UMass Worcester

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just withdrew my acceptance at UMass. 🙂

I hope one of you guys gets to take my spot!!! :luck: :luck: :luck:

Does anyone know if any MD (not MD/PhD) candidates have been rejected post-interview so far this cycle?

Just wondering if they are waiting until the end to actually start rejecting people.

Thanks!

Well I'm one.

Hey Dave-

I am sorry to hear things didn't work out for you.

Are you referring to last cycle or this cycle? I thought you had said that your MCAT was too old to apply this cycle, but I know you had also mentioned getting an interview this cycle.

Oh if it wasn't clear I got the UMass interview for the class that starts in 08. (The interview itself was in December and yes I got rejected already.) When I say that my MCAT expired I mean that it wouldn't be valid for an application submitted in June/July of this year. Hope that's a little clearer.

It's Friday... yet again. Anybody hear anything???

Very sadly... nothing here. 🙁

This is why I love these boards though haha. It is nice to know that I am not the only one at work with my email and sdn open at all times on fridays LOL. :scared:

So rumor is that schools have to report a number of acceptances equal to the number of seats of the class by march 30th? This isn't very significant for private schools that accept 2-3 times it's class size, but would pretty much mean everyone that doesnt hear next week is waitlisted since Umass can only accept 100 students. Anyone care to weigh in??

Looking back at the umass thread from last year, people were still getting acceptences (w/o being waitlisted first) up into April. Then at the end of April and beginning of May, the waitlists and rejections started pooooouring in.

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=345705&highlight=umass

So, I guess if they do need to report 100, they just report all the acceptences they have sent out and not heard from yet. They are done interviewing on March 26th, so I am sure they will have invited 100 people by the 30th. But they don't just automatically waitlist everyone else.

The fact that they don't really start rejecting a lot of people until May makes me nervous though 🙁

Well it could be worse, you could be one of the few early rejections🙁

Has anyone tried to call to see if the class if filled yet/ if they are sending more acceptances before May? Now I'm even more nervous after looking at last year's posts :scared:

they don't tell you anything when you call the admissions office. they'll give you the generic answer "all decisions will be going out until the middle of may" which is crap, because they stop sending acceptances in early april, i think.

Looking at last year, there seems to have been significant wait list movement...

From what I've been told, around 200-250 people get accepted, so the 100 that may be accepted by early April are not the final list at all and if you have not heard it is by no means over, you'll probably be on waitlist then probably moved off...

Also, note that most people who have been accepted so far have had really good MCAT/GPA and are probably getting nice financial aid packages from other schools....

At least I have orgo II final 😱 to take my mind off of things for the time being...

Wow, that was really fast! Congratulations! I interviewed on the 12th as well, so I'm hoping that I'll get some good news soon too!

My fiance interviewed in the beginning of October and we're still waiting.... the worst part is that they told him, "you'll probably hear from us in just a couple of weeks." ugh. 6 months later......

I just withdrew from UMass today. Hopefully my spot goes to someone who really needs it. It felt weird, but I guess I did the right thing.😳
GOODLUCK everyone.

Hi, I have never written on this site before but have been following the umass threads. I only applied to umass (family reasons,) and interviewed on 3.19. Thank you to those who gave up their spots.

Good luck everyone!

I interviewed at UMASS on Mar 12 and received my acceptance letter Mar 21 (I am so unbelievably happy, I haven't stopped smiling since). I'm not sure how they do things there though... Others I know who sent their secondaries in around the same time I did got interview offers much sooner then me. But then again, many of them have yet to hear back...

congrats! thats insanely fast...no pun intended...do you mind posting your stats? goodluck to the rest of us!

It's the last friday in march...anybody hear anything?

nothing here... I am trying to stay positive but I have a sinking feeling that time is running out 😱.

But if no one hears anything, then maybe the committee just didn't meet this week??

I just looked carefully at the calendar and all the dates that people have given. Obviously, the interviews are on Wednesdays and acceptances on Fridays. I am willing to bet that the committee meets on Thursdays every 2 weeks, and the last time they met was 3.20 (which is why barelysane got hers on 3.21.) If I am right, then they will meet again on 4.3 to look at the 3.19 and 3.26 interviews and give out another batch of acceptances on 4.4. I am hoping since I interviewed on 3.19, they wouldn't have been able to evaluate me on 3.20 and will have to wait until 4.3 (if they only meet every 2 weeks.) At least this line of thinking works to my benefit, but who knows if it right.

it comes from an indomitable will."
Hang in there everybody...+pity+

My parents told me that the Air Force sent me a letter this past week explaining how they want to pay for my medical school tuition...that should count as an acceptance, right? Maybe I should let UMass know...

