Is anyone else on this esteemed list? I just received my letter in the mail yesterday, so I don't really know what the deal is.

I'm going to email monday, write letters, call etc.

I should have applied earlier!

Hey flyfisher,

I feel your pain...I just interviewed at UNECOM on April 1 and my stats are similar...29 and a 3.6 and am kickin myself for not applying sooner. No letter yet for me but am expecting to be on the waitlist right there with ya. Good luck!

Waiting with you guys...

Me too...you guys are talking about the "Accept Space Available" list, right? Or is there another waitlist?

I wondering if this is what we were interviewing for when we interviewed or if some were outright accepted?

When did you all interview? Mine was March 30th. Good luck to all of us! :luck:

I interviewed April 1. I only knew of the accepted space available I hadn't ehard of an alternate list? They made it seem like the adcom was reviewing everyone on the day of my interview all the way back til late january but I could have misunderstood. Did you get a letter yet beach bunny?

Yes, I just got a letter in the mail today that was dated April 5th.

And I was also told the Ad Com was meeting April 1st to discuss all applicants from the end of Jan/begininning of Feb on.

Guys.. don't give up hope yet. Your not out till the end.

I interviewed 3/28, letter is also dated april 5.

At my interview they talked about that space available list... yet my letter says "alternate status"

so who knows?

Guys you're confusing yourself with the admissions jargon,

Accepted Space Available = Alternate List = Waitlist, they all suggest the same thing, which is class is "full" and when a spot available they'll take people from the waitlist/alternate list/accepted space available list.

There is no difference in each.

A lot of people said they're waitlisted when they interviewed but didn't hear back from the school (that is technically not waitlisted). the official waitlist is when they accept you and put you on the waitlist, that's when you would say you're waitliested.

Well hopefully thats the situation, as I'm on 2 waitlists and have no acceptances yet. +pissed+

I just got a letter too...accept space available for me too. Was hopin for better but I guess its so late I should be happy for this much. Did anyone get outright accepted who interviewed late?

anyone??? I'm curious as well....

I interviewed, Feb 25th (Sat) and I got accepted the 27th (Monday). I really don't know what happened, I just be myself talked about my experiences, my view on life, my parents (who are against me going into the medical profession), my master's thesis, my current job at the biopharmaceutical industry in addition to asking lots of questions about the school, the program, and the D.O./Ph.D spots. Also, I talked to the interviewer after the interview for about another hour regarding doing medical research while in med school.

Well, a lot of times, when you granted the interview (especially with open-file where the adcom has already thoroughly reviewed your file and decided that your stats are good for the school). The outcome really is on your interview and not on your stats. maybe you guys wanna share some of your detailed interview events, so maybe we can see a trend here on what factors made them decide to put you guys on the waiting list versus other applicants gets accepted outright into the class of 2010.

OK... so here is my deal.

The Alternate Status is a grade below the space available list. On May 3rd they will be ranking the list and I will get an email letting me know approximately where I stand on the list.

Some years, everyone on alternate status gets in, some years nobody.

Hey Flyfisher--best of luck :luck: to you!!! The wait is agonizing, I know!
Were you given any indication of the possibility if getting in other than what you wrote? I wonder if the # of acceptances they have out now is 120 or if there exists even more people who have to decline acceptance first before they even get to the lists? I was told the same as you about the ranking when the Ad Com meets. Were you offered any advice on how to improve your ranking before then? i.e. letter of intent, additonal LOR's? The reason I ask is I was told to feel free to send stuff.....BUT I was just having a conversation with an alumni who indicated that those things would not help your ranking at this point. 🙁 So I don't know what to believe. I guess sending additional stuff wouldn't hurt.

Again, much luck to you. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Addition LOR might not help, however, a strong letter of intent is definitely good because if two applicants have the same stats and evaluation, one is really trying hard to get into UNECOM where as the other is less enthusiastic, who do you think the adcom will decide which one to pick next? the obvious answer is the enthusiastic one. So.. do send a letter of intent a.s.a.p. and make sure it is not just a mediocre letter that is superficial, it has to be a strong one.

Good call, although I feel like I should only send them a letter of interest considering I'm still waiting to here decisions from a school that I would rather go to.

I'm working on a rousing letter to send them that should help my chances.
