I'm still waiting for one of those great underdog success stories to happen to me. I can't believe what i nightmare this whole process has been. At my one and only interview my second interviewer refused to answer my questions because he thought that because of my mcat score, i was unable to handle the rigor of their program. *sigh* and that i should have even been asking questions of him regarding their special research activities. He didn't even look at anything other than me mcat, he had it written down with my name on a piece of paper. anyway. here's my story so far...

GPA overall : 3.9
GAP science: 3.9
1 yr. volunteer at childrens hospital, 4 years biochem research (presentations and independent research), chemistry and biochem tutor 4 years, home care volunteer for elderly woman, published fiction writer
MCAT: 28S <--- booooo hissssss

so my mcat is obviously making me an underdog, although plenty of people seem to be doing well , much better than me, with less, so i don't know what up. sad 🙁

I had 1 interview (above) and all rejections, otherwise, and i applied to a TON of schools, many of them lower tier and middle tier (i applied to mayo for fun since i worked for them one summer as a research person, but didn't make it past the phone interview, and did develop mass amounts of false hope). only one school left to hear from. need some loving.

Does anyone know what school she goes to now?

bumping the underdog thread!

underdawg here for sure...3.52 GPA, but high MCAT (33P)....good luck to y'all out there. we can do it!

I'm from philly, home of Rocky, so of course I am an underdog! Decent and balanced mcat (32R) offset by a gpa on the low end (3.45 bpcm and 3.38 overall). I'm hoping this is offset by a rocking postbac gpa (3.88) and good and interesting rest of app. Let's go underdogs!

3.51, 32T here. The main problem is being Canadian and a 3.35 BCPM, though, not the cumulative GPA.

Slightly low GPA, above average MCAT... give yourself some credit, I'd hardly consider your stats an underdog.

Even the underdogs aren't underdogs on this *&(&*^ website. SKKKEEEWWEEEDDD perception.

yeah, I know my GPA ain't bad, but my BCPM is pretty damn low (around 3.2)...so I'm hoping that MCAT will pull me through 🙂

Well, given how many people with a 3.9 and a 36 MCAT applying, but seeing that the average for most schools are still around a 3.7 and a 31 is reassuring.

For every one of those high profile kids, there is another underdog also getting into medical school.
