Hi folks, I'm wondering whether I should attend the invitation from UMN. I mean the flight costs around $410 and if you add the hotel plus car and food, that will be around $550! Moreover, UMN accepts 75% applicants with a Bachelor's degree or higher last year, which I will not obtain prior to matriculation. If my chances of getting in is slim, why spending $550 for nothing...

However, on the other hand, UMN is a school I really want to get into because it is renowned and has dual degree program. Any current students or alumni there? Does anyone know how they would judge applicants without Bachelor's?

PS: I'm an out of state applicant with only volunteering experience in a hospital pharmacy

Well if you applied there you must have liked it somewhat, personally i wouldnt have wasted the 40$ on the app fee if you didnt clan on going if you came to that anyway. If your sure you'll get in somewhere else you like more, then i'd say skip it.

I have been accepted to U of MN (Duluth). U of MN seemed like an excellent school to me before I went there for my interview, but I left the place with an even more positive feeling about the college than I thought I would. In my opinion you should go there for the interview...I know it sucks spending all that money, but actually going there is the best way to find out if the school is really right for you.

Yes, most of the people they admit have a BS, but not everyone...you still have a chance. I am an out-of-state applicant as well (although I do have the advantage of having spent the first 23 years of my life in MN)...although I got the feeling that they give slight preference to in-state applicants they are very open to out-staters.

Here are the most recent stats as far as how many spots are left (I took them from the UMN website):

Statistics on Rolling Admissions
(updated 12-03-07)
Applications received from PharmCAS: 593
Complete applications:243
Applicants invited to interview:157
Interview spots remaining:188
Spots remaining on TC campus:68
Spots remaining on Duluth campus:36

There's got to be something wrong with the stats. Completed application is 243 and applicants invited to interview + spots remaining is 345??? If I did the math right.

They have rolling admission. They invite to interview people throughout the year. Plenty of students will still be applying.

cy19861126,

I am currently first year at U of MN. I am also out-of-stater. I would really recommend you to visit the school because I felt in love with the school during my first visit. So far I have not regretted my decision to come here because I am getting an excellent education and meeting a lot of new people. Plus, I love Twin Cities (I am not sure what campus you would like to attend). We do have some people who don't have BS degrees so you definitely have a chance. PM me if you have more questions. But I would really recommend to visit the school (I am biased though).

By the way, when I was coming for my interview I spent around the same amount of money as you mentioned.

I think that you should go to the interview. I am an alumni from the U of M (earned my undergrad from there), and also entering the Fall 2008 College of Pharmacy class. The University of MN has one of the best programs in the US. Everyone at the college is very accomodating and want to see you succeed. Not everyone has a Bachelor's degree. If the rest of your stats are competitive and you show them you have a lot to offer, the lack of degree should not be a problem. According to the Fall 2007 statistics, 36% of students were from out-of-state. It says a lot that you got an interview invite. The U of M is only interviewing 350 applicants and they admit 107 to the TC campus and 60 to Duluth.
