Hi, so I'm about to be a sophomore as an undergrad and i did very bad my freshman year. I took Bio 101 and Chem 101 the first semester of my freshman year and got a C and C+ in them. Then second semester i decided to only take Chem 102 and leave Bio 102 for the summer, however i still got a C+ in it. So I ended up with a 2.78 GPA at the end of my freshman year and now i am taking Bio 102 during the summer and it is extremely hard and I'm on the verge of getting another C. This will bring down my GPA again.

I know that i have alot of time to improve but the thing is that i will be taking orgo during my soph year and its extremely difficult at my school. My freshman year (esp. second sem.) i worked my butt off and still couldnt manage to do well and im working my butt of right now for bio and im still not doing as well as i would have liked to. That is why im afraid im going to be adding 2 more C's to my GPA after orgo. Then my science GPA will be horrible and it wont help my overall GPA either.

I'v been wanting to become a dentist for so long now and every semester i see that dream fading away and i need help! What should i do?!?

HopefullDD,

Don't let yourself fall into such a bad state of mind! I went to a very tough private engineering school when I had very poor math skills. My first year was ROUGH! It seemed no matter how hard I tried, my grades didn't budge. The best advice I ever got was to stop looking at it from a "Oh no, if I fail, there goes my future! This **** is so hard" perspective. Don't work hard, work smart. Have the confidence that you CAN learn anything. Orgo is a completely different animal than biology or gen chem. It very well might just "click" for you.

If you're truly having trouble getting out of the C range, take a step back and change your approach. Talk to professors. Ask one of the good students for help. Get a tutor. Check online (seriously, there are some awesome FREE resources online for most courses). There is a method out there for learning this stuff that is right for you. Just don't get discouraged. If getting into dental school were easy, everyone would do it.
