future, the admissions committee will consider letters from accepted students placed at other campuses stating the reasons why they want to be in chicago. from those letters, people will be chosen to fill in the chicago spots. it is not based on when you were accepted, but rather what your reasons are. the decisions to switch campuses are made after may 15th (after you solidly declare you are going to UIC).

so i'm going to assume that champaign is filled as well! because someone who put champaign as their second choice didn't get it, they got their 3rd choice, can anyone shed any light on this? or is it just a rumor for now? started by me....

do you think that they may put you in a certain campus based on a certain personality "fit" while also taking into account your preferences?

SDN....brewing random rumors since 1998....

but on a serious note, i'm not sure how they'd do that, they use your interview information to give you some sort of numerical score i think, i'm not sure how they'd know your preference through a score, and why would one's expressed interest in a campus be different in an interview and in the campus selection card?

lol. you are right. i guess i just thought it would be a neat way of doing things. 😛

for the chicago bound, anybody remember when we should apply for graduate housing?

I've heard you only get the 4-year Champaign assignment if you are in the MD/PhD program or if you have a spouse in a UIUC grad school program.

^^about housing. No worries there are TONS of open spots in SAA still even right now and its the middle of the year. I mean, many people that have rooms this year, do not have roommates or there are rooms not filled.

received a UIC interview invite today. only 2 days are free (3/12 and 3/18).

dunno if it's worth going with that OOS tuition.

I got my site assignment today...Peoria...my third choice. I guess both Chicago and Urbana are filled. However, I'm OOS and with my acceptance to BU, it looks like someone may grab my UIC spot...

wow...so few dates left--prob really bad news for me--i was wondering if you could tell me how they notify--as i lost my log-in to access the status page..also do you mind saying when you were complete??

thanks and congrats!!

i found out by checking the login page. status went from "application" to "applicant" and after about 3 weeks "applicant" became a list of available dates to interview. 👍

thanks go lakers! i should prob work on finding my login stufffffs =)

Well, I checked. Ive been an "applicant in process" for FIVE weeks now 🙁 .. Im going to call again tomorrow, they never even called me back when I left a message before.

Yeah I would just call on thursdays (that they're open) periodically until you get an answer. They don't ever seem to return messages.

any news on when the adcom is meeting this month?? Been waiting to hear back post-interview for a month now, don't know how much more i can take, this is getting brutal 😱...

does anyone know how often tests and and quizzes and given during the first year at urbana-champaign, and during the next 3 at rockford? if you do, do you also know how this compares to the other campuses?