Don't I wish it worked that way...🙄

Anybody hear anything today? I have a hunch the best we can now hope for is a waitlist

I don't think that's true- UMass is just obnoxiously slow. Last year most people didn't hear until April- acceptances, rejections, and waitlists.....

and although I know not everyone posts on SDN, there's just no way UMass has sent out 100 acceptances. no way.

I agree with Goosie...from everything I have read and been told, there are still more spots.

I get so nervous on Fridays! It's hard to concentrate at work!

They were required by law to report 100 acceptances by march 31st. Obviously some of those 100 students declined the offer (there's at least 2-3 of them on SDN). Looking at the threads from the past three years, students were mostly either accepted within 2-4 weeks of their interview, or waitlisted. The last batch of straight acceptances came at the first or second week of April, followed by a batch of waitlists in the end of April/early may, followed shortly by a batch of rejections.

I'd like nothing more than to be proved wrong, but umass seems pretty consistant with this timeline.

I interviewed on march 26th the woman in the admission office told us that there were spots left and that we're not interviewing for the waitlist... I don't see how they could have filled all the spots before march 31. Looking at last week there were no acceptances. Or those that got them are not on SDN 😀
in any case its still early maybe they're just drinking their morning coffee and will send acceptances after lunch

Well, my theory about every other Thursday committee meetings and Friday morning acceptances before 11 am seems to be probably wrong.

Waiting definitely is the worst part.

If anyone DOES get their good news today, could you please post it? This way we can better gauge what is going on, and I'll try not to be too envious.

Thanks!

Oh Umass where art tho?I guess this week is not our week. And so the wait continues...

I've given up hope for this cycle for UMASS. This time around, my MCAT will hopefully ROCK and UMASS will love me in the future 🙄

Good luck everyone!

As nice as it would be for there to be laws regarding acceptances and what-not, the "laws" everyone refers to on SDN are really just guidelines- the schools aren't going to lose funding or face repercussions from AMCAS if they don't send out 100 acceptances by Mar 31st...... now if they wait until June or July... hopefully some heads start rolling!

I'm certainly not trying to prove you wrong here or anything- I think we're both in agreement that acceptances have gone out but that there are still more to come....

I actually asked about this specifically at my interview, if there were any laws about how many students they can accept at one time/deadlines etc. They just said they will have all decisions made by mid-May and looked at me like I was kinda crazy.

Waiting game.... best to keep yourself busy with other things...

like Wikipedia's WikiProject Medicine!

Havent given up hope just yet, very glad to see that so many others are in the same boat as myself... 🙂

I have a feeling today is going to be another tough roller-coaster type day.
Good luck, everyone.
Please post any news...Thanks

ya...I agree...... I'm trying not to re-load this page every 30 minutes, but it's gonna be one of those days....

good luck to everyone, assuming decisions come out.....

(although at this point, I'm hoping we hear something before May 1st....)

with the every two weeks theory, i think last friday was the last time they were sending out acceptances.

I called the office on wednesday and they told me that decisions were both mailed and emailed therefreo if we have not heard anything from them it would suggest that they have not met yet.
I am so sick of this waiting game! I don't care anymore.

Yea but no one said that they were accepted last friday. I know that sdn is only a small population of people, but I would have though SOMEONE would have said something.

Besides, I don't think there is a "last day". A large group won't be sent out until later, but I highly doubt that with a bunch of people constantly accepting and rejecting offers at a bunch of different schools, that they ever sit back and just wait for answers to come in. I think it is more of a constant people decline so they accept more kind of game.

But if we haven't heard anything yet today, I wouldn't expect it. Judging by all the earlier posts, the email comes around 11am 😳

I want this more than anything! 🙁 But, I am not going to sit here and hold my breath because it really is an awesome school with so many amazing applicants.

No one has posted anything the last couple of weeks... It seems like they should be making decisions! Good luck to everyone... I am still keeping my fingers crossed for news today!🙄

they stop sending out acceptances in the first one or two weeks of april. the secretary gives out false information when she says acceptances are still going out until may. if you are curious, check last year's thread.

Got an e-mail acceptance yesterday, so I guess they at least weren't lying.

I interviewed in early March.

Congrats!! Do you mind posting your stats? And did you apply for regular MD or MD/PhD?

Congratulations! Thank you for letting us know. I am still keeping my fingers crossed. Call me crazy, but I only applied to umass.

Waiting is so hard!
