Took my step 1 today. I had some sort of "stomach flu" the last two days that must have been from something I ate while at home, since two members of my family were sick too. Anyway, I thought it cleared up today and I was good to take the test, but midway through the second block, I got sick and had to run to the bathroom with 15 questions to go. I was gone less than a minute, but the proctors recorded it as irregular behavior (or maybe unauthorized break?). I asked them what I had to do to do, and all they said was call the NBME. I don't know if I should just start studying again. I'll be pretty depressed if 5 weeks of studying and 8 hours of taking that test (with no further interruptions) is wasted because of that one minute. Oh well. If the NBME does review my video, at least they'll find it amusing as I squirm for a good 20 minutes trying not to get sick right there in the room. 🙁

so, has this happened to anyone else or do you know what happens next? I can't even feel happy about being done with it without knowing if its actually done.

i had a problem during the the break between the blocks,
when i got home i immediately emailed the NBME detailing the issue

[email protected]

you will receive an email that says what person will be handling the 'case'

then that person will "investigate" and get back to you (it will take a while, for me it took 16 full days until i got the response...it was a pretty stressful wait...)

good luck

Would you get tagged for "irregular behavior" if you went to the bathroom in your pants? I would totally just let it ride. Or vomit all over my computer if I had to.

I seriously considered it...but then who wants to go down in med student history as the one who **** their pants during the step 1? and thanks for the email address. I'll write and explain as soon as I get a minute.

It'll be fine. You were probably video taped everywhere you went in the facility anyway. If your score is 275 you might be in trouble though.
