Ok, so I recently added UMKC to my schools list, and then emailed the UMKC asking about it being past the Nov. 1 preferred deadline (actual deadline not til Dec. 1). All I received back was a response saying that it is too late to be considered for this year, eventhough my application will be in by mid Nov? I am a pretty competative candidate, so what is their deal? Is there any chance that this lady is full of crap or am I just up a creek with UMKC?

I scheduled my interview this past Monday for Jan 17th and they told me that they only had 5 more spaces for that date and then they would be done interviewing for this application cycle.
What atw said is true. UMKC leaves the application deadline open until dec, but they have a rolling interview process. Each year they only grant a set number of interviews. When they see an applicant that they like, they grant them an interview. In the words of the dean of admissions, "interviews are first-come-first-serve."
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you'll just have to apply next year.
The only way I could see you getting an interview this year is if someone who already has an interview scheduled for January or later, gets accepted somewhere else on Dec 1st and declines to interview at UMKC. I guess you could call to see if anyone cancels after dec 1st. But that still doesn't meant that they will look at your application?
