im a freshman this year and am a little confused about the process. I just decided I am probably going to pursue a pharm. d. i am a little behind in math, so I need to take a couple more class before calc....i'm not bad at math, just didn't pay much attention in high school. so where should i begin? and do i complete my bs before going to pharm school and just after i complete the pre-reqs? aslo, since i'm at a university, do i need to take all the gen. ed. classes or just the pre-reqs?

Yo, I'm a freshman too.

Most of the questions you're asking could be easily found through research on these forums or through Google. As far as math goes, I was a little behind too but decided to jump into Calculus anyway. My problems were manipulating algebraic functions and trig stuff. That kinda stuff is easily relearned through online math notes though.

Yeah do some searching around. What classes you need to take is going to depend on the school you apply to so look around at some different schools. There are a lot of common classes. Get experience!

Generally, you need to complete the majority of the prereqs and/or take the PCAT exam before applying. If pharmacy is your desired path, then its better to design your course schedule around the prereqs first. For PharmCAS schools look HERE for general admission requirements. Though there are main similarities between all schools, there are variations that may require you to take "odd" courses like biochemistry, immunology, even world history.

It's still quite possible to get into pharmacy schools after just the prereqs, but the trend is shifting toward people with more coursework as the applicant pool increases every year. You should still apply when you figure to have your prereqs done before matriculation in a desired year.
