im surprised we're the only two worrying..or at least just showing it. When did you interview?

no status change here.... work has been keeping me busy this morning, but now i'm starting to get anxious again!

i also wonder if they actually met yesterday... but then again, the admissions counselor said my file has already been reviewed, so it seems that they "met" this week. 😕

hope we here good news soon!:luck:

i interviewed on 12/11 in peoria but missed the adcom meeting last month. I've been waiting to hear back for quite some time now, i don't know if i can take another week of this 😱

The only campus I can attend is the Chicago and I don't interview until next week.

Anyone know if it's possible to petition for the Chicago campus and get an answer before May 15th?

If I were to get accepted I would pick UIC over my other acceptance but I cannot afford to give up the other acceptance with the possibility of finding out after May 15th that I will not be given a spot in Chicago. That would leave me with no where to go.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Anyone ever petitioned for a specific campus and find out earlier?

My understanding is that you have to commit to UIC, then they tell you after May 15 if you got the petition request. You should ask the med students at your interview.

good question, i'm thinking the same thing, ill give them a call to and see what they say.

I just called and the woman in the admissions office made it 100% clear to me that the admissions committee will NOT review letters of petition for a campus change until after May 15th. She also iterated that you MUST commit to UIC without knowing if your campus change request was accepted.

UIC says they consider petitions after May 15th. I think that's pretty unfair, but it's what they said. Space at Chicago should open up as the year moves on -- especially after May 15th -- so there's still plenty of hope. It'll just feel like a gamble.

i'm waiting on a status page change, too. i interviewed on 12/19. nothing on my end. are we sure that they met this week? i'm getting anxious.

why can u only attend Chicago? Is ur other acceptance close to Chicago too?

Hey guys, sorry but this is the first time I got to my computer today. I was told today the adcom meeting will be next week. Today's interviews at Chicago will be included. Sorry the rest of you have to wait but I must admit I'm happy about the result.

after a whole two days of checking the status page every 3 seconds and seeing nothing but "decision pending," every time believing that you're one step closer to the post-interview hold... well, i'd say that news is pretty refreshing.

phew... one more week of waiting 🙄

Yes my other acceptance is in the Chicago area. I own a home in the area, my husband's job is in the area, and I have 2 kids. There is no way I would be able to sell my home without taking a huge loss which we could not afford. Additionally, I am not willing to put my kids through the stress of relocating.

which one of the ppl at the interview were you? how'd u think you did on your interviews? personally i dont think it could have gone better! well lets hope and wait for good news next weekend!! 😀😀

Bond- I saw your post and ironically felt relieved that the adcom meeting is next week. Everyone, sorry I made you all (and me) freak out! I hope the interviews went well for everyone and that you were able to stay warm. It was brutally cold in Chicago today! How did everyone like the interview day though?

Anyways, see you all for next week's anxiety-due-to-adcom-meeting session...

interview day went well. couldn't pick you out which made me think you weren't in my session (let's leave who each other were and when we interviewed at that). I'm glad people were relieved by my news...we can all freak out together next friday.

damn im disappointed. ive been waiting for a while...

thanx for the info. bond, very helpful as usual 👍...till next week everyone, GOOD LUCK :luck:

By the way. For those lamenting being assigned to the Peoria and Rockford campuses, I asked a little about them yesterday. According to a student, some of the clinical experience at those sites can be just as amazing as Chicago. For example, there aren't nearly as many medical residents at Rockford or Peoria hospitals and so you often are able to work directly with an attending. A friend of his scrubbed in as the 2nd in a surgery--it was the surgeon... and then him. It seems you don't really get the spectrum of experience you might get at Chicago, but you get more hands-on experience.

thats pretty cool...was that medstudent able to assist with any procedures??. i just wish they'd show us more about the peoria, rockford and urbana campuses during the interview process in chicago...cuz theres a lot of info on each of the campus' websites, but not enough pictures. i guess i wanna know more about what the surrounding area will feel like.

that aside, any campus i get assigned to, i will attend uic for sure if i get in, so i wont be lamenting :-D

hey i just wanted to clarify with everyone..so its the general consensus that if "a decision has been made on XX-XX-XXXX" comes up then you are acceptead, but what shows up if you aren't accepted?? also is it possible that the decision could also be a rejection??

It will remain decision pending.

