Can AAMC tell if you download a material from an unauthorized source? For example, someone posted the new MCAT flashcards on reddit and I bet people quickly downloaded them onto their own computers before AAMC had a chance to take it down. What happens to these people? Does AAMC track them down to see who downloaded what?

As an aside and utterly trivial, in 1999, a 16 year old Norwegian high school drop out was able to reverse engineer in a few nights the highly-publicized, multi-million protection software developed by US DVD Copy Control Association (DVD-CCA) and the Motion Picture Association (MPA) solely because he wanted to use it on a Unix system instead of Mac or Windows.

Similar situation with the xbox360 (or maybe it was the original xbox). They thought no one would be able to scan the high speed bus that they transfer the security key to the processor on. They didn't expect that some guys at MIT wanted to run linux on it, and happened to have access to the best diagnostic tools available.

So rule of thumb for the rest of medical career -- if you find yourself asking yourself "is this ethical?" -- it's probably not and best to avoid doing it.

I wouldn't. Everyone knows illegally downloading reddit flashcards leads to doctors that don't care about that law and eventually kill hundreds of patients.
