Hey I interviewed on 9/19 and haven't heard back yet...anyone know what the story is on UMass sending stuff back?? i'm really anxious because I love that school...

Having gone through the process last year, I feel like if you interviewed already you'll probably here in a few weeks and probably by the end of the year. I know many people who interviewed later in the process (like November and on) and didn't hear back until April/May.

On my interview day they said it could take 2 wks, 2 months, or May before you hear anything. Point is, with UMass, be prepared to wait. It's incredibly frustrating but hang in there.
 
Worcester is quite possibly the dumpiest city I have ever been in, but I love that place. Good luck, I wish I were from MA so I could get in there.

Worcester is more of a town that outgrew itself into some butt ugly city. I lived about a mile away from the med school for 16 years and I can tell you that lake quinsig is not lined with anything close to mansions. There is a few small boat docks for people who like to row but no where on the Worcester side are there mansions.
 
I think it is time to make some bets. They haven't given out any acceptances (or at least from what I hear). Therefore I must assume that they will give out some exceptances before x-mas. And because I'm optomistic, I'm saying the give out some before thanksgiving. So only a few weeks. based solely on nothing
 
9/15 and nothing...

has anyone called? I have meant to for the last week, but everytime i forget or something comes up
 
Yeah i also interviewed in mid-september, someone had posted here earlier that they may not let us hear back for some time (perhaps beginning in late November?). Either way it sucks huh? No worries though, it doesn't look like we're just getting stood up 🙄
 
Some things never change with UMass and that's the wait.

I'm sure there are people who have already heard back (especially the early decision folks). One of the big reasons they take their time is that they're only allowed to offer acceptances to the first 100 or so students they want (due to Massachusetts law). People didn't even start getting formal waitlist letters until April or so last year, and one person got in the day before class started.

Given the school's reputation and cheap tuition, people who get in usually go, so that probably explains why the admissions committee takes their sweet time. But don't worry (impossible, I know), a lot of my current classmates got off the waitlist.

Hang in there guys. It's a long road. Last year, I used SDN as my source for UMass updates since the admissions office can't be as forthcoming with information as we would like.

I'm from MA and basically it's challenging from what I've heard to get in. But, we will see... when it's my turn to put my life in these fragile Adcom's hands, I'll tell you how it goes, lol. good luck! By the way, I'd rather be in Cambridge but I mean... you're in a dorm and how much free time will you really have in Med School?
 
Just so everyone doesn't have to comb through last year's thread.

One person said that they interviewed in September and heard about 2 months later (guess that means Nov-Dec). But the majority of people heard on Dec 11th.

The year before that, people heard around thanksgiving.

So I guess that leaves us estimating the 4 week period of the end of November to a couple weeks into December for first notices for non-early-decision applicants

does anyone know about how many people apply EDP and get in? I havent seen anyone say they applied EDP yet. This may give us an idea of how many spots are left open.
 
yeah it doesn't seem like there are any...don't sweat it though, previous years it seems like this is around the time we should be hearing back or possibly later into December 🙂 Keep your fingers crossed and good luck 🙂
 
I completed on 8/10, got an invite to interview last week! sheesh, for late Feb!

It took them 4 months to invite a kid with 40/3.75? I'm sure they're just playing hard to get. I was complete in oct and invited a week later. Will sell my body for a spot in the class.

ughh i'm dying to hear back from these guys! I interviewed on October 1 and since have gotten into a couple of schools in NY, but I would absolutely love to go to UMass. ughhhhhh they need to hurry🙂

no, but did interview at 9 or 10 schools in the time it took to get the invite.

I thought you said your interview was in September, not October?

Either way, yeah - this wait is excruciating. Aaargh! Come on, just let me know already!
 
whoa you're right...haha why did i say i interviewed 9/19??? weird, but yeah i interviewed October 1.
 
hopefully they will let us know before they break in december. i remember them telling us we would hear around 3 weeks after our interviews. and even if they decided to wait for october 15th, i didnt expect 3 months of waiting! well, were all in the same boat. this is how it goes.
 
and i'm sure you all care so much about this 😛

but!

it turns out my interview was 9/19 i was confusing it with tufts which was 10/1...basically the only reason why i'm posting this is to show how confounded and bamboozled one can be after this whole effing process...

well at least i've seen the lithmus test of my sanity 🙂
 
a quick question for everyone that has had an interview---how is the invite sent? email or regular mail? thanks in advance!
 
everytime i see this thread jump up to the top, i get this false hope that I will at least here some sort of news. I interviewed 9/15, as I think I said before. I have also heard that the wait for UMass is usually excruciatingly long. I absolutely love the school, and I really really want to be back in Mass for med school. DC is far enough south for me, and there is no legitimate skiing.

Anyway, good luck to all. In the mean time, enjoy the pats destroying the jets this weekend. 😎
 
my invite was through e-mail as well. (Oh, my interview was last week btw) The way they talk about it I'm expecting a very long wait to hear anything.
 
is it possible that others have heard back that aren't on this site? seriously i'm dyyyyyyyyying over here waiting for this school.
 
The only person that I know that has heard back is someone who was in EDP. No one else I know has heard....I guess we just have to keep waiting.

i was complete in october and i haven't heard a peep. i guess i'm cooked. 🙁
 
I was complete in September, and still not a word from them. I'm beginning to think there's something about me they just didn't like....

Just goes to show how frustrating this process is... out of all my schools, I thought this was a school I could at least count on to get an interview. Guess I was wrong.... no love from any Massachusetts schools at all!

According to a schedule I saw, the last day of interviews is March 26th. As far as I know, all interview invites are sent through email.

i did check out an MD/PhD thread and it looks like one kid had gotten into that..does that mean that the normal MD kids would have gotten their acceptances as well?

Argh - dude! Each time you bump this thread, I have to check it again to see if anyone has heard yet - for the sake of my sanity, please slow down.

I'd assume that the MD/PhD folks and the "just" MD applicants aren't necessarily hearing at the same time.

Doesn't UMass take something like a third of the people they interview? Odds are that when they start passing out acceptances, at least one of us on this thread will get one. And I promise that if I'm one of the lucky ones, I'll post to this thread right away!

Hi all, I am also majorly freaking out about UMass. My bf interviewed way back in September for MD and we still haven't heard a thing. I just got in to Tufts so if he gets in to UMass the next 4 years of our lives are set.
We have a friend who interviewed on the same day at UMass for the MD/PHD program- she got an acceptance just a couple of weeks later. So yes, it does look like they dole out acceptances at a different schedule depending on what program you are applying to.

I promise to post nothing else until we hear from UMass!

No freaking! 🙂 The majority of acceptances don't arrive until April/May.
