UNC expanding new intern class

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey, quick question UNC residents -

How does having a new chair affect your program? Did you all interact much with Tintinalli when she was chair? (We didn't interview with the new chair or see the big T when we interviewed)

Thanks!

oh yeah, another question:

website says: A stipend of $1500 (for entire 3 years) to use for books, conferences, and other approved educational uses

is that 1500 each year, or a total of 1500 ...for entire 3 yrs?

A new chair doesn't affect you so much,

I think this is true at most programs where you don't interact much with the chair, but at some places the chair does interact signifigantly with the residents . . . and I supose then it would matter.

yeah, i didn't think the chair mattered much, but my very last interview I met an AMAZING chair - routinely gave lectures to med students during their morning didactics, and the residents said he'd give many lectures during weekly conference...

when I looked back on it...I at least saw the chair at each interview...and have been told a weak chair can mean a weak dept. when it comes to advocating for your specialty at your institution. just some food for thought...

During this interview season our chairs were in the process of swapping out, and Cairns has been getting settled in/starting his thing.

I don't think not seeing him active in the interview process is a negative thing, given that flux.

He is the main factor that caused us to get the additional intern for the 08 class, so he is very strong and dedicated to the program.

Dr T is still around, still on the floor seeing patients, and actually is more of a presence in conferences over the last few weeks. Cairns is a regular attendee of our conferences as well.

Stipend is for the whole 3 years. I really haven't touched much of it yet...
