ahhh! i just got home from a super long day at work and saw my status change!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hopefully we get our acceptance packet soon, so we don't have to wonder anymore... congrats everyone! we should go out for drinks 😀 good luck to those still waiting :luck:

so about how long does it take to get these packets in the mail? will we see them like tuesday? wednesday perhaps?

it took me less than a week. the only thing important in it is the campus preference sheet. i'm pretty sure that chicago is full, but if you want it, it's worth the shot. i got placed in rockford (even though i requested chicago), but i'm pretty sure it's way better than peoria, imo.

Status change for me too! Congrats everyone- and goodluck to those still waiting for good news. There has to be a ton of genius pre-meds in Illinois who'll end up at Harvard or someplace and give up their UIC spot.

My status has been "decision pending" since my interview on Dec 11. I know thats bad news. Has anybody ever heard of someone having this status for months and then eventually getting in?

I don't know, but I'm just guessing: couldn't it be either a rejection or a waitlist? And if it's a waitlist, I imagine there's still a shot.

kghadjar, was your dec 11th interview in peoria?

i had mine also that date in peoria, and i was informed that we weren't reviewed in december.
We were supposed to be reviewed at the jan adcom meeting, but mine is still at decision pending too...

i have a bad feeling about our interview group...

yeah i'm also curious kghadjar, did anyone from this interview get a status change?? I'm finding it hard to believe that everyone from that group got waitlisted/rejected 😕...

could this mean that those of us who did get a status change could hear either way?..as in accept or reject?

So I have my interview at the Peoria campus on Tuesday. Anyone else who already interviewed at Peoria, what is the setup? Is it a 3 on 1 group interview?

could this mean that those of us who did get a status change could hear either way?..as in accept or reject?

Nope. I don't think that's what that could mean for the Chicago interviewees. Just means that it might work a little different for the Peoria peeps. Perhaps things move slower for them. Have others seen a delay in status change if they interviewed in Peoria and then later received the status change and an acceptance?

but they interviewed on december 11th in peoria, didnt get reviewed in december, so im sure they have plenty of time to ship those applications over to chicago to be reviewd for january adcom's meeting. Afterall, all the aplication decisions and reviews are made at chicago right?

Is there a chance of this happening, does anybody know? Yeah we need packets to come in so we stop doubting ourselves right?

What do you think Tensyle?

Is there a chance of this happening, does anybody know? Yeah we need packets to come in so we stop doubting ourselves right?

ah i honestly dont know what to think. all i can think about is that my future has already been decided by the uic adcom, and whatever that future is, is already in the mail, probably on its way. All I know is that when I go out to the mailbox on monday or tuesday, I can see myself jumping and screaming with joy more than seeing myself get upset and tearing up the letter.

So here's to hoping for good news. And I realized that throughout this career path that we have chosen, we are never going to stop worrying - once a pre-med, always a pre-med. If you really think about it, until today, we were all hoping for a status change, as opposed to our status still reading "decision pending". Now that we've got the status change, we now worry if this really is an acceptance. Then after our second year in medschool, we will worry about our step 1 score, then worry about graduating, then worry about getting our residency program of choice, then worry about the 80+ hours we're gonna have to work and whether or not we'll make it through. Then there's that continuous worry of paying off debts and loans, then once we finish residency, we worry about any fellowships we're applying for. After that, we worry about malpractice insurance, and so on.

If this application process has taught me anything, I'd say it has to be that we can only worry about what we can control. I had control during the interview, and while I filled out the amcas and secondaries. Now noone can change what size my envelope from UIC is gonna be. But, its gonna happen - we who got status changes will surely get an envelope in teh mail. And I guess we're all worried about its size - I guess size does matter hahahaha.

Anyway, to sum up this long post and to answer your "what do you think" question, I'll say that if I get in, I'll seriously be living a dream to get into this school and kicking off my career that way. However if I dont get in for whatever reason, I will attend CCOM @ Midwestern University (which is a fantastic institution) and will work equally as hard to be the best physician I possibly can be.

I've also realized that what you and me are worrying about today is whether or not we're gonna get into medschool in a few days. Theres millions out there who are worrying if they will continue to live to see past the next few days. Everyone's got their worries, but I think that only if we compare these worries can we make a difference. I say this because if we do get accepted, I've realized that only if we keep this difference in mind, we wont lose track of why we are gonna become physicians in the first place.
:luck: I hope each and everyone of you get into UIC cuz you seem like great people and i would be happy to study medicine alongside you and maybe one day save a life together!

👍 keep up the positivity!!!!!! 🙄

A long but good answer, haha, thanks positive person.

wow can i say that was a good post? your right...there is always something to worry about, and our fate is sealed in an envelope already, our worrying and posts are not going to change the outcome of the decision! so its all good...lets relax and stay positive!

Yep, it's a 3 on 1 interview. 2 physicians and 1 med student. Pretty low pressure, and it only lasts 30 minutes. The whole day lasted 2 hours, which was by far the shortest I've had. That said, I'm not the biggest fan of Peoria.

Thanks. Low pressure sounds good to me!

Thats a great answer

bump! any mail for anyone yet?? i hope its already been mailed out. im thinking about calling the uic office to see if they have already mailed out the decisions.

Yeah, has anyone from the Dec 11 interview at Peoria been accepted or had a status change?

Man, the immunization form is a PITA to get filled out. After I spoke with Garie in the office, he confirmed that simply listing dates for things like MMR and whatnot isn't enough -- they actually want titers drawn. Ugh!

Nothing for me yet. Did you get any info from the office?
I saw the Oct. 25 decisions in the Chicago area got their mail Oct. 29, so about 4 days, (including 1 Sunday!) between.
I'll post as soon as I get some mail!

I don't understand. What do you mean they want titers drawn?

I called the office and the lady wouldn't tell me anything helpful. She said I should wait two weeks at least to hear back the final decision in the mail. I offered to come in person for the final envelope but she said they wouldn't give me the decision in person. Only by snail mail. And she wouldn't tell me if they have mailed out the envelopes either. So I found out nothing LOL.

Soon, did you get any mail at all yet today?

i had the same thing, they want to test your blood. also, i had to update some stuff and have a TB test. it's totally worth making a doctors' appt. ASAP and just getting it all taken care of at once. maybe throw in a physical for good measure 😉

They draw a few tubes of your blood to actually test for immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, etc. I got a tetanus booster while I was in there, and am getting my meningitis vaccination tomorrow.

do u have to get all these tests done to be assigned to a campus? Or can u just get the tests done before matriculating?

The form is due in the admissions office (with copies of all of the appropriate lab reports) by July 2nd. No rush, unless you haven't had the Hep B vaccination, which is a three shot series. Then you should probably get going so you can have two of the three before it's due.

I'm glad I'm not waiting for that letter. I live in downtown Chicago and we usually get our mail from 4-5pm! Apparently we're last on a route. 😡 Just felt like sharing that cause it's really been irking me since I started the application cycle. Good luck guys - I hope it comes today for you! :luck:
