Is it necessary to major in psychology in undergrad if planning on going to med school to become a psychiatrist? How many of you are planning on going into psychiatry with an undergrad major other than psychology (Biology, Chemistry, etc.)?

Major in whatever you want to. Matching into Psychiatry has nothing to do with your undergraduate major.

Nope. And most people change their preferences for specialties in med school anyway.

We don't care what your major or minor is, as long as you do well.

Take a peek at the requirements for graduation: lots of folks I know got away with easier UG loads for being “pre optometry.”

A degree is a degree! I hear they even let NURSING MAJORS go to Med school these days, whoda’ thunk it?
