1. Is the MBS/MS or post-bacc a linkage program?

2.Can you start the masters w/o completing the pre-med req, ie can you have some requ, and enter the program to finish them?

3. Outside of jerey, do they have acceptances to other colleges?

4. other post bacc-or ms programs (not uconn) on east coast.

😕

1. The MBS/MS Is not a linkage program
2. I believe you have to have a bachelor's degree in order to matriculate into the program, not sure though because I already had my B.S. when I applied and got accepted.
3. I believe the acceptance rate to med school at my program is around 87-90%. Of the students last year everyone got in except for 2 students and the reason they didn't 'get in' was because they didn't apply to medical school.
4. There are some smp (special masters programs) on the east coast: Boston University M.A. in medical sciences; Drexel's IMS program, Loyola M.A., EVMS..several...check out the sticky, it will list all the post bac programs.

I am currently in the UMDNJ-MBS program at stratford (the D.O. school) and the program director has told us that essentially if you do well you will get in somewhere. Hope this helps. PM me if you have any specific questions about the program.

Edit: I should mention that even though you do not have to have a B.S. (you could have a B.A. or something else), you still need the basic courses because the courses do not teach you basic sciences, they expect you to know this prior to attending and therefore the courses would be more difficult for you. I would suggest you have all of your general bio and general chemistry done before starting. Physics and O-chem isn't necessary, although it would help in understanding some reactions in biochem (we are not tested on reactions but if you can conceptualize why electrons do what they do and interact the way they do in organic compounds then some enzyme/substrate reactions will make sense to you).

Thank you-Check your PM please.

I contacted the school and they said that you need ALL of the pre-reqs coming in. I have already stopped taking my coursework so now I have to start again in spring. Do you know exactly up to what (course work) you need for admisssion?
Heres what I have left to take:
1. Organic Chem 1 & 2
2. Physics 2, may have to retake Physics 1 (got a C)
3. Calculus 2, May have to retake Calc 1 (got a D) - Not necess.
Thats it, I would like to attend UMDNJ for fall 2008, and I can complete The physics and one of the organic chems, but I will be lacking the last orgo, would they admit me? If not, is it better to go for the spring? I intend to finish the program in a year-1.5 max.

Thanks for any suggestions, just a bit confused.

I wouldn't retake the Physics 1, I got straight C's in physics and it didn't affect their decision to accept me. You will have to retake the Calc 1 though because a D is not considered passing. Take O-chem 1, Physics 2 and Calc 1 in the spring and finish O-chem in the first summer session. If you have to work then just take 2 courses in the spring and the other 2 in the summer sessions. Not having finished the pre-reqs when you apply will make it difficult for them to evaluate you, I would think. I would call them and ask them if it would be more advisable to apply for the spring, come in as a non-matriculated student in the fall, or to just go ahead and apply for fall 2008 (matriculating student). Sorry I couldn't be of more help, your situation is a little different than mine so I am not exactly sure how to answer your questions. :luck:

I will retake the Calc-90% of my class got D's and petitioned but did not win. Anyway, I spoke to the admissions office at gsbs and they said that if you are entering without all your pre-reqs finished thats no good they adivised:

1. Apply for fall still, but finish your pre-reqs or have proof that you are registered and continually supply materials to prove your grade and stance in the class.
2. Since I only have a couple of classes (3) and the clac to retake i was advised to finish the orgo 1 and physics 2 in spring of my final senoir year (may 208), and the second orgo-2 in summer at Nassau c.c. Now i have to put the calc into my schedule somewhere, most likely next spring, just suck it up.

Where do people who finish this program usually end up? acceptance wise?

Wiseprincess-I dont know the avg gpa/mcat- email Dr. Nicholas I. I did, told him my situation and he offered me hope-lol. I did not take the MCAT, instead I will be taking the GRE and submitting my GPA.

has anyone ever been accepted in the program without taking calc. phys. chem? i'm in an allied health prodession program for undergrad and its going to be a serious pain to schedule time for two more classes since we already work on an assigned curriculum.
