I’m moving from Seattle to Ann Arbor in July and would appreciate any advice on where to look for housing. I’m bringing myself, my car and whatever fits in the car.
Grad Student Housing?
Weird roommate from craigslist?
Close to campus or suburb-ish apartments?
With other dental students? (Who are you and how would I ever connect with you before August?)

Outside of school I want convenience, style and a good social life. What does everybody got going and how do they like it?

Hey there,
welcome to UMich 🙂 I think you'll enjoy it here. Check this website out.

you just have to create a username to use it.

Here is another site that may help you out.

when i was looking for housing, i was not impressed with the grad student on campus housing. i do not live within walking distance, it does not bother me, but some people really enjoy being so close. i think you will have to weigh what is important to you: size, cost, distance, and quality. in general (there are always exceptions) the closer you are the more you will pay for a small, lower quality place.

hope that helps.

call up some of the management companies, tell them what you want and they can give you more info about what they have available and prices. then make an appointment to come look at ones that sound interesting. I also found the arborweb website previously mentioned really helpful.

If you want to have your car look for off campus housing. You will get more for your money. During undergrad I lived on campus, but I'm enjoying being off campus for grad school.

I found a great apt for 650 a month in AA, it is about 3.5 miles from campus and the bus stop is right outside the gate. I believe it is called Arbor Glen. The 650/month was a special they were running a few months ago, but I locked the apt in at the price. My biggest thing was a place for dogs and washer and dryer in the apt... this place had both. All apt have private entrances too, which I thought was cool. I looked a a lot of apt complexes in the AA/Ypsilanti area and had a really hard time finding something that worked because of my dog and my other stupid picky requirements. This place seemed to fit the bill.

PM me if you have other questions. 🙂