A change to the message before June has never meant a rejection in the 2 seasons I've applied and the admissions office has said they're not rejecting anybody yet.

how likely is it to get into the chicago campus if im interviewing late next month. i heard it is already full but do many people withdraw as we near March?

Well during interview day, the staff was reluctant to say that chicago was full, rather they made clear that they are now assigning more people to rockford and peoria...I'm pretty sure its full, but they also said that when you submit your campus selection card and when she gets to your card, a chicago slot opens up and its your first choice, then you'll get it!

otherwise write a petition letter which will be reviewed after may 15th, and they have to be SUPER convincing or you might as well not write one

It will remain decision pending.

they meet tomorrow!!!!! 😱

Hey all!

I was recently offered an interview to UIC and I have two questions.

1) Upon hearing of one's acceptance, do you also hear about which campus you will be going to?

2) I have heard that if you are at the Chicago campus, you MUST (or most likely will)l not remain there for the duration of your rotations/yr 3 and 4. Is this true?

I am asking because, like the poster above, if I were to go to UIC, I must stay in the Chicago area. Thanks!

Someone's probably already addressed this, but how soon afterwards do we expect the status pages will change?

Give it a day or two. Good luck!

1) Upon hearing of one's acceptance, do you also hear about which campus you will be going to?

No. You'll receive an acceptance letter with a packet of other information. In that packet will be a form indicating you accept/do not accept the offer, a Site Assignment Card, a formal a checklist of required psychomotor skills (you just sign that you can do all the stuff, with or without reasonable accommodation). Once you submit all that with your $100 deposit, they'll mail you your site assignment in about 7-10 days.

2) I have heard that if you are at the Chicago campus, you MUST (or most likely will)l not remain there for the duration of your rotations/yr 3 and 4. Is this true?

If you are assigned to Chicago, you're assigned there for M1-M4. The only time you'd be outside the greater Chicagoland area would be if you set up an away rotation on your own. Otherwise, you'll stay in the area.

i know the meeting isn't even until tomorrow but i keep checking my status...i've gone mad...

At interview day yesterday, Dean Girotti said that they try to make as many campus re-assignments based on petitions prior to the May 15th date.

Did I hear this correctly?

Also, he said the Chicago campus is not completely full yet but he excepts that those that get accepted based on today's meeting will fill up the remainder of the available Chicago seat.

For those of you that have been accepted and filled in campus preference cards, is it as simple as filling in 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice? Or is there somewhere to document reasons for needing a specific campus as well? I'm asking because I can only go to UIC if I get assigned to the Chicago campus, but it looks like the campus will definitely be full before I get my acceptance...assuming I get accepted.

hmmmm thats quite odd considering everythign everyone else has heard suggests that no re assignments are made until may 15th....thats very very odd! but who knows...i mean girotti said it...also does anyone know if they are still not rejecting anyone post interview?...because a status change to "decision made on _________" could also mean a decision to reject has been made, but if they are not rejecting anyone post interview, we can be confident that that status change is an acceptance...just a thought, anyone have anything else to pitch in?? how long does it take after the status change to get the mail usually..assuming its an acceptance....suddenly everything seems so much more complicated!

Whether or not there are still spots at Chicago, I wouldn't know. Dr. Girotti is indeed the Director of Admissions, but he's also not the one managing all of the site assignment cards, either. It seems to me Chicago is probably full - other acceptees have been given their second or third choices. ...unless they're intentionally holding Chicago spots for later acceptees. (Which would be contrary to what they've told everyone -- that it's first come, first served.)

KCT15, the site assignment card is very simple. You pick whether you want Chicago for M1-M4 or Urbana for M1. Then, on the other half of the card, you pick which UPR site you want for M2-M4, all ordered by preference. There is no place to provide reasons or explanations. I suppose you could try including a letter, but if Chicago's full, it's full. There should be some moderate to significant movement of campus assignments as people withdraw, though.

NdFrSpd, it took about a week to get the packet after the status change. If you're not accepted, the status page should remain at "Decision Pending" until you receive a rejection letter. As Bond indicated earlier, everyone who received the "A final decision was made on..." was accepted for at least the past two cycles. I don't know if they're still waitlisting everyone who doesn't get a direct acceptance. There's plenty of time for movement, so I'd imagine they probably still are. Good luck!

Perhaps the openings at the Chicago campus are from people withdrawing? I don't know. Both Dean Girotti and one of the admissions people indicated that Chicago still have a few openings, but not many.

I'll just have to figure it all out if I do get accepted.

