UMDNJ-SOM wait list

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
when it comes to info on waitlists schools treat it as a national security threat if any of this info was to be revealed. So, as a general rule there is no real way to find out how many ppl are waitlisted or your position in the waitlist.

but they told me that there hasn't been any movement at all! conflicting information.

do you know how many people are on the waitlist? I heard that there is top 10 list. I wasn't sure if that top 10 people belongs to top 10%, top 20% or top 25% of all waitlisters.

Hey guys, I am hanging with you on the waitlist. I called today to confirm my phone and address and they told me also that most movement comes in June/July. I'd imagine the waitlist is large since they have been waitlisting since March when the class was supposedly filled. The Dean said on my interview May 4 that they expected to accept 20 more people and I think that included waitlisted people so it didn't inspire a whole lot of hope but still you never know! Good luck to everybody 🙂

they had told me there was no movement a couple of times but when i called last week, jennifer said a couple of ppl had gotten off. i talked to her today and she told me that there's been no more movement since then and that their waitlist isn't really large.

Sigh. I've heard there has been no movement whatsoever. All of this hearsay is driving me crazy -- to hope or not to hope...
Has anyone heard anything more about these 20 seats opening up? Are they expanding the class size? I thought the first and second year classrooms only had a capacity of 100 people each.

to Amaranthan...
I understand your feeling... I would like to settle this thing asap and enjoy my summer. I don't know about 20 seats opening up, however I doubt they will increase the class size.

anybody else heard anything from umdnj?

I think what the Dean meant was that they'd likely have 20 or so spots open up as a result of withdrawals..not an expansion in class size. So hopefully there is still a chance for those of us stuck on the waitlist!

I just found out that my friend who interviewed Apr. 25 was just recently accepted.

OK what is he/her stats? Was he/her on the waiting list?

I've figured out the method to the admission madness! They are picking names out of a hat!
I was waitlisted in December, but apparently am an "extremely qualified candidate that there is no room for because the class is full."
Who knows what to believe? Good grief!

I called the admissions office too. They told me that we are all ranked on the alternate list according to our composite score (grades, scores interview points etc). They won't tell you where you're ranked though. Also they said that the list starts moving in the summer months.
Thats all the info I got.
*fingers crossed

I like the idea of picking names out of a hat. better chance for me. 😉

hey guys, i know exactly how you feel, and my advice to you is just hang in there. let the admissions office know from time to time that you're still alive and well and interested. our school typically sees a siginficant amount of movement during these summer months up til the white coat ceremony. i can tell you a large number of people in my class were accepted off the waitlist, some even up to a day before the first day, so just hang in there, and don't give up hope. i wish you guys all the best, and i hope i see you here in the fall.

thank you for the encouragement. umdnj-som has a small size class, how many people were accpeted from the waitlist last year?

alchemist has high stats so i won't be suprised they called her. I spoke to adcom, they have told me that for those waitlisters who qualified will received a letter.

No letter for me so far 🙁

heya sayoc and aau22, thx dudes. i just got another call from paula watkins and i am officially in. she must call a lot of ppl everyday cuz she thought she called me a coupla days ago, when it was just only yesterday. still haven't heard from western so i called them and they say that my letter is on the way, too...

Congrats on the official acceptance! If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats like?

What do you mean who qualify??? LIke those who get pulled from the waitlist get a letter or they are going to be shortening the waitlist??

qualify = to those of wait lister has high chance of pulling off from the waitlist. I heard it is about 10 people(top 10) from the entire pool of waitlisters.

every school is different but let's assume that a typical school (DMU) has 200 seats and have 125 waitlister. Of those 125, about 29 from last year got off from wait list which translate 29/125 = 23%. UMDNJ has 100 seats and most like will have 50+/- waitlister (that is my guess) and 20% of 50 gives you 10 people. This is what I think based on my math. applicants may drop from waitlist so ranking is always changing so there is no way to know.

Congrats, alchemist! I'm glad to hear that the waitlist is beginning to move 😀 I, too, am curious about your stats. (I'm wondering if I should get my hopes up...)

Does UMDNJ-SOM take people off solely by GPA/MCAT? Not on the waitlist here, but curious about other schools. 🙂

They do point system! GPA and MCAT are all given by points, so does your interview points. They rank you according total number of points you have. Many school do. It is very effective way of judge people - I felt it is only way to rank large pool of applicants but not necessarily a good/best way.

Higher the GPA and MCAT, the better the chance you have....
I know alchemist stats are very good.

How the hell do u delete a post u made?

you can use the "edit" command and just take out the part u want to delete or just write "deleted" if u don't want the whole post to b seen cuz i don't think it'll let u completely blank everything out

I am sorry, I don't know the answer to this question. You should be informed, by mail or phone, that you are made to "top 10". I am anxiously waiting too. If I do get anything from adcom I will let you know. I read somewhere in SDN, that soneone from last year made to top 10 but did not get an offer, so top 10 just a indicator not a guarantee. Waitlist movement is like a damping over time...

So if a person makes the "Top 10" in terms of the waitlist, is that the first letter they receive, or do they receive the standard waitlist letter, and receive another letter later? This is a question for anyone who knows...

I was waitlisted at LECOM-Erie and was told over the phone that I was in the "Top 10" on May 16. I never received a waitlist letter even though they told me over the phone they were sending one. Instead I received a phone call on May 22 telling me that I was accepted. When I received my acceptance letter a few days later it was dated May 15. So I suppose my acceptance letter had already been written and they were just waiting for a spot to open up for me!

From what I know, it will be a letter which indicates your are in top 10 and there is a better chance, comparatively, getting accepted. First round of pick will be very fast, there is no time or needs to send out the letters.

Hi Everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I heard from the admissions office yesterday. They gave me a spot off the waitlist, but I have already decided on CCOM. So...THERE IS MOVEMENT! Kind of strange that they called me at work to tell me...I guess you never know! I wish you all the best of luck. Feel free to contact me with any more specific questions.

Dr Krueger, who is taking his place, is excellent and one of his most well known characteristics in the student body is for being fair. His office writes our dean letters, organizes our curriculum and is very familiar with the student body so I think he is ideal for the job. Losing Dr. Wallace is very sad but I don't believe the process will be affected. Good luck

as i promised 2 all of u's who PMed me asking me my stats and about getting off of the WL, i'm posting my decision. i decided 2 accept and am sending in the check 2day after i make a photocopy. GL 2 the rest of u and hopefully we'll all meet up in the fall. 🙂

feel free 2 PM me anytime and update me when u's get in (or whatever else)

I have heard that possibly the accreditation of the university may be affected in the long run by the dishonesty and mishandling of the university money. Once a school loses accreditation you cannot take federal loans. So this is very alarming to me.

😱 DrBrad, where have you heard this information? To take away a well established school's accreditation seems like a rather drastic step for the administrative mistakes of a few individuals. Does this rumor have a legitimate beginning, or is it just speculation?

Where did you hear this? Also, I'm curious about whether a private university would be held to the same standard. From what others have written on SDN, it seems that a private U. Dean would have a lot more freedom to spend university money as he chooses.

IF the accreditation is at risk, it seems awfully unfair that the actions of a few individuals could ruin a lot of what so many others have built at UMDNJ-SOM. It seems like they should be given a chance to repair the errors of a few before everyone is forced to suffer as a result of those errors.

Sounds like just hearsay. Do you have any proof of this?
