This may sound like a stupid question but it has been concerning me. Is there a special way to designate on the VMCAS coursework section that the class is just a lab. I have some classes with lectures and labs part of a single course so I know to list them regularly, but if the class was just a lab is there a box I need to click or a special way to say that it is a lab. I just don't know how the VMCAS people will know when they look at my app which classes were classes and which were labs since many schools have requirements for labs in chem/bio etc.

Thanks in advance

I have just been labeling it as the lab itself, for example "General Physics I" listed for 3 credit hours and "General Physics I Lab" listed for 1 credit hour.

Are you doing this for classes that are just designated as 4 credits and include labs or is that the way they are on your transcripts? I was wondering about this because I have the opposite situation of the OP - pretty much all my biology/chem/physics classes had labs but none are separate on my transcript (generally 3 hours lecture/week + 2-4 hour session of lab). Not sure if the fact that it was a liberal arts school means the adcoms will understand the system or if it needs explaining.

could you put in for a 4 hour lecture and a 0 credit lab?

Hmm, that's an idea. I am a little hesitant to do that because my understanding is that what is entered is supposed to be exactly what is on the transcript.

My understanding has always been to put exactly what is listed on your transcript. Schools should know that 4 credit classes generally are 3 credits lecture + 1 credit lab, since that is pretty standard as far as I know. I'm sure adcoms are used to seeing all varieties of course notation systems and will understand what they mean. If your school does unusual things (like units for courses or something), it might be something to consider for an explanation statement.
