Hi guys,

I am a current NJDS dental student of the Class of 2007. I know how I felt when I entered dental school, and how overwhelming it is, so please let me know if you have any questions. no i didnt receive my financial aid packet yet....all i got was some thing that told me my file was incomplete and i had to fill out an entrance interview and send in my tax return forms....that was about it..that was like a month ago....

did you finish filing your health forms? i just finished that last week...that took forever...

for those of you worrying about housing, i just spoke to one of the architects. they said the rain jersey had last week, kinda put a damper on some of the construction. they only have up to the 12th floor of the new apartments enclosed. they have walls, and carpet, but its not even close to done yet. They think they'll be done just barely, and you guys might have temporary tenant occupancy permits (or something like that) Just thought i'd let you guys know.

1Bdrm: 1075 +
2/3bdrms: range from 830 to 875+
all prices are per person

Dont forget additional $800 per year parking

The housing location and ammenities are pretty convienent, but you can definately find apartments much cheaper in the surrounding areas, and if you want something very close society hill is pretty good too.

My only qualms are that we are signing contracts for apartments that will not be finished till august, so we really dont know what we are getting, plus you cant pick the apartment you want...and signing up for a roomate does not guarentee it (you have to put in an order of preference for how many bedrooms you want and can request a particular roomate). I'm going to check outside of newark to see whats available...

ya, very true. what a bummer!!! thanks for the info. I was sitting here with my fingers crossed hoping the apt would be completed on time. . . but i guess not. 🙁 guess i'll be starting my apt hunting purty soon. society hill you say?? ... arg.

How many of you are going to rent/buy in Newark itself and how many are going to live in a surrounding suburb? I was thinking of the dorms, but was told they won't be done until the earliest August...and I have to establish residency before then because I live in NY... I kind of wanted to get an apartment right by the school for convenience, but is that what the students usually do??

Does anyone know if you can still file for in-state residency even if you request for dorms and you are from another state?

Because I know some states don't let you dorm if you're going to file for in-state residency...

im not sure how it works...but you can definitely becoming an in-state resident within one week or so of matriculation..thats all i remember...as for dorming..i dont see why it wouldnt work...you should check with the housing office to make sure...

the housing office is closed until monday for memorial day weekend...I will give them a call and post an update...

is anyone still working on the health stuff? my doctor's office is not cooperating at all..its taking forever just to get one thing in....anyone missed the deadline too? were they really that strict about it? i called yesterday and they said that they should have it in by next week...but i dont even think my doctor's office can do that...

hi guys,
i am a current NJDS freshman this yr. congrats to all of you who have gotten in! I am emailing bc I am looking for a roommate for next year. I am going to be living w a great girl from your class named Kristen and we were hoping we could find another freshman girl to live with.
My house is in Clifton, and is abt 15 minutes from school, very easy to get to by taking the parkway. It is a 3 bedroom house w spacious bedrooms, central air, wireless internet, cable, driveway, a backyard and deck w bbq grill, a basement w built in bar, and a nice size dining room, kitchen and living room. rent is 665 a month which includes everything except PSEG (heat and electric) bc that bill is variable.
I am also very close to many supermarkets and 1 minute from huge barnes and noble, AMC movies and Target complex on rt. 3.

havent heard anything from the financial aid dept....but i called the health office today too...and they said if ur missing that one thing...then its not a problem...just get it in the sooner the better....i know its been a pain in the ass...but itll work out...im sure they dont mind...if i hear anything from financial aid, ill post it...

the problems at njds continue to mount. apparently, less than 20 or the almost 90 students of the class of 2006 graduated-the rest are being evaluated on a case by case basis to see if they were involved in the cheating scandal. in addition, former students are saying that the school forced them to pay the unpaid balances of the clinic bills of their patients before they graduated.

I applied for housing a little over a month ago (which was apparently early). I called the other day just to check on the status of my application and I was informed that I definitely had a room. The woman gave me a choice between 2 and 3 bedrooms and I picked 3. She told me that they are working on assignments for the next month or so and then in mid-July we should receive the details about moving in.

I put on the Roommate preferences section that I preferred to share a room with other dental students, which will probably make things easier since we'll be on the same schedule. If anyone wants one of the other rooms in my apt., I'm sure we could call up the housing office and get it arranged.

I picked mine up at the office yesterday. They had mailed it out but to my school address and I didn't want to rely on mail forwarding.

On a side note, I got a random letter from U of Iowa in the mail today congratulating me on taking the DATs and inviting me to apply for 2007... a full year after I actually took the test. Weird

I'm gonna go with that plan for the health insurance. For dental, how many of you are going to go with the school's DeltaCare dental insurance?

Has anyone received anything else from school (our IDs, any other info) besides the financial aid letter?
