Hi everyone! I hope someone could help me out with these questions about UK medicine

1.how exactly is UK med system structured, I mean if I finish non-EU med university at what point can I "get in"?,
is it also called residency? what about 2 years before that?
2.what are more/less not competitive specialties , easier to find a position in?
3. how do I prepare for PLAB tests, what books?other resources?
by the way, do british students also take PLAB?
4.what other medical forums about UK medicine/practice exist out there on the internet?(like SDN?)
5. how to get "clinical attachment" - observership ??

thanks in advance...i'll appreciate any advice...

If you don't have an EU passport there is no point answering the questions as you wont get a job. If you do...

1. Are you saying you have finished med school? No it is not called residency. We all do 2 general years of 6 jobs before specialty training.
2. General practice is the least competitive field.
3. British students do not take the PLAB, it is essentially to prove you can speak English well enough I thought so why would we take it? No British student will know how to prepare for it.
4. There is new media medicine. It is mostly full of either 16 year olds thinking about applying in a few years or very junior med students so you are unlikely to find it that useful and will probably receive a lot of incorrect information on it. You are better off looking at the GMC site or Royal Colleges.
5. As far as I know most places don't offer it. Oxford do, there is application stuff either on their website or the John Radcliffe hospital website. I'm sure a few other places do offer it but UK students tend to go abroad for electives.

bambi, thanks so much,
I haven't finished my university yet, and don't have EU passport
what is the issue with it?

what are my chances in Ireland?

With the current rules you would find it incredibly difficult/impossible to get a job if you aren't an EU citizen.

Ireland is totally separate, no idea of the rules there.

Hello

I am 1) Non - EU citizen

2) with a degree in Medicine from an EU country & I am registered with the country from which I graduated as a health personnel

3) I am now married to a British citizen

Can I apply for registration with the GMC on recognition under directive 2005/36/EC without sitting for PLAB.
