I am currently a senior attending a college in NY, I will be graduating in the spring semester. As of right now I have 2.8 gpa and a 23 on the MCAT, Would any of the big 3 carribean medical schools accept me? If so is going to the Caribbean a viable option? (I hear about this residency crunch and it worries me). Would doing a post bacc or SMP and then trying for an american MD or DO school be a better option?

In the first gray bar towards the top of this screen, you will see writing towards the left that says "My Account". Hover your cursor over the sixth option to the right of that that says "Search" until it highlights and a line appears under it. Then "left click" your mouse. A screen will appear that allows you to enter terms in a box labeled "Keyword(s)". Put a few terms like "chances" and "grades" and "schools" in that box. Now, before you get ahead of yourself, look over to the right of the same screen and you will see a separate listing that says at the head "Search in Forum(s)". Scroll down until you find the subheader "Caribbean" under the International Forums section. Highlight that. Now, towards the bottom you will see a button that says "Search Now". Scroll your mouse pointer over that and click the left mouse button again. Tell us how many hits you get. If it's less than 500, go back and enter more terms into the "Keyword(s)" section.

Good luck!

Lol skip. Op you can look into the thread label "ross university interview". I just replied back to a guy with low gpa and high mcat... Hope it helps. Try exhausting ur us schools and if u need more resources than ValueMD is one to look at as well.

Do lots of reading on online forums (SDN and ValueMD) before deciding whether or not to apply to the Caribbean. IMO It is a viable option, even with the residency crunch, but it is expensive and it would be an absolute necessity to score high (230+) on the USMLE STEP 1.

Your GPA is low, but you would likely get an acceptance for at least 1 of the big 4 (SGU, Ross, Saba, AUC). In my opinion, SGU is the best bet, but it would be most difficult to get accepted. Consider rewriting MCAT.

Most importantly: research, research, research. Not just the caribbean, but look into all your other options (repeating undergrad, post bacc as you said, etc.). No one will answer your questions for you.
