What is the deal with UMDNJ? I've heard they accept plenty of out-of-staters and I've heard they don't. The Official Guide to Dental Schools says they accepted just 2 out-of-staters in 2002-2003... yet the website says there are no residency requirements and "applications from non-NJ residents are encouraged".

Have they recently changed their policy on accepting out-of-staters or are they just trying to get the loot from all of us suckers who want to apply there but really have no chance.... ?

It onyl takes 3 months to establish residency in NJ, so most people can establish residency long before school starts. Therefore, everyone who attends UMDNJ is an in-state resident (except international students). Those numbers are based on students' status once they matriculate.

As an entering student at UMDNJ this fall, I can say with confidence that they certainly do accept many out of staters. How many exactly? Beats me, but there are plenty. In the past years, they did only accept NJ residents, but in the last 3 or 4 years, they opened up their school to students all over the country. During my interview, we had 10 interviewees, and myself and 2 other people actually lived in Jersey.

So yes, if your stats are as good as they should be, then your chances are just as good as anyone else's.

This is quite true. The financial aid director stated that the reason for that is thar everyone who goes to UMDNJ by the time they matriculate are instate. However, the ADEA book acknowledges those applicants as in-staters applicants, however they should really quote the number of actually in-state applicants instead. BTW the 2 people who are out-of-staters are those who were simply too lazy to apply for residency in the state of NJ, as per the financial aid director. GOOD LUCK !! :luck:

I'm glad I asked! So good to know...

No preference is given at UMDNJ to New Jersey residents anymore. It is an open field, I am told.
