Yeah, I was in the 11/14th 2-5 interview session as well. The rain put a big damper on the day, but the whole thing was pretty painless! Of what I could see of the campus, it seemed really cute. All the students and faculty were very nice.

And yes, I remember Dr. Cox saying earlier we could hear is late Decemeber/early January and the latest we could hear is March 1.

Based on last year, I remember the earlier was near the end of January/beginning of February; the latest was well past March.

By the way....I am currently a first year at ECSU. There are definitely benefits as well as disadvantages of being at ECSU. If anyone has any questions about the ECSU program, just send me a private message and I'll be glad to answer any questions.

Just got my interview invite to UNC 🙂 I have an exam on Dec 16, so I'm hoping they have chosen some Jan. dates already.

So excited b/c its my top choice!!! Yipppeeeee!!!!!

I got my acceptance email letter to UNC today 🙂

I just got into UNC YAY!!!!!!
CONGRATS! I am very happy for you! I remember you where posting that you took the PCAT twice and was worried about not getting into UNC. I am glad it worked out for you! So are you going to Mercer or UNC? The only thing about UNC is its lack of PharmD and MBA degree! 🙁
Did you get into UNC with a 75 on the PCAT (my apologizes if I miss quoted...)
May I ask what your GPA is? what are some of the things that you did to make yourself stand out???

thanks so much and congrats to everyone that got into UNC!! great job! 👍

Ive just found out Ive been accepted into the program, although I am very excited..I am coming from out of state and with the out of state tuition cost before me, I need all the pros and cons of attending this program that you can give me. Please help! thanksss

You should go to the CHEAPEST school. No debt is worth more than anything else in my book.

For me, I would weigh it by how competent the program of the school is compared to the cost of tuition. I heard that UNC has a really awesome program. I'm not sure what your backup pharmacy school is but I would personally choose UNC if I were you. You should do some research to help figure out your dilemma. Good luck and congratulations on being accepted~🙂

UNC is highly ranked amongst other pharmacy programs, plus you have access to the other great health professions at you finger tips while you are there. The med school, dental school, and nursing school are all right across the street.

Check out there ranking here:

Congrats to you who are accepted! My interview is on December 16th, and is my first interview with pharm schools! Wishing for the best.

May I ask those who have been there - how are the public transportation systems doing? Are the buses reliable? I am not driving and am looking for ways to go from the airport to the campus. Could you please give some suggestions? Thanks!

I got accepted too today!!! YEAH!!

You can take TTA 747, at RTP transfer to TTA 413. You can find more info here.

Or taxi is around ~$40.

If you are going to pay for $40 for a taxi from the airport to UNC and $40 back, not including transportation from your hotel to the campus, you might be better off renting a car.

If you have not looked into a hotel yet, the Carolina Inn is very close to the pharmacy school, walking distance. It is expensive, but it is close to Franklin St. if you want to sight see and close to the school if you want to walk to your interview.

Thank you a lot for the info regarding the transportation! 🙂

Do you recommend arriving the day before? Is sight-seeing before the interview important (so that small talks may take place)? I was planning to fly in from Boston early that morning (arriving at around 9:30 am), walk around downtown, grab lunch, and go to the interview. Then I'll fly back to Boston the same night (there is a flight departing at 6:55 pm to Boston). Does it sound like a good plan?

And some questions regarding the interview itself:
How long did the interview take you? Was there any writing assessment? What format was the interview? Who did you talk to? Did you have plenty of chance to ask questions?

Thanks!!

Congratulations on getting an interview at UNC! To answer your questions, it is always a wise idea to arrive the day before. Any delays or flight cancellations are totally out of your control, so its better to be safe than sorry. It's probably not necessary to sight see, and I don't think there is that much time during the interview for small talk.
I am currently in the first year class, but I remembered the interview was very low key and it was a blind interview, meaning they didn't look at your files. They asked questions such as why pharmacy school, etc. It was in a room with two interviewers, a clinician and a faculty member. The entire interview lasted 15 minutes. It was more of a friendly interview rather than an interogative one. You do have time to ask questions at the end. I don't think you need to try too hard to impress them with asking inciteful questions, but you should definitely ask questions if you really do have one. Basically, UNC is the #2 school in the country with one of the cheapest tuition for instate students, so they have a good idea why you are applying there. I hope this helps!

