Well I ended up not getting the condo, but I still wanna get a 2 or 3 bedroom and haven't figured out a roomate yet. Anybody know about roomate listings or anything? I've been swamped at work, so I haven't had time to really think about it... I think I liked echelon glen the best so far though, even though all i hear about is kingsrow on this thing... anybody able to compare them? anyways... hopefully i will find a way to figure out who i'm living with, ahhh.. haha

LOL, well i have a small confession. I am up in the air right now about where I will be staying, i kind of liked the landings, lots of space, washer dryer hook up, i like the community... I dunno yet. Dr. Rosen...do u have any input about the landings lol...?

If this helps anyone, I think I'll be living at The Village...the main selling point for me was the washer/dryer in the apartment, no security deposit, close proximity to school (i'd like to get as much sleep as possible in the mornin), and my brother lived there a year or two back and said it was a good place (although its a bit smaller than the Echelon Glen apartments). The community seemed nice, minus the fact that one of the tenants who walked by me was wearing a belly shirt.....and he was a fat guy...its funny how you remember the things that you try your hardest to forget...

I put down my deposit at a place no one has mentioned yet. It has a 850sqft one bedroom for 800 or a 1,000sqft for $840. That includes all utilities. Looks like a very upkept community. It is just short of 5 miles from school in blackwood, nj. It is close to deptford mall which makes more convenient to go eat or chill over there. There is also a small deli store within the complex that will deliver to your unit. Imagine getting bread delivered when you run out. Some of you guys should check it out.

This complex sounds nice. What is the name of the complex? Does it have a w/d in the unit? I'm planning to go back down in a couple of weeks and check out some more complexes and make a final decision so I'd love to check it out...

Hey Alex,
I visited lakeview....i actually got lost going there...the apartments were too secluded in the woods from my taste.....coming from NY you learn that its important to be in wide open spaces lol but that was also my issue with Landings at pine lake....where yes i agree with Dr. Coords that the apts. were nice...roomy...and pretty lake. But again, i felt like it was all enclosed and i might possibly doubt how safe walking at night is to and from my car. And as jaynine pointed it out it was a BIT sketchy. Then again I am a female 🙂 so perhaps for you gentleman this isnt a concern. My other option is to hire bodyguards lol so for anyone in our class looking to make some extra $$ let me know lol. Landings is still an option for me but they still have nothing available so who knows. As long as we all have apartments somewhere thats what matters and to each his own size shape and preference.

Yay for Marlton! I live in Marlton so I have some good ol' SJ pride. You guys have checked out craigslist right? I can personally vouch for the Marlton Meadows, it's literally within a 5 minute walk from my house. BUT during early mornings the traffic is a nightmare. Also, I think you'd be a bit farther away from others that are living in Lindenwold/Voorhees; and if you live in Lindenwold or Voorhees, PATCO is closer for those trips to Philly.

I don't get on as much as I should.... But I'm a first year. Everything Nate says is valuable info. So definitely take his advice.
I was a pre-matric student. Any questions, feel free to ask me. If you were asked or invited to do pre-matric....DO IT!!!!! It was so helpful, informative and you get a head start on things.
I'm also a memebr of SNMA and currently on the e-board, so any questions are welcomed.
As far as living. I live in the Landings and I love it. It's very safe and you get the most bang for your buck. I originally was going to live in the Village. I decided on Landings because you get more square feet and all untilities except electric is included. That means cooking and Laundry and heat are free. You only pay A/C which I never used because it's already cool in my apt and electric. I pay 775 a month includin w/d in my apt. I have Comcast cable and internet that will run you $50-$100 if you get in on the promotions. My Electric bill runs $30-$60 depending on how much I leave my on if I fall asleep :0)The Village is very nice and in a very nice area but the idea of paying $800-$900 for a small space turned me off. Mind you, you have to pay all untilities separate from your rent. So really look into all of those things. I looked at a lot of apartments before I decided on Landings. If you all have specific questions on other apts, fell free to ask. I know I stated this earlier. Most people like or live at Stonington (AKA: UMDNJ City), Village, Landings, Pine Hill Gardens and Chalet Gardens. I've seen all of these places. Some people live in Echelon Glen, but I don't hear much about it and Timber Ridge for roomates. A lot of the apts that were listed on that websites are sketchy in my opinion, so make sure you take a good look at the apt, the benefits and the safety.

Hope I was helpful

FYI: I'm a female from NY who knows the importance of being safe at all times. Another incentive of the pre-matric is getting your apt and getting totally settle before school start. A lot of my fellow prematricers spent the summer moving in and furninshing their apt. They felt at ease by the time school started. Wherever you decide to move, safety should be a concern at all times especially when you come to and from school in the midlle of the night. I live alone and I've never felt unsafe... but you must be cautious at all times (that's the NY in me).

