UNC Class of 2018

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey everyone,

Just in case you are feeling a little down about not getting a spot in the Feb 27th interview just yet, I wanted to share this. I interviewed on the 31st at Eshelman and had gotten an invitation to the interview literally 8 days beforehand (01/23). I am currently an undergrad at UNC, however, but I don't know how much of a difference that would make. Please keep hope alive 🙂 it's not over until it's over!

Finally! Just got my interview invitation for Feb 27th!!! :highfive:

Anyone who has interviewed please share how did you practice for MMI? I am very bad at MMI..
Thank you!

I had my interview, but I haven't had acceptance yet. I really think they just want to see how well you are at being prepared for the unprepared, if that makes any sense. It is by no means difficult, at least for me it wasn't. To further explain, it was simple questions, scenarios, and activities that test you on how well you can communicate with others, how you exceed in critical thinking (focusing on priorities and how you choose them), and mostly testing important aspects that pharmacist should have. I would say that you do not need to prepare just be confident, know yourself and why you want to be a pharmacist. The reason why they probably don't want you to be prepared is to be able to see your uniqueness, rather than your practiced typical answers. Overall, I loved the MMI interview I only wish each segment was a bit longer, I love talking to people and have them get to know me.

Thank you for this information.
I hope they won't ask any pharmacy-related technical terms then require us to give opinion about it. Because I don't know the term, I can't answer the question. That's what I worry about..

But good luck for the next few days 🙂 I hope they send out your result soon.

You will not get any pharmacy related questions, they are not knowledge based they are more ethical questions for the scenarios. So don't worry about not knowing your pharmacy terms. You will do well as long as you don't over think or get very nervous, there is no reason to think you answered wrongly, they just want to get to see your logic/reasoning. Good luck!!

Hey everyone. I just an email which told me "You have received this email because you have been conditionally accepted by one or more of the schools participating in the AACP-facilitated program for performing criminal background checks on conditionally accepted applicants" from Certphi.com

UNC is the only school I've had an interview with and that was on the 31st. Anyone else from that date get an email?

I got this email after I got my acceptance email. I think all schools require a background check but wait until you're accepted to do it

I got this email yesterday night as well. I had four interviews total (UNC, Campbell, UGA, UTenn) so it could possibly be UNC since I was there on the 31st, but I'm trying to not get ahead of myself just yet. I'll wait for confirmation in the mail soon enough I suppose.

I was hoping that they would get back to us earlier. But tomorrow is the end of the 2 week period which they told the people who interviewed on Jan 31st. It feels like forever:arghh:

The school has been closed for a few days now (3 with today) because of the ice storm. At least I'm telling myself that's why I haven't heard back, otherwise I'll just stress myself out and I keep checking my email. But you are not alone.

I'm UNC undergrad, and we closed at 1pm on Wed. Thursday everything are closed too, and probably Friday. The weather here at Chapel Hill is really bad...

For those who interviewed already, how many people were there? The interview from 8am-4pm, so perhaps not many?

UNC's closed again tomorrow, we're never gonna find out. 😢
There were actually a lot of people at the interview.

Oh never mind 🙂 So they only have three interview sessions total? Dec, Jan, and Feb?

There were 84 people in January. I remember 12 groups of 7 each. Given that they interviewed 294 people last year (according the Quick facts sheet we were given) for both campuses I'd guess that they'd only have 3 interview dates at Chapel Hill assuming they did 84 people each time that would give us 252 interviews at Chapel Hill and 42 at Asheville.

It is possible that we might get an email in the next couple days regarding Jan 31 interviews but given the fact that UNC offices are closed through Friday I'd say we are looking at slightly longer than 2 weeks to hear back.

Did you happen to get it around 9:15 PM?

Yeah, I got the email at 9:16pm. I just find it weird that this background check thing was sent out before any other acceptance confirmation from any school I interviewed at.

Well since UNC is the only school we have in common I'd conclude UNC informed the service that we both got in. Or at least that's what I hope.

I was accepted to the Asheville campus a week after the interview, but there were only 14 of us, so easier to narrow down. They were probably still making decisions at Chapel Hill, so they were probably waiting to send out the acceptance emails. I got that email at the same time though, so I would guess you got in. Congrats!