I am probably leaning towards UNC, it has a better reputation and I loved the campus. As for MBA, that isn't all that important to me, I would much rather have a MPH. I got into UNC with a 78 as for my GPA it is over a 3.8 and I had over 170 credits. As for what made me stand out, i guess it was the whole package because my PCAT was below the average of 86. I had about 3 years of life and work experience that i drew upon. But i guess I must have done really well on my interview.

You have two excellant choices in UNC and Mercer. Take time to make your decision.🙂

I know and I am so thankful, dare I say it blessed. But I think the decision is made for me at least. I am just so happy and so lucky.

Good job you deserve it! 👍 I personally would go to the cheapest school....I know UNC is cheaper than Mercer for me b/c I am in state, but I am not sure about out of staters...I have a 3.84 overall, 3.82 BCP, and 3.85 science gpa...with 122 credits/BA in chem...I HOPE I get in...I am taking the PCAT on Jan.

3 years of life and work experisence? was it as a pharmacy tech?? I am a pharm tech at walgreens right now...I hope that HELPS...Did you do a lot of research in undergrad? what was your major? how old are you? if you don't mind me asking...hehe...

I am sure that the pharmacy tech at walgreens is good, I actually did research for a drug company and i worked at a variety of jobs (in the education field at a university) and just did a whole bunch of things in those three years that I didn't write about on my application. IE moving out on my own that kind of stuff, and i brough that up in my interview. I am sure you will be fine, good luck

So I, too, received an email of congratulations from UNC today. Pretty excited, because I honestly did not expect a reply so soon.

As mentioned before, if anyone has advice on why an out of state student like myself (who has also been accepted to my state's best program at the University of TN @ Memphis) should choose UNC.

I loved what I saw of the campus, but I'm nervous about such a decision. I would appreciate anyone's opinions sincerely 🙂

To the out of staters:

You can gain residency after about a year or a year and a half. UNC's a really good deal even if you're from the outside.

never mind for me, too!

cemented, UNC loves industry pharmacy experience. That really, really helped you. 35% of their graduates either do residency or fellowship after graduation.

Also, don't let the lack of an MBA program over there discourage you. I once went to a meeting session of alumni and one guy worked in retail pharmacy for several years, and had a 2.8 GPA (his GPA from the professional years of pharmacy school at UNC) and joked that he was "Back Rho Chi", but still made it into the UNC MBA program a few years later. And he was some type of manager now at GSK.

I am personally finishing a PhD in statistics (with emphasis in biostatistics). So I really think you should choose UNC.

You are from South Florida? Where? I am originally from West Palm Beach.

I know Mercer is a good school too, but of course the tuition is very expensive. What is the difference between out-of-state at UNC and Mercer's private tuition.

I would lean more toward UNC if I were you, but again, I am very familiar with UNC, UF, Nova, PBA. But not so much with the other pharm schools out there.

Your only weak area was the PCAT, and the other components of your application were so strong that they could not deny you. Remember you had a high GPA with many credits going for you and unusual experience in the pharmaceutical industry which most people would not have. You stood out, regardless of your PCAT being a little under.

Good luck!!