BLASPHEMY!! ok im just kidding. Good info about the landings, If a second story apt opens up im pretty sure thats where I will be. EAG, please post more, all of us future SOMers love to hear from current students.

And I live on the first floor. I got my apt late even though I was in the pre-matric program. So there were no more 2nd floor apts. If you have quiet neighbors, then you are in luck. I would say to get a 2nd floor if you can. If you can't, get one that has 2nd floor qualities. My back area is high up so it's like I'm on the 2nd floor. Also, I made sure I got an apt with a window in my bedroom and not a sliding door (safety reasons) I gues my only problem with the first floor is the person above me. But it's not that bad. It's not as crazy as you might think.

I was wondering if you could talk more about how you financed rent, etc while you were in pre-matric. That is a huge issue for me because I am coming from Ohio and moving expenses and initial deposits for apartments etc are pretty hefty right now. Any advice?

Hi everyone. I recently received a letter indicating that I was on an "Alternate" list, and I was wondering if anyone knows if this list is ranked or if everyone in the "pile" is rereviewed when a spot opens up in the class. I will probably call the admissions office tomorrow and ask, if no one knows, but I would appreciate any input you have. Thanks!

Hi all!
I'm absolutely horrible about posting, but I just wanted to say a quick hello to my future classmates 🙂
I already met Polina and Jaynine at a party about a month ago, so hi to you two again 🙂
and hi to everyone else too 🙂

when does UMDNJ-SOM start interiviewing and also when do they start sending interview invites? currently i have a 23O MCAT but i will take it again in august, i should designate this on the AACOMAS application that is set to come out next week right?

If anyone is looking for roommates for the entering class of 2006, let me know. My name is Brett, I'm 22 and coming to SOM from FL. You can PM on here or catch me on AIM at med1co55.

Does anyone know the date of the white coat ceremony or when classes begin? I'm still on the waitlist for this year, but want to keep those dates open before I book up the summer... (I keep hoping for a miracle before then!!) :luck:

Not sure of the exact dates but the ceremony is during orientation week which begin on july 30th, classes start around aug 8th

Your first day of orientation is usually White Coat which is on a Sunday (I think that's what it was for us). Orientation is a week and then you start classes. Spend orientation meeting EVERYONE in your class. Don't start studying or any of that stuff during orientation (we had some kids talk about that). If anything worry about getting books but don't buy anything new until you talk to your Big Bro/Sis cause you may be getting hand me downs.

oh and ENJOY your summer!

Thanks for the info about the white coat ceremony and orientation. I'm worried about the dates because I'm teaching a couple of classes this summer at a county college that finish during the last week of July. I hope that IF I were to get acceptance for this year, the final exams wouldn't conflict with the beginning of classes at SOM. Other than that, I plan on chillin' as much as I can before August! 🙂

Hey all, I'm applying to UMDNJ for the next cycle, and I'm planning on applying to both the osteopathic and allopathic schools. So I'm wondering, do you think either of them will know that I'm applying to the other? And if so, will this hurt me at either school?

I know that, typically, admissions committees don't know what others schools you're applying to, but I was thinking maybe this would be different, since both are in the same system. What do you think?

The first day of orientation for you will be July 31st, I assume the white coat ceremony will be July 30th, Sunday. There is no official schedule yet for you guys but our first day is July 31st and historically this is how it works.

At least at UMDNJ-SOM, they will know because they ask you point blank at your interview. Where else are you applying? What are the results? Be prepared to answer.

It was asked of me at almost all of my interviews and I aswered honestly that I had applied to 31 schools and that I had acceptances elsewhere if that was the case. Just be prepared to answer ‘why DO’ and ‘why UMDNJ’ from there and have good reasons. My answer was that although I believed in the Osteopathic philosophy, that I could practice medicine in a holistic way with an allopathic education if need be and that I was judging where I would attend medical school by merit of the school rather than what degree it would grant me. From there I went on to explain why I loved UMDNJ and how I came upon those conclusions. Just be honest and put in some thought before hand and you will be fine. On a side note, these are NOT the ideal answers, DO schools want to hear you are most excited about the osteopathic philosophy and not just looking to get in anywhere. However, they were my honest answers and I did just fine. Good luck

Thanks for the prompt responses. I'll prepare myself with honest answers to those questions.

Hey, Well the 1 bedroom at the landings are in high demand and I might not be able to get one. If anyone is looking for a roomate to live in a 2 bedroom at the landings My name is Mike, age 22, I dont smoke. If anyone is interested just PM me.