I just got the acceptance email so heck yess! Also congrats to everyone else that got in!

Congrats!!

I received an email few minutes ago saying that they didn't make a decision on my application. They said they will make a final decision before March 15.

Congrats to those that got in!
I just got the same email. I can't lie, I'm a little disappointed.

Yep, me too. To be honest I didn't feel that comfortable with the MMI and I think I did really horrible on the interview. Guess we'll just have to wait!

Yep. I'm almost disappointed they ruined the surprise with the background check but I'm so stoked to go back to UNC. Congrats to all who got in today!

Congrats! Can you please share how did you prepare for the interview? Thank you.

I honestly had no idea how my interview when I was reflecting on it. I know I prepared by finding example MMI questions that are asked. There weren't really any pharmacy-specific ones online, so I had to deal with using med school MMI questions as practice. Honestly though, since a lot of the questions are to see how you would react in in the workforce you just have to be honest with what you would do. Make sure to consider alternative options when talking about your decision and why you would choose one over the other. So I think it comes down to knowing who you are and what you would do in somewhat morally ambigious situations. I'm guessing having had 3 previous interviews also helped, although none of them were MMIs.

For those who are interviewing at UNC in March, give you guys a heads up for how to prep for your MMI:

I got accepted into Asheville campus and these are the things I used to prep for:
(there is part 3 and 4, part 1 and 2 is a demo on how NOT to do your MMI, so don't bother doing those videos)

This is how I think about the MMI and how I counter act anything that pops up that would be out of my prediction: The point of MMI is to demonstrate how well you react in a harsh, urgent situations. Your ability to diagnostic both side of the argument, and then come up with a decision that is ethically and morally sound. Be prepared to discuss all possible outcomes, as well as be open minded on other perspective. They Will challenge you with questions, you have to keep a open mind on these and discuss how they might affect your decision. But in the end, once your decision on the topic is made, stand by it, defend it and make the best out of your argument.

Dealing with ethical questions: (when you are reading in your 2 mins)
-come up with a solution/ decision
-discuss the negative side
-discuss the positive side
-discuss possible counter argument that might challenge your decision
-be very creative, but don't question your critical thinking

I can't give you guys the specific questions they gave, feel free to ask any questions. For those of you interviewing in March 15, be prepared, get some good rest. and I will see yall in orientation

Cheers mates

Thank you for posting this!! I went to the Dec interview (still haven't gotten in) and was trying to compute my odds based on how many they were interviewing at each session. If I remember correctly, there were 63 at my session - 9 groups of 7 each... Fingers crossed!! :xf::boom::xf:

So who am I going to meeting in Chapel Hill on Thursday? Where are people staying? Are you nervous?

After mulling over many things, I decided to decline my interview invitation. I'd thought I post because I'm still feeling a little sad since I have only dreamt of attending UNC. On the flip side, that opened up a slot for some other amazing person and I am still shocked that UNC even considered me as an out-of state applicant. Best of luck to everyone on their interviews tomorrow!

I will catch a bus to go there 🙂 I live off-campus and near the school. Are you out-of-state? And yesh I'm very nervous lol. And you?

Wow it must be hard for you to decide that. What is your first choice if I may ask?

Yes I am coming from Wisconsin! UNC is my top choice! I don't feel prepared at all but right now I am stuck at the Detroit Airport lol

I hope you can get here safe and sound buddy 🙂 I wonder if how many seats are left. They interviewed a lots for the past two interviews, so competition will be tougher this time..

Can't wait to meet y'all tomorrow! I'll be the scrawny kid in the blue/white tie. Can't miss me. Or my awkwardness.

It was ok, I am trying to tell myself I didnt like the school so that if I dont get in Im not sad, but lets be honest, I know thats not true. I wish we had more time in the MMI's lol

Yeah i think we are all feel the same. There are some stations that deff need more time for us to carefully think over. Overall, I like the MMI format than the traditional interview!

I know we aren't gonna hear till next week, but when I received an email from Mimi I started freaking out! And then saw it was a survey lol

Yeah we had the same after the January interviews. Definitely put me on edge. There is always the potential that you'll know early like I did because you get a background check request from an anonymous pharmacy school. Of course that can only happen if UNC is the first school you get into.

Or your second 😉 damn I can't wait to hear back. I loved everything about the school.
