My bio/biochem score is in the bottom 10% or lower in some schools I am considering... I was wondering how important the individual section scores are. If one of my section scores is below the 10th percentile should I even bother applying?

The AAMC just did a survey to evaluate how the new MCAT is being used.
This is one of the questions that was addressed.
Hopefully we'll have results soon.

@gyngyn Was this survey taken into consideration when you recently replied on another poster's thread regarding a 125 or average physical science subsection? Thanks!

The survey questions were distributed a week ago.
Responses have not been evaluated (or collected!).

I had the same issue. I think that this answer is school-specific. I wasn't questioned at all about my 125, but my school list probably did not look the same as yours.

I'm in a similar boat, with 132 in CARS and 130 in psych/soc, but 127s in both of the science sections. For my top choice schools, my 127s are totally fine, so it doesn't matter, but I did wonder about this for the top-tier schools. Even at the schools where my 516 total MCAT score is at or above the median, my Bio score in particular was often around or below their 10th percentile.

Thank you all for your replies. I have nonbinding guaranteed admission somewhere, so I'm only looking to apply to a few schools that might have more opportunity to specialties I'm most interested in. I don't want to waste time and money applying if I'm getting filtered out!

Sometimes you have to apply with the MCAT score you have, warts and all.

Become a Canadian citizen? I heard they like CARS there.

I'm feeling you. I've had pretty much zero MD luck this year with a 126/131/130/128. It seems like most people's C/P is their highest, but that wasn't me.

I have all kinds of other deficiencies in my application, though, so I think it wasn't my lower C/P score that killed me.