Hi,

Can someone please tell me if Stonington Court is popular and basically a "safe" area?

thanks.

I didnt like Stonington court. I just drove through i didnt even get outta my car to look at the apartments. Polina did though so maybe when she wakes up from her nap she will have a better response.

Hi Gotgame83,

thanks for the reply. please let me know where you plan to stay?

I did not like the studio at the Village too much because it was small and the 1 bed room is kind of expensive.

thanks.

If a place opens up at the landings at pine lake that will currently be my first choice. I was there for a second time today and It is definitly a place I would enjoy living.

At the risk of sounding like a princess, do most apartments in the area come with dishwashers? I lived happily for 10 years of my adult life without one and but I recently moved to a place with a dishwasher. I swear, it's like a choir of angels sings every time I run it. Yeah, yeah, I could live without one, but I have tasted the good life and I don't want to go back! Seriously, I'm the slowest dishwasher in the world and I'd rather spend the time sleeping or working out.

Also, a few people have mentioned safety issues. I figure I'll need to be careful anywhere, but are there areas that are specifically known for their high sketch factor?

Every place i looked at had a dishwasher. I HATE washing dishes.

a lot of students live at Stonington. I personally didn't like it because I wanted a w/d in my apartment. At Stonington, there's a laundry room for every 4 apts and you have to pay like you were at a laundry mat. But what draws a lot of people especially the women is the "california-style closets" (basically you have a lot of closet space and it's walk in) And they also have an apt set up with a den that I'm sure people use as their study.

Just another tidbit to be mindful of. Traffic sucks on Laurel road especially after 4pm going towards Stonington and the other apts on that side. It sucks around lunch time and maybe in the morning going the other way towards the Village. This might be impt for the final apt decision. I don't want to keep biggin up the Landings because it has its faults too, but it's right off white horse pike and there's never traffic for me so it literally takes me 5-10 depending on the lights each way. Whenever I leave school and see the massive traffic on Laurel road, I shake my head and thank God, I decided to live where I live. I hate traffic.

Oh, one more thing, apparently, the police love to lurk around Laurel road at night to catch people going over the 25mph speed limit. Another reason why I like where I live.... I'm a speed demon and can't stand driving that slow :0) So I know, I would've gotten pulled over a lot. And being on the budget I'm on, I wouldn't have be able to afford all of those tickets.

Has anyone heard anything about an apt complex called Fox Ridge?

Okay, so I am looking to either live in Kingsrow or Stonington Court...I much prefer the layout and apartment at Stonington Court but don't know much about the apartment complex.

Does anyone live there now and how is it? Is it safe? Relatively quiet? Any additional info?

any incidents?

I am not sure but I think more of you should take a look at lakeview

I'm moving July 15th into the Landings.

though I think I was better off not knowing about that shooting there...

It was probably a domestic dispute, just realize the fact that it WAS news is a good sign, in places like Paterson, Newark, and Camden a shooting is not news since it happens nightly. I wouldn't sweat it.

I am sending out my deposit check 2morrow. I should be moving into the landings july 15th. I like echelon but it was just too expensive as a single bedroom.

haha sorry. I visited the landings 2times and I thought it was a really good place and I liked all the space. I just picked up some great furniture today so who ever wants to come over my apt should be 3805 1st floor. See everyone there!

I'm in 3001 (first floor)...relatively close to yours, and moving in the same day!
It's nice to know there'll be a fellow classmate nearby 🙂

I live at the landings and I didn't hear anything about a shooting nor have I seen police activity regarding that. Like Nate said, it must have been a domestic thing. I live by the new clubhouse and I never heard about any fire. No matter, where you decide to live, there will be an issue. These aren't buldings owned by the school with just students residing in them. These are low income housing for the most part (that's why it's so cheap) with people from all walks of life. Find what you like and be prepared for whatever life brings you. If you decide Landings, Stonington, or wherever around here, you will all be fine. This is South Jersey not South Central or other places like that... nothing is really poppin off here like that. I've been here for almost and year and there has been nothing that serious that I've heard or witnessed. Like I said in previous posts..... you just got to have common sense wherever you go. If you are still wondering about the make up of some places, check my previous posts or pm me. FYI.... you will not even have time to be concerned about a lot of these things.... you'll be studying your behind off. Maybe that's why I never heard about a shooting. For those moving to the Landings.... welcome :0)

So it looks like at the moment lots of us are going to be living at the landings...ok so whos having the first party  Sounds like it will be cool. If enough of us are around in June lets all get together! Sounds like by july everyone will be in the area.
