UNC and parking

To anyone who is currently a student at UNC SOM...is campus parking readily available? The orietation website mentioned that parking for med students is usually available in the S11 lot. But, are any students who have applied for a permit been denied due to limited spaces? My husband and I have a home about 15 miles from the school. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There is about a 50% chance you'll get a space if you apply, however, I would say parking at the nearest park-and-ride (Southern Village, less that 2 miles away) is an acceptable/perhaps better alternative...the bus comes every 5-10 mins in the morning and will drop you off right at your classes...the parking lot would be a walk...so the parking thing is not something you should worry about at all.