Good Karma to everybody being reviewed today :luck:

My status says decision pending! Does this mean I'm not in? or is there some hope since they're probably still in the meeting? What's everyone else's status?

status changes most likely won't be updated until tomorrow, at least that's how it's been for the last few cycles so hang in there!!

In general, people, let's try to read at least some of the rest of the thread before asking a question.

Is anybody else out there in Decision Pending limbo? I interviewed a couple months ago with pretty decent stats and have yet to receive any love from them. The interviews seemed to go well, but who knows!

If I were you, I'd give them a call and ask. If they can't tell you anything, then I'm guessing it means it's a waitlist or rejection.

Didn't you get into Loyola, mouse? How would you compare Loyola to UIC?

Also, it seems odd to me that as an IL resident you'd get into Loyola and not UIC (which has a much bigger class and takes many instaters), but weirder things have happened (also, I don't recall if you're an IL resident). I was just talking to a guy who got an interview at Northwestern, but a flat-out pre-interview rejection from UIC - AND he's an IL resident. Go figure.

I have been fortunate enough to be accepted to Loyola, and I absolutely love that school. I liked the facilities and vibe there better than UIC, but I keep hearing that UIC has much better clinical opportunities. Also, the in-state tuition would be a huge benefit. I'm a bit baffled that I got into Indiana as an out of stater, but am being put off by my own state school. I guess this falls into the whole crapshoot category of medical admissions. At least that's what I'm telling myself 🙂

Which school are you favoring at this point? I think I saw on other posts that you also waiting to hear from Rush? I've been complete there since August and haven't heard a peep. I was interested in checking out Rush, because I feel that is one of those schools you just don't get too much word of mouth about.

Anyway, good luck to everyone waiting to hear good news tomorrow!

don't freak about the decision pending yet. As people posted above, it probably won't cahnge till tomorrow or the day after. But as soon as someones status changes, please post it here so we can all go check our own statuses and consequently overload the system LOL.

Just an FYI, but are you aware that the posted UIC tuition amount is only for the first year? It jumps up by about $7,000-8,000 for subsequent years (because classes run into the summer). So when you compare, it's not as big of a difference as it first appears financially. But I agree with you on the clinical side of things. Wish Loyola did regular rotations through Cook County too.

Which school are you favoring at this point?

MAYO. But since I probably won't get in, Loyola.

I've been complete since August at Rush too, and nada. I've heard they do give out late interviews, but I'm not banking on one. As for what I've heard - the Rush med students I've spoken to love their school. However, it does follow a traditional curriculum, and I know I prefer Loyola's. I've also heard that the class is skewed a little younger, and has more of a party vibe. That's neither here nor there - just throwing it out there. From what I've heard, I think I'd like Loyola's atmosphere, mission and more age-balanced (non-trad) class. I LOVE the location and clinical experience of Rush. But then there's also the fact that it's one of the most expensive schools as well - around $44,000 (like GWU and Tulane). If I got an interview, I'd definitely go. But I'm just focusing on sending manipulative brain waves to Mayo's adcom these days.

Anyway, good luck to you, and to those waiting for their status changes!

Doesn't Loyola's tuition jump up when you're there for a full year (summer as well) as well? Or is that more of a state school thing? I know that Indiana did the same thing as UIC where you're charged more for when you're there during the summer.

I'd guess it does, but maybe Phoenix. or mouse have more info. I know it does at the osteo schools at which I was accepted. It was a 12-month tuition/budget instead of 9.

😱

Calling loyola's financial aid office now.

Whew. Loyola's tuition is $37,700 for each of the four years (with an approx. max 3% increase each year). No misrepresentation there! 😛 I spoke to a woman in the financial aid office, because otherwise, the only info I could find was this:

http://www.meddean.luc.edu/admissions/factsheet.htm

Ok, so I double checked on UIC's site, and it appears that they only charge the surplus for the summer after MS2 and MS3. The 2007-2008 tuition is about $25,500, and the summers are each $9,344:

http://www.uic.edu/depts/mcam/finaid/pdf/2007-2008/2007_2008_COM_Student_Financial_Aid_Budgets.pdf

So, figuring four years, without the minor annual increases that occur at both UIC and Loyola, tuition would be:

UIC: $120,000
Loyola: $150,000

So, there is a $30,000 tuition difference. But it's not the $48,800 difference there appears to be if you don't know about the surplus summer charge.