Thank you for your kind words, I am probably going to UNC because I kind of want a change of location. Plus UNC blew my away. To be honest, when I got the e-mail from UNC, i was in complete shock because I was somewhat the underdog due to my PCAT. But i guess i rocked the interview. I am going to a public ivy league and im so happy. As for the MBA, i don't want one, never have, but an MPH would be great and UNC has one that I really think would be awesome, so we shall see if i can take classes in the public health school. I was sweating there for a while because I retook my pcat and by that point I had gotten into Mercer and I was pretty much ready to go. So i totally blew it off, and then UNC called. When i got my results back I thought UNC would reject me but they didn't so it worked out well. I am actually from South Florida, and I am ready to leave!!!
I doubt i will get a call to interview at UF because of my pcat but the only and I mean only think UF has in its favor is the tution difference, which is about 17,000 dollars. Mercer vs UNC is about 7,000. But UNC may reduce my tution after the first year, a couple of the students told me so. We shall see, but im pretty much leaning tar heel inspite of my family being die hard UK fans, Basketball games are off times for discussion. UK got beaten bad with there last game with UNC and its a soar spot for my fam. Anyway thanks for your kind words
Congrats on the PHD and where are you based currently? UF UNC ?

Congrats Antimony on the interview.🙂 I know that you said that it was not your number 1 choice, but I hope that you give it a chance.

hey I have a question about the enrollment deposit waiver option. Can anyone explain it to me. Am i correct to say it means we dont have to send the 200 dollar deposit right away but still save our spot for the Fall? please respond thanks!

I received an email acceptance today. Good luck everyone and Happy New Year! 🙂

I just received an email notifying me of their acceptance! WOO HOO!

I received an acceptance e-mail today, too! :soexcited:

Hi everyone,

Congrats on being accepted! I have received questions about what's next. Well, you will receive the package from the school that has a lot of useful information and I would strongly recommend you read through the package carefully.

good luck everyone 🙂

Last year, we have to send in our deposit to save the spot. The package will have the time in which you have to submit your decision. 🙂 good luck!

Has anyone who got their acceptance email in late December received their package in the mail yet? The email they sent me on Dec 30th, 2008 says that it takes 5-7 business days to arrive, but I still haven't received anything. Can't wait to check the mail every day!!

I just got mine today. The letter was dated Jan 5 and it was postmarked Jan 7, so you should be getting it soon!

Anyone else interviewing this Friday in the early group?

Anyone receive an interview invite from UNC lately? This is the only school I have yet to hear from and was just wondering if they sent out a new batch of invites lately.

same here...hailin all the way from cali

For those of you who interviewed at UNC, signed and returned the forms in the packet at the end of the interview: Do you remember whether they had us sign and return the "Student Placement in Pharmacy Pracitce Sites" Form? I just found an unsigned copy of the form in my packet today and am worried because I am supposed to return all the forms by last Friday. I have the impression that I signed and return 3 forms at the end of the interview. If two of the forms were the criminal background check forms, the third one must be the "Student Placement in Pharmacy Pracitce Sites" Form, right?

I recall signing and turning in 3 forms, but I'm not 100% certain. I would call UNC and ask them what you should do. They can probably look up whether you turned in the form or not, and if you haven't they may tell you to mail it in now. I wouldn't worry too much... I don't think that form will affect your admission status!

Thanks! I will call tomorrow and check with them. I am not 100% sure either because I was signing and returning the forms in their office in a hurry so that I could catch my flight!

And for people who are interviewing later this week, good luck :luck:

Still haven't heard from UNC so i'm crossing my fingers. I'm scared that they already rejected me and my incompetent mail person mis-delivered the letter and i'll never know!

I actually forgot to sign that exact same form. It was the last page in a stapled bunch. I simply received an email from one of the staff sending me another copy of it, saying that he received my acceptance packet forms, and to mail a copy to the school when I could. I sent it with my immunization forms that I would have had to send anyways.

Just call and let them know you'll mail it in ASAP. Good luck, hope this helped.

Thank you! I called the Office of Student Service yesterday morning. The person was very considerate. He explained that there is actually a big pile of enrollment packets that are yet to be processed; thus it is ok to send the form in now to join their queue of documents. He also said he would leave a note in my file explaining that the missing Form is on its way. 🙂

Thanks for bringing up the immunization records that we need to send them. I'll make sure that I'm sending them way earlier than the deadline!
